How many people beside me actually research the biographies of the voice actors for every show they watch? Myself, I've gotten kinda obsessive about it. My personal favorite voice actors are Scott McNeil from Gundam Wing and various other cartoons, and Rob Paulson from Pinky and the Brain.

Just a couple, the voice for Batman and the voice for Spike from Cowboy Bebop. It's rather interesting tho when you do research them (I have done others, I am sure, but they sprang from those two root searches) because it's interesting to see what else they have done, epsecially live action work.

...I'm not obsessive (usually) about it...though I do check Voice Chasers and IMDb from time to time if I'm taken with a particular actress, like Alyson Court (Lydia in Beetlejuice, Jubilee from Fox's X-Men series) or E.G. Dailey (Tommy, Rugrats, Buttercup, Power Puff Girls).

I am also a part-time researcher of voice actors. The Internet Movie Database is a very good source to find out information. Some of my favorite VAs:

Kath Soucie (she has such incredible range, and when she voices a beautiful character, Soucie gives the extra push that makes the character that much more attractive)

Maurice LaMarche (a master at impressions; his Orson Welles - as you well know - is unparalled. "The Critic" is an able showcase for his talents)

Tom Kenny (his stand-up background serves him very well in a VA career. Spongebob Squarepants is perhaps his best role)

Petrea Burchard (though, AFAIK, she has only one role - Ryoko on "Tenchi Muyo!" - Burchard infuses it with so much life and emotion)

Not much research. I notice veterans a lot, though--Wendee Lee, for instance, has been doing anime dubs since 1985! She did Vanessa from Robotech, one of the Dirty Pairs, Angel from Big O, Faye from Cowboy Bebop, T.K. from Digimon (season 1), Christina Mackenzie from the upcoming Gundam 0080, and a list that just goes on and on and on. There are some of talented dub voice actors (they're the ones who keep getting a job--the bad ones die out after a few series...), and I'm surprised they don't get more roles in original prime-time animated series.

Funny this topic comes up.

I just finished watching The Hunchback of Notre Dame and couldn't put my finger on who Frollo (?) was. Turns out, after doing an IMDb search that it was Virgil on Mighty Max, Baron Mordu on Spider-Man, and other voices that I reckonized.

I agree with some others, it's fun to see the long list of voice work some people have done, and it's fun seeing that someone you "discover" did voices from childhood programs.

I must just have a good ear, because i can always tell who voices who, if i've heard that voice before. I don't know the actors names, but i can always tell five or six other characters they've voiced.

Frollo was Tony Jay... man, that guy's got a great voice. He's popped up all over the place, even video games. He had a great role in Planescape: Torment, an excellent game that I'd heartily reccomend to anyone with at least a slight tolerance for weirdness.

I enjoy when bigger actors voice animated characters. Michael Dorn voicing Kalibak in S:TAS (and many other shows)was perfect casting. Also, Peri Gilpin (Roz from Frasier) voicing Volcana (also from S:TAS). I guess you could consider Tim Daly and Dana Delaney bigger actors (voicing, of course, Clark/Superman and Lois). Kelsey Grammer and Michael Ironsides also come to mind. I wonder what their motivation for voicing those characters might be? Are they fans of the shows they are lending their voices to? Fans of the genre? That is interesting to me.

Who did Kelsey Grammer voice?

but I don't know what else. As for my favorite voice actors, that'd be Sherri Stoner and E.G Daily, but that's only because they look good in real life.

Yeah, I know he did Sideshow Bob. But I had the impression Kal-el was saying he had done a voice on BTAS or STAS. I remember reading that he was hot to do a voice on one of the TAS shows, but that they had never found the right role for him. So I was wondering if they had, eventually.

I get freaked out every time I recognize actors from other shows on current shows I happen to be watching at the time. For example, I was watching Zoids today on CN, and recognized Quatre and Wufei from Gundam Wing, Hitomi from Escaflowne, and Kai from Mobile Suit Gundam. By the way, did you ever notice that all the people from Gundam Wing seem to work on all the same shows together.

Sorry about the ambiguity Maxie. I was referring to Sideshow Bob in my mention of Kelsey Grammer. I did hear he was pursued to voice other characters, but nothing really panned out.

I do as well (But then, if you do ADR for a movie, it's eventual that you'll do an animated film).

Here's a short list of celebs that I'd like to hear in an animated film:

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Robert DeNiro

Geoffrey Rush

Oh, OK. But I remember them describing JL's Ultrahumanite as kind of a Kelsey Grammer type, and part of me was hoping they actually got him to do it. Oh well.

I've been following the careers of Jason Marsden and Tara Strong for a while now.

I always get a kick out of the shows that have fun with their casting. Gargoyles, for instance, had about half the cast of Star Trek: TNG. And heaven only knows how Robert Goulet wound up on Recess, but his rendition of Green Tambourine in the movie was downright fantastic.

I thought of another actor/entertainer that has done quite a bit of voicing. Kasey Kasem (sp?) has done quite a bit. Scooby-doo and Transformers are two the the shows he has done. I know he's done others, but I can't remember them right now. He's got a great voice for animated characters.

Didn't Kasey Kasem also do the voice of Robin in 'Superfriends'?

Once in a blue moon I might look at voice chasers. I like Christain Canavah(sp? who voices Dexter.

Is the voice of Spike Spangiel also Gene Starwind? He could even be the life guard in the Adult Swim commercials, but I don't know.

Is the narriator of Toonheads also the voice of Sera Bellium from Powerpuff Girls? I think her name is Jenifer Martain.

I've also noticed the Gargoyles/Star Trek connection (like Lachesis), but has anyone noticed the that these two shows have shared a lot of their talent with Batman/Superman Adventures? For example, Kate Mulgrew starred as Captain Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager and provided the voices for both Titania (on Gargoyles) and Red Claw (on Batman: TAS). I won't list them all, but there is a lot of shared talent here.

Since I've never seened Cowboy Bebop, but have only heard of it, I think Spike played the main guy on Big O. I've seen Big O, and I read some stuff about him being in Cowboy Bebop on the internet movie database.

That's because they all work for Ocean, a Canadian VA company. They dub alot of anime. Most recently, they dub DragonBall Z for the UK and Canada. Here's a list of some of their Gundam Wing- DragonBall Z roles:

Scott McNeil- Duo Maxwell/Piccolo

Kirby Morrow- Trowa Barton/Son Goku

Brad Swaille- Quatre Raberba Winner/ Teen Son Gohan

Brian Drummond- Zechs Merquise/ Vegeta

Don't know his name- Chang Wufei/ Android #17

I have no idea of the complete list, but I do know that actors from all four Star Trek series (at the time there was no Enterprise) contributed to the show. Not that I can name them for the life of me...

I'll get to work on it...I've been taping Gargoyles off of Toon Disney.
