So... I remember from shortly after the Reign of the Supermen storyline that it came out that Superboy was not a perfect clone of Superman, because they could not perfectly clone the Kryptonian DNA... some of his DNA is Superman's and some came from someone else. For a long time it was a mystery as to who the other source was.

Well, recent Superboy comics, and the Superman/Batman series, have revealed that Lex Luthor was the other source.

But... I thought that they had already said it was someone else... and, as I was perusing the Superman Homepage, I see that it says the other donor was CADMUS director Paul Westfield. I do seem to recall that it was Westfield, and that they figured that out a long time ago. Anyone reading the books lately who can explain what happened to that? Why is it now Luthor instead of Westfield?

Luthor being the donor doesn't make a lot of sense, given the timeframe... This was when Lex Luthor Jr. (Lex's "son," really his brain in a clone body) was around... he had nothing to do with the creation of Superboy... but CADMUS did... so Westfield makes a lot more sense.

Is the new superboy the same one as the kid who used to wear the leather coat and sunglasses or is this one new? If so, what happened to the old kid? Damn DCU continuity, if there is such a thing.

I am fairly certain they are one and the same. If not, it's news to me.

However it's not a huge continuity error, isn't it easy to believe that Superman and Superboy were just mistaken some how, or lied to?

The recent TT issues suggest superboy is half lex. Interesting plot twist, to say the least

IIRC, it was shown that Lex emailed Robin with information that Superboy is 50% Superman, 50% Luthor. They haven't followed up on this since around #6 of TT and Superboy and Robin only made guest appearances in Superman/Batman #7, in which Superboy was considering about telling Superman what he found out but eventully backed out. Given the source of this new information, its quite possible just another scheme to ruin one of Superman's allies.

I hope that since Superboy is now 50% Luthor that they start having him use his head; I'm sick of him being portrayed as the dumb jock. Also, wouldn't the power of Superman and the genius of Luthor be a tremendous asset? If anything, Superboy has a tremendous advantage over the Man of Steel now. He just needs to get over the "Luthor = evil" part.
