ADV has opened up their Megazone 23 (said as two-three) site here http://www.advfilms.com/titles/megazone/. For those who don't know this anime was one of the main inspirations for the Matrix films. It also accounted for most of the footage in the difficult to find Robotech Movie: The Untold Story. For those wondering this is a complete re-dub of the original Streamline Pictures dub that's currently out of print. ADV also plans to release Megazone 23 parts 2 and 3 as well.

Ah Megazone 23. One of the single most ripped-off animes of all time. This is a new dub right, because Streamline never got past the first episode.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call the first OVA the first episode. As it's very different than the other parts, is feature-length, and was not released along with parts 2 and 3. which were released years later after the sucess of part 1. But yeah Steamline Pictures only got around to dubbing part 1, although they did sub part 2.

It's funny.. I was just thinking about Megazone the other day. This is a title I'd love to add to my collection. What a piece of history, being that it was the first Anime I ever saw in it's original form ( a horible quality tape that was common in the old days ). This was back in '88, so I've been waiting a long time for a decent release of MZ23. It's nice to know that the classics are not being forgoten during this current golden age of Anime in the US.

Not that I know for sure ( because my knowledge of this is limited ) but isn't the Megazone 23 DVD out now just a bad dub with no Japanese language track ?

Funny. I remember seeing the first one, but I don't remember whether or not I saw the rest. Was it that long ago? I don't even remember that.... :D

The upcoming release is getting a new dub.Hooray! That would make this the third time. Once as Robotech: The Movie. Twice as the old Streamline dub. Thrice with this release. Hope third time is the chram.

Awesome!!!!! One of my favorite animes ever! Total classic. Both parts 1 and 2 are simply fantastic, albeit rather different from each other. As for Part 3 I've only seen the first half, but I found it dull compared to the other parts. Not much action going on.

Finally I can replace my beat up VHS copies. No cheesy dubs please, subtitles will do just fine.

Has anyone seen Robotech the movie? I can't imagine how they twisted the script to make it relate to the Robotech universe.

I have a PAL edition of Robotech the Movie from a European country (they never released it in the US on any video format and the theatrical run was exclusive to Texas and lasted possibly a month.) that I've since transferred to NTSC. Although it's in incredibly beat up quality. It's not really Harmony Gold or Carl Macek's fault either they had to piece together a movie incredibly quickly with no time to produce new animation and were demanded by their distributor to make the film to their standards. You can find out a lot more about it here. http://www.robotechcompanion.com/section3.html Now that ADV owns the rights to the Megazone footage they can legally release Robotech the Movie and I've heard that an ADV representative said when questioned about it that he had a copy of it placed on his desk as a possibility for release. Which possibly will use the remastered southern cross footage.

EDIT: Cover's been released. Looks snazzy compared to the Image box.

Well I knew that it wouldn't look perfect but it still looks much worse than some of my other PAL transfers, and I can tell the copy I watched was used quite a bit.

Yeah that does look a lot better than the image case. They have done some awful Streamline re-releases in the past. Their Babel II DVD had a Japanese language track but no subtitles or even dubtitles. ADV is really treating this like a classic, 5.1 dub, voice director commentary, and a mousepad.

They did say they were influenced by anime. Many fans just assumed it was Ghost in the Shell.
