View Full Version : Why Is Everyone So Obsessed With Bringing in Kyle???

The current JL line-up is practically perfect. Bringing in Kyle would either throw off the intra-group dynamics, or make duplicate GL's, neither of which is desireable. As long as they make proper obeisances to the God of Continuity ( taking Kyle off to Oa ), there is absolutely NO reason to bring Kyle onto the JL.

Forget Kyle, BRING IN PLASTIC MAN!

i heard other green lanterns would appear in the gl ep, so i think kyle should appear and the should clear up any qs from "in brightest day". it would be a simple clear up too, no need to mess up the continuity set up in stas. all theyd have to say is kyle is on duty somewhere else or something. that should do it.

I don't see it as nessecary to bring in Kyle. Remember, he's just starting as GL in S:TAS. John Stewart's got tons of experience from what I've gathered, so he's more qualified for the job. Nuff said...

Kyle's on duty somewhere else? I personally think that makes no sense. I couldn't see him (animated or in the comics) ever leaving Earth.

Anyway, I wanted to see Kyle in the show 'cause I love the way he and Wally play off each other. But I'm a John Stewart fan, and I think his personality's a cool addition to the JL lineup.

I don't think that we want Kyle Rayner to join the team (two Green Lantern's would screw it up), but we do want the In Brightest Day episode to mean something. Ignoring it is stupid, especially if Superman runs into Sinestro at some point in the new series. Just acknowledging that the episode happened would be enough for me.

I much prefer John Stewart both character wise and idealogically.

Though I like Kyle, theres a definate need for a black superhero who's one of the big guns and not just anothe one of these characters who wear their ethnicity on their sleeve or are sterotypes, or carbon copies of established hero's only they are the black version or whatever.

another problem has always been that the really cool powers and gimmicks have been taken by white guys. So now not only is there a black hero on the team, but he's *GREEN LANTERN*. He's also a character who's from the comics and not just something made up to fill a politically correct void.

John Stewart is a character with alot of wasted potential that we'll finally see being used in the upcoming show.

As for Kyle...you know the entire "Paralax" thing might actually make 50 times more sense with him than it did for Hal. He'd be a kid corrupted by the power to realize his own imagination.

In responce to the last post, as well as the topic itself, I have this to say. I know little or nothing about "Paralax", except that they tried to turn people into trees or something (Batman/Superman Magazine, issue #8).

As for why people seem to want to see Kyle awknowledged in JL, or even brought in later, is for several reasons. Firstly, most of us are used to Kyle (which may be the perfect reason why the JL team decided against using him). We, the current generation, are familiar with him (though GL fans probably know every GL by heart) and would like to see him in animated form again. Or, at the very least, have his existance not simply ignored, but explained. Frankly, I think they could tackle that issue on JL two or three seasons from now, if and when they wish to bring him on as the JL GL. I, personally, hate big, obvious, gaping plot holes. It makes the writer seem very lazy, to me, to simply ignore something rather than try to fix it. I don't think claiming that Kyle was off in another universe is the way to solve this, if they ever do, but instead to have had him betray (or seemingly betray!:) the Corps and have to end his hero-training days. That way, John Steward could, perhaps, later train him and help him solve the whole misunderstanding (or criminal plot) that caused him to loose the right to be a Green Lantern.

All in all, never having been a GL fan, I am most familiar with Kyle as Green Latern because I saw him numerous times in Adventures in the DC Universe, in Superman (Remeber the Death of Superman storyline?) and on comic racks everywhere. It's not that I, personally, have anything against them using another Green Lantern, but having been exposed to the Adventures in the DC Universe Justice League lineup, they have become the "classic" line-up to me, and I, like others, hope to see them on the show someday.

What about Steel (John Henry Irons), he is black, although his powers are more like Batman's, given to him by his costume and gadgets.

I wish those of us homesick for Kyle could take Terry's POV, but not being as much of an avid comic reader as he, I still have to whine about how I miss Kyle. Although I believe it was officially stated that Superman's "IN BRIGHTEST DAY" although an awesome episode, will be completely ignored.

Not having much knowledge on the characters as a whole, I'll try to be as generic and logical as I can. Let's see what we've got.

Batman - serious
Manhunter - serious
John GL - serious
Flash - funny
Superman - corny...but mostly serious
Wonderwoman- serious, but not as much as the others mentioned
Hawkgirl - I have no idea

From the little I know, it seems like the more moody or serious people are higher in numbers. I like a more even distribution of wise-guy and more serious characters so pairing opposites isn't that difficult a task. But from what I've been hearing about John it looks like I could be in for quite a nice suprise.

The creators hate Steel. They were worried for a while that the Steel movie would do really, really well, and that they'd have to do an animated series. When it didn't, Paul Dini's quote on the matter was "Glad we dodged that bullet."

So no Steel.

I hated Steel too. The creators did the best with what they had, but he still sucked.

Not only that, but his first appearance as Steel--Heavy Metal--almost ruined Metallo for me. He had a perfect ending in Action Figures, but then they magically brought him back with the exact same "wrecked skin" look and had him making bad ethnic jokes (for example, he called Steel "Superfly").

If they kept him simply as John Henry Irons they might have had something, but no...

See I think John Henry works 50 times better as Supermans science guy than he does as a superhero.

If it'd been me, I would've basically had John Henry is the Prof Hamilton role.

That would be pretty cool, actually. Having a (now former, let's make him former) superhero as the JL's tech support. Yeah, I know they have Batman, but John Henry would have more commitment to it.
And I love Steel. I think his animated design is weak, though.

Getting back to Kyle...there's one thing I hate about the animated creators, and that's lack of continuity. First Batman Beyond's just a POSSIBLE future, and now past episodes are just shooting down the hole 'cause it's convenient. That's just lame.

As for what Nightwing said, yeah, there are a lotta serious people but in many different ways. Superman's the golden boy (okay, man now, you know what I mean), and the most well-received by the public. Batman's a reclusive vigilante who will do anything for his quest for justice, as long as there's no public spotlight. J'onn's a scientist from another planet, still trying to adopt to Earth ways, a lot like Batman but he will go into the spotlight. Hawkgirl's fairly easy-going, but get's serious when it comes to work. Green Lantern's a seasoned veteran who sees himself well above everyone else (he and Flash are gonna play off each other so well, plus they're both so arrogant). Wonder Woman's from an all-girl's island, never had any contact with man, and is now thrown into the "man's world" and told to bring peace and justice.
As for Flash...wild card, man. He knows how to get the job done, but has more fun than anyone else while he's doing it. Superman has learned that he's a good guy (as long as they don't forget about "Speed Demons"), and I think J'onn and Hawkgirl will probably get along with him pretty well. It's Wonder Woman, GL, and ESPECIALLY Batman who are gonna receive him differently.
