I got a call at about 5:30 from my roommate. From the hospital.
She and three others were driving out to Wal-Mart, when the guy (we'll call him Alex) driving unintentionally cut off another vehicle. The guy honks his horn, passes them, and flips Alex the bird. No big deal, right? Five minutes later, Alex's car, a convertible with the top down, is stopped at a redlight when a car coming the opposite way pulls an illegal u-turn over the median and stops beside Alex. It's the guy from earlier, who puts his car in park, gets out, and backswings Alex across the face with the butt of a semiautomatic pistol, then gets back in his car and drives off. Alex, who can no longer see, is put in the back of the car with my roommate, who does a fast sketch of the guy who nailed him while the guy in the front passenger seat takes down a liscense number and a car description. They drive Alex to the hospital, where the medics find that the gun handle cut a hole in the cartilage of his nose, making him look like he's got a third nostril. His front lip is split wide open, he's got several loose teeth, and his eye looks like he went three rounds in a boxing ring. They've pretty much told him he's going to need reconstructive surgery to fix all the damage.
We're all mad as hell. The fact that the guy drove off, then came back just to get revenge means he actually planned it out. The fact that we don't know whether the gun was loaded or not and whether that factored into his decision to nail Alex has us worried. The fact that he actually saw fit to rearrange Alex's face with a gun at all just because he was cut off has us dumbfounded.
