You could already do this if you lived in Japan and had a WonderSwan, but:

http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=5202

Square/Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy I and II together on a single GBA cartridge! It's good to see a continued Square/Enix - Nintendo relationship.

(That reminds me, I should actually beat my copy of Final Fantasy that I've had for years some day).

A port of a port of 2 NES games? And no mention of Final Fantasy III yet? Square-Enix can do better than that. I've already beaten both I and II on the PSX remake, and unless they add in new features, the only real reason to get this is to play the games anywhere.

I beat both, but the GBA won't have the CG Intros...

in II never get rid of the Bloodswords, save them to be equipped for the final battle...

Give me III dammit, III!

But I wonder, are they going to use the original sprites or have an option to select them? Because the PSX versions have totaly new sprite models for both games.

Even though the original spites look well...their age...

According to this site: http://game-science.com/news/000551.html there are.

Take a look at the scan in that site. Does one of the monsters look familiar to you FF6 players?

Yeah the Doom Train...

I can play FF I and II on my PS1 w/ portable screen. Why not just do FF III for the GBA?

Because....

then I can't have all Final fantasies on playstaion :p

besides that can't just release III all by itself.

III isn't nearly as popular as some of the later games.

People need incentive, and they would probably charge 30 bucks, and 30 bucks for 3 isn't worth it, considering the game isn't even that long apparently.

3 needs to be packaged with somthing

why they didn't package it with 4 for Chronicals is above me...

but he carries an ax, not a sword..Yep that's Guy alright. Even though his default weapon is an axe, you can give him a sword if you want (in fact, you can do this with any character).

Character designs reminds me of Crystal Chronicles or FFT Advance (although I doubt it's Akihiko Yoshida, so that leaves whoever did Crystal Chronicles).

This kinda makes me feel sad for all those sorry saps who wasted their money on a Wonderswan Color just to get the Final Fantasy remakes. :p

Erm, not really, these FF originally came out on a Nintendo platform, so there really isn't a release issue there.. I think FF is still firmly stuck to Sony's side... give or take the occasional FF release on other platforms..

Because some of us don't have a PS1 w/ portable screen. I don't even have a PS1.

Glad I didn't buy Origins. Still want FF3, though:sad: .

I predict that if FF1&2 is sucessful, then Square Enix will probably release the remaining 4 FF Nintendo titles on the GBA as 2-in-1 packs, like FF3&4 and FF5&6. That would rule:cool: .

That's it! I must buy a GBA now! They have all of these great games on it and I've been reluctant to buy one up to this point, but now that they have FF1 and FF2 on it, I must buy the handheld now...period. :) Can't wait

Compared to the other RPGs on GBA the two remakes of Final Fantasy really arn't anything special.

and it's probably going to be a lesser package than origins...

granted they could add a SUPER HARD mode, but I don't really like just changing difficulty levels unless they add a new ending or somthing for each difficulty level...

Besides it's only around 30-40 hours of play time for both games put together

Phantasy Star Collection has the first three games of Phantasy Star and costs the same...

If they added Final Fantasy 3 to the mix THEN it would be worth getting...

but if you can't find Origins for $20 or don't have a Playstation, the GBA would be a worthy aquisition

These are ports of the Wonderswan Color verisons so the graphics are better then the orginal verisons of the games, but like many of you I would rather have VI (III), but that will be sold as a seperate game because it is one of the more popular games in the series. Kinda goes along with Sega not putting PSIV on the Phantasy Star Collection.

I do hope they release PSIV as a stand alone game with enhanced graphics.

Actually, I think they meant the REAL Final Fantasy III, which is so far, the only Final Fantasy game not to be released in the US.

They cancelled the Wonderswan port since they had problem extracting the original code from the Famicom version, which is why they skipped to FF4 to begin with. I'm pretty sure we'll see Final Fantasy III on the GBA or PS (perhaps both) eventually.

Just one note about Final Fantasy 4

it's one of the hardest ones in the series

The US SNES version(called Final Fantasy 2) was the easy version, with an easy final boss, and more cash available and dropped in the game, not to mention leveling was quick and the monsters were weak...

The hard version which is the Final Fantasy 4 that came with Chonicals...

to actualy stand a chance to beat the final boss, you need to be level 70 plus, and leveling doesn't come easy...also money is scarse, and the best equipment is needed asap so you don't die often...usualy monsters hit for a few hundred HP when you're in the 20's....and all you have is a few hundred HP...

Just noticed that Jundaunted's avatar is a pic of the easy version of Zeromus

Yep! Hence the title. :D

Anyway, FF2 (as in the US SNES version of FF4) <b>was not based on Easytype,</b> that's a common misconception. Rather Easytype was based on the US version of the game, but managed to sneak out into the market first. Zeromus was redrawn for the Easytype version. It was more or less the "International version" of FF4.

Hard-Ass Nails Zeromus does....and yet there is a trick to beat both apparently...

That is true. Final Fantasy, in every form rocks IMO - it's great to have them on any console - I'm still playing FFT on my GBA and loving every minute of it!

Well, technically, FFLegends are actually known as Saga games(A distant grandpa of Saga Frontier ;) ), other RPG created by Square so they don't really count.

Do they mean FF II the one everyone likes?
or do they mean the horrible terrible nasty one with the blue cover
that was watered down and made into a ugly little tutorial type thing

I hope its the real ffII because my brother is obsessed with that one
and REALY doesn't wanna pay 50 bucks for it used (it's " a popular series")
so 30 bucks about for both of em, I'll have to tell him to get a GBA now :D

It's the Japanese Final Fantasy II released only for the Famicom, not Final Fantasy IV (or Mystic Quest if that what you meant by blue cover). Of couse that should've been obvious to anyone since they had been using the proper Japanese numbering since VII (not to mention this has been announced in Japan only so far).

Let me spell this out for everyone:

-Almost no special features

-No updated graphics like PSX

-No cutscenes

-More $$ than PSX version

-Smaller Screen compared to portable PSX

-No FF III US release in site

Yet everyone is overjoyed when there was an up to date related product that came out less than a year ago.

*cough* Mystic Quest *cough*Mystic Quest was fun.

Mystic Quest was fun. :mad:That's what I was trying to point out...

The PSX version has added scenes(not the CG ones) in that weren't originaly
in FF II and I. The original versions of the game if they were released in their form today wouldn't do so well considering that black was the most prominent color in those games...and the 4 other colors were used sparingly

1) It's a TRADITIONAL FF title that can be played on the go (FFTA is not a part of the traditional FF series)
2) FF Origins is still a rare title to find (Gamestop.com (http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?sortby=title&searchtype=quicksearch&searchcount=12&keyword=Final+Fantasy&platform=14) has only preowned copies on backorder and ebgames.com (http://ebgames.com/ebx/categories/products/deptpage.asp?wherefrom=search&searchword=Final%20Fantasy&web_dept=Playstation) sells new copies for $30, along with amazon.com. Speaking of which...)
3) FF1&2 will only be about $30 (same price as FFO)
4) The PSone, even with the monitor, lacks the TRUE portability the GBA has (plus, the GBA can fit into your pocket)

Artimus Gigan

Check in bestbuy stores
they seem to have alot of copies of Origins, anthologies, and chronicals...

and Origins does have more extras than the GBA version, I mean granted it's got portability, but really would you rather have better more clear graphics and CG intros and concept art instead of portability?

Vyse

Not in my Best Buy store (ran through thier preferred store availability service @ bestbuy.com and got zilch for FFO in the Savannah area; FFO is also at limited store availability accorrding to bestbuy.com).

There is no way my mind is being changed. I'm buying FF1&2 on the GBA (The success of that title might lead to future FF complimations on the GBA and DS, including FF3) I love my GBA more than my brother's PS2 (bro is 25 and lives at home until he gets married next month).

Can some link me to a list of added scenes not it the original? I played the rerelease and always wondered... :pAny of the larger sprite scenes

Like in FFII the scene of the airship lifting off, or the boat being sucked under by Leviathan... or in FF1 when they show the hero looking over the boundless land and such...

when they were originaly released the 8 bit machiens wouldn't have been able to handle that sort of stuff...

Also I find this funny, the re-release team who re did the games out number 10 to 1 the oririginal 8-10 people who origianly made the games. I mean they even have the VA listed who just provided the huffs and puffs from the opening CG scene in FFII

It'd be really nice if they released FF6 sometime soon. I also really want Chrono Trigger. Wonder if they could fit the cut scenes on the cartridge, because I know Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is supposed to have FMV.
