View Full Version : The "How Did You Get Your Name?" Thread.
Mr. Pedro
04-08-2004, 05:53 PM
This is a question that I have been meaning to ask for a while now. Basically, you talk about how you came across or decided to choose the moniker that you are currently using. I know that many choices are fairly obvious, but the more obscure ones could use a little explaining.
I'll start with me. The Mr Pedro name came from a few places. First of all, Pedro is the Spanish language version of my actual first name. The Mr was inspired by a fellow who runs a wrestling-related site by the name of Mr. Tito. I saw this and figured that since there was a Tito running around, there was no reason that there couldn't be a Mr. Pedro. I liked the formality of the name, but decided to remove the period to make it a bit more casual.
So, respond if you feel like it, or ingore it completely so I can feel like a failure.
Strawberry Jam (http://zimed.net/legalmusic/The%20Fine%20Print%20-%20Strawberry%20Jam.mp3), and you know it's just the way I am. So love me back, love me back, you could have dilluted that attack. But I don't mind, and it's about time, you know I don't have to wait in line to get knocked down. Can get that anywhere in town, yeah I can get that anywhere in town.
My initials. I'm just a creative kind of guy.

For mine I just randomly picked the character Vash from Trigun who is also known a the Humanoid Typhoon.

I thought it had to do with Excel Saga.
I would be lying if I said that Excel Saga had no influence on my choice.
Come to think of it, I have found myself screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" in times of great despair.:D

Well I could not really think of a name for myself, I almost picked Narfgirl but that was my name at fanfiction.net and I just did not want that here. So finally I said I hated Micheal Eisner and that if he ever meets up with me or comes near me he will be in big trouble, so hence the name Eisnersenemy.
Vyse-the lead character in the Sega/studio formally known as Overworks RPG Skies of Arcadia (DC/GCN). The Gamecube version is my favorite RPG of all time. (if you haven't played it, do yourself a favor and find used copies on eBay)
I will also tell you the origins of that whole tetrisdork moniker I've been using (esp. within my sig). It began in either 1998, 1999, or 2000 (memory hazy). I was registering at ign.com for one of their free accounts. Also, around that time, I was completly obsessed with Tetris thanks to Tetris DX (GBC) and The New Tetris (N64). So, I called myself tetrisdork and never looked back. Even though Tetris is no longer my main game, I still like calling myself tetrisdork (it sounds cool IMO).
Those are my reasons as to why I call myself Vyse, tetrisdork, and Vyse the tetrisdork.
Squall
04-08-2004, 08:29 PM
Heh, I'm lazy, and didn't want to type in a long name that was hard to remember every time I logged on. (This was back in college when I used a computer lab, and didn't have my own PC at home.) I tried a few random short names as they came to mind until I found one that wasn't already taken. So "Squall" it was. :)
(I'm a big Final Fantasy fan too, of course -- played and beaten FF VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, and X-2, as well as Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross -- but other than that there was no major philosophical reason for the decision. :))

Jim Norton is my favorite comedian/Tough Crowd regular and he is always using insults that end in -bag, such as scumbag, dirtbag, and jizzbag. I thought jizzbag would be a little excessive, so I just went with Dirtbag. Probably alone, but I think its funny.
Thanos
04-08-2004, 08:49 PM
Thanos is a comic book character; one of my favorites.

My Mom, "Well, lessee.... you have a cousin named, Keesham, and we liked that name, but wanted something that sounded a bit different."
My Dad, "He doesn't have a cousin named, Keesham."
My Mom, "....... you're right. I don't know where we got your name from."
Real name's Keith, btw.
Sandoz
04-08-2004, 09:07 PM
"Sandoz" is from the Smashing Pumpkins song "Girl Named Sandoz." Freshman year my best friend and I devised nicknames for each other based on Pumpkins songs and I've been going by Sandoz ever since.
Spike Mcdougal
04-08-2004, 09:13 PM
I wanted to use an original name so Spike is the first name of the main character from Cowboy Bebop + Mcdougal, my favorite characters from Outaw Star and here we are
When I first joined Toon Zone, my user name was Avran. That's the title of the poem/blessing given at the end of Andrew M. Greeley's novel Lord of the Dance. I had been using "caughtinadream" as my e-mail ID for quite some time, but I didn't want that as my username on a message board. I was having a hard time coming up with something good, when "Avran" came to mind.
I had my user name changed to Dr. Octopus around the end of January this year. I have to give fellow board member Spider-Man the credit for giving me the idea to have it changed. :) As much as I had liked Avran, I didn't feel any great attachment to it, and was contemplating a name change - but I just wasn't sure what. Spider-Man made the suggestion because he had noticed that I was a big Doc Ock fan. I gave the idea some thought, and a little while later, I submitted the request to have my name changed.
Botman
04-08-2004, 09:17 PM
Botman was the name of a Sonic the Hedgehog character I made up when I was a kid. (He was Robotnik's second in command.)
When I first went online, it was the only thing I could think of when coming up with a screen name.
The Sazuke avatar...well...I had a perfect image in my head on what my character looked like, but since I can't draw, there was no way for me to put that image online, or anywhere else.
So, since Sazuke is a robot, I decided to simply put up an image of him instead.
ElBarto

Bart always spray paints 'ElBarto' on the walls so thats how I got my name!

Evil Dr. Reef
04-08-2004, 10:12 PM
Long, long ago, there was a man named Reef. While growing up, he was frequently abused by the town jester. Since he was always nursing his wounds at home, he began to study the knowledge of the world. Once his wounds healed, he would venture back into the world, and again, the jester would mercilessly pelt him with tomatoes and razorblades. Again, he would go into seclusion, studying, healing, and preparing for his next encounter with the horrible jester, until one day guns were invented, and Reef killed him. He then spent the remainder of his childhood frolicking in the fields and strolling in the streams and smelling daffodils and dasies and roses and dandelions. He was severly alergic to dandelions, so he spent the next fifteen years of his life in a deep coma.
When he awoke, Reef began his studies again. He studied flowers, and became the first successful botanist/murderer in history. After giving this career path ended in a flower-hit gone wrong, Reef thought that it was time to begin college. After all, he was 43. Reef began his freshman year at the University of Slartimanriofast at the age of 67, and instantly took an interest in Medieval Slartimanriofastian History. He changed his major 3 hours later. Now, it was his first love, killing jesters. He graduated from Sartimanriofast University 253 years later, after acquiring every degree possible in the art of jester elimination. It was at this point that he became known as Dr. Reef, the first jester hunter the world had ever seen.
After roaming the wilderness for another 500000 millenia, Dr. Reef had eliminated all the jesters in Slartimanriofast, including the revered Queen Jester, laying jester eggs in her cave at the peak of Mount Corocalionaila. Dr. Reef decided that it was time to take his hunt on the road. He spent the next fourty billion years roaming the planet, hunting down every last jester in existance and terminating them. After the final jester had been slaughtered, Dr. Reef decided to settle down for a while. He built a nice cabin in Montreal, and began a blissful retirement in French-Canada. Time passed, and Reef became discontent with his lifestyle of daytime TV and no jesters to brutally murder. One day, while watching the noon news, Reef was horrified by a new breed of jester, called the 'mime'. Dr. Reef began his hunt anew, beginning in Quebec, and then moving on, systematically to every country in the world.
Seven months later (mimes aren't that popular, y'know) he had slain the last of their kind. But his bloodlust had not been satiated. He began killing at random. Clowns, kabuki actors, anthing with face paint. It was his trigger for psychoctic behavior. Since everyone loves Kabuki theater, Reef was dubbed Evil, and so, the name Evil Dr. Reef was born.

idislikepandas was my first name. i chose that because i couldn't think of anything else and the major thing at the time was the wwf lawsuit versus the wwe. the wwf's symbol is a panda
KingOfDarkness was my second name. i chose that name after ganondorf, the main villain in most of the zelda games. he's also my favorite villain of all time, plus wind waker was just coming out
Blue Falcon was my third name. one of my favorite super heros. i just saw the harvey birdman attorney at law episode featuring him
Hero of Winds is my current name. named after link from wind waker

Watching Big O maybe =) yes
BonyT
04-08-2004, 10:59 PM
Mine is a nickname given to me by my older brother when I was just a sprout. I was tall (for my age) & thin with broad shoulders--shaped kind of like the T-bone in a T-bone steak. Hence, BonyT; it stuck.
KTF- what does it mean?
No, it's not my initials. No it's not a misspelling of KFC. It's short for Kaxxar the fox, who is a character I created. Now that I think about it, KTF sounds much cooler.
Juu-kuchi
04-09-2004, 01:47 AM
It was based on a time when I could not sign in a name I usually used a long time ago (MarioMan900), so I decided to come up with a faux Japanese name. So therefore... Juu-kuchi.
That and I was thinking of the Kodomo no Omocha opening theme "Juu-kuji no News".
Kury Wagner
04-09-2004, 10:58 AM
Kurt Wagner is Nightcrawler, from the X-Men's, real name. I love Nightcrawler. He is my favorite comic character. :anime:
Plus, I thought it would be cool to have a guy's name, seeing as I'm a girl. My mom's name isn't girly, and I have a six-month old niece, who's name isn't girly.
Westlander
04-09-2004, 11:28 AM
Westlander... It's the surname of my D&D character, Bjorn Westlander.
"Sword-swinging superstar"? That's because Bjorn runs around with a greatsword and can harm people pretty bad.
Space Lion
04-09-2004, 01:43 PM
If you know about the music from Cowboy Bebop, then you already know the origin of my name. But for those who don't...
Space Lion is one of the tracks from the Cowboy Bebop series. You can hear it during the staff roll of the Jupiter Jazz part 2 episode.
But that wasn't the only influence.
-The lion is my favorite wild animal (king of beasts, you know)
-I like jazz music
-I like 'space' shooters (video games)
So, yeah... Space Lion.
Master Moron
04-09-2004, 02:27 PM
Well, back when I first started going online I didn't know how to set up my e-mail, so I asked my brother to do it. Because my brother was irritated that I didn't know how to set up my e-mail he named me "I am a moron who let someone else set up my e-mail." I used to go to the SOS board a long time ago and whne you posted there your e-mail address appeared as your name.
Anyway, eventually someone suggested I change my name to something else and gave me suggestions. I think one of the other suggestions was Super Moron or Less Than Moron or something like that. But, I really liked Master Moron, might have something to do with the fact that I was into Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Master was the villain in the first season. It might also have to do with so many villains in TV shows calling their leader master. I remember watching DBZ as a kid and hearing all of Freeza's servants refer to him as Master Freeza. I really liked the ring of that, even though technically it should be Lord Freeza. Anyway, so Master Moron sounded pretty cool, I mean, sure being the Master of a group of morons wouldn't be as good as being a master of aliens or vampires, but being the master of anything is good.
Interestingly, when I signed up for my hotmail account a number of Master Moron's were already taken, so I had to put MasterMoron81 instead. I guess Master Moron is a popular name. Though, I've never actually found anyone else named Master Moron on any forum.
prankster619
04-09-2004, 03:05 PM
The name "prankster619" comes from two things, the prankster part came from when I used to watch the Canadian cartoon "What's with Andy" on ABC Family, and the 619 is the area code for San Diego south of interstate 8.
Kaner
04-09-2004, 04:09 PM
JerkBox was taken from a character in a comic book made by friends/associates of my brother. I'm not sure if the comic is appropriate to link to the Cafe, but I'm sure a google search will take anyone interested to the right place. Oh and if you find it, JerkBox is the messed up Jack-in-the-Box.
As for my real name. My first name is still a bit of a mystery, my middle name was taken from an olympic runner, and my last name was made up/adopted when my great grandpappy came over to the states.
-JerkBox
Taikyo
04-09-2004, 04:10 PM
I've been creating fanfic characters for a long time, and Taikyo just happened to be the one I was working on at the time. Since I wanted him to be kind of a master of the sky, I used the Japanese word "taikyo," which means "the sky," "the universe," and other things.
True Noir
04-09-2004, 04:29 PM
I got True Noir obviously from the anime Noir. When I watched the anime Noir, I totally fell in love with it and I wished that I could be just like the two true Noirs so the closest i thought i would get is by calling myself True Noir.
Kurtman
04-09-2004, 05:00 PM
SEG9 stands for "SnoringEmeraldGrayhound9". I have no Idea why I came up with such a Name but I did.
Rayeli
04-09-2004, 05:54 PM
I'm a huge fan of the Rayman games so I mixed "Ray" with my name "Maeli". And what do you get? Rayeli! Creative no?
MAXIMUS
04-09-2004, 08:52 PM
My real nickname is Max, my friend loved transformers, so he gave me a transformers name, Maximus Prime, then it got shortened to Maximus. Pretty crazy.
Lord Dalek
04-09-2004, 09:28 PM
I'm a Doctor Who fan, and lord_dalek@hotmail.com has always been my e-mail address. So the name kinda stuck.
Captain Harlock
04-09-2004, 11:47 PM
Of course, the Leiji Matsumoto character - Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
purplehairedwonder
04-10-2004, 12:45 AM
Contrary to popular belief, I actually don't have purple hair:p My name refers to Future Trunks of DBZ. I was looking at Temple O' Trunks, and on the front page it refered to Trunks at the purple-haired wonder of DBZ, and I liked the sound of it.
GCFyouthcamper
04-10-2004, 08:16 AM
My name is GCFyouthcamper. GCF is my church. The "youthcamper" part... well, the church has a yearly youth camp and I've been attending for the last five years. I just love it. I'm probably the oldest regular in the camp, a veteran, hence "youthcampER." In fact, we're having another camp next week.
Well, let's see... I first used this name at a place called the "Ed, Edd n Eddy Clubhouse" in the guestbook. The site is long dead...
Anyway, signing the guestbook I need a name. I was feeling creative so I just used the name from one of the characters from the show. "Eddy." Yay.
I than went to a place called "Dyl Man's Ed, Edd n Chicken" page... a site that is also dead. There I sumbitted my early and really crappy fanfiction. I still used the creative name that is "Eddy."
I than went to a place called "The Ed, Edd n Eddy Zone" and was called Eddy there, too. A lot of my crappy, old, sucky fanfiction that everyone seemed to think was great got put up there.
And when I came here I decided to go with the name "Eddy." Yeah... now whenever I sign up for something I'm always DarkMatter.
Oh, and my fanfiction has gotten a LOT better...
Salvor
04-10-2004, 01:28 PM
I've been using this online nickname for 6 years now... so it's more an alter ego than just a nick :)
Actually it comes from the Foundation books by Isaac Asimov. One of the characters, a very wise man, was called Salvor Hardin...
Conekiller
04-12-2004, 01:27 PM
I've gone by other names on other boards (most notabley: Confuzor, which was a Beast Wars pun, and still my e-mail adress) But I'm prety much stuck with Conekiller now
It's a breif nickname I aquired in drivers Ed while trying to parallel park. I violated those cones with the back of my car in such a way that would have gotten me arrested in most states. But eventually I got it right and now I can parallel park with the best of em. but the goofy nickname stuck. it has more crossover appeal than Confuzor anyway (as a reference, I'll still use the word "confuzed every so often, just a little thing I do)

The name "prankster619" comes from two things, the prankster part came from when I used to watch the Canadian cartoon "What's with Andy" on ABC Family, and the 619 is the area code for San Diego south of interstate 8.
Does ABC Family still show "What's With Andy?" ? New season is airing on Teletoon right now.
My name? It's me rolled up into one: I'm an O-T-A-K-U!! :anime: I am a lover of all things Japanese, so I picked "otaku" rather than "fan girl" (Sailor Fan Girl is a cute name, mind you ;) ). "Otaku" or "fan girl", I'm a fanatic of MAAAAAANY things. ;)
I'm "Carlos Oliveira" and "Miss Carlos" at other places. :) If I can find a Dino Crisis related board, I'll be "Regina", if her name isn't taken. ;)

Static Is my favorite hero. Blue is my favorite color. The 2 go great together. I Personally think Im him without the dreads:sweat:
Sampo
04-14-2004, 05:20 AM
Got the name Sampo from a Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) episode. Heck it was one of my favorite episodes of MST3K, a witch and her minions demanded a SAMPO in exchange for the daughter of a village they had held captive. It appears it was a device that created gold, wheat, and SALT. Joel and the bots made a couple of funny skits and also asked fans to submit letters about what they thought a Sampo was.
I was going to change it to another name... But decided against it, since it seems to fit well. SAM-PO does sound like Sample, and I appear to be providing/posting odd bits here and there. Screen caps, edited pics, and now on to some sound clips.
This is an interesting and entertaining thread. I was cracking up when I read Conekiller's post :D

Hmm...I think I know. Back when there was a place called Verboten and we had this thread about combining names. Well...my original name was Sunshine Shin and I combined it with a guy's name called Retan....
well, I had to put a e in the ten so it would make sense. People seem to assume I'm a guy when I'm really a girl.
K@pri
04-16-2004, 08:49 PM
My SN K@pri came from an friend of my family, then several months later, I found out it came from an villian from Power Rangers: Ninja Storm O_o. I used to watch Power Rangers, I stopped watching it before the Pokemon plauge came along. ^^;
The Frog
04-16-2004, 09:04 PM
I think mine's pretty self-explanitory. I like frogs and I like Kermit the Frog... so therefore... I am The Frog. Plus it's the name I use on a few other forums.

Once upon a time, while I was in Jr. high, a bunch of people threatened me so I got back at them by being a she-devil, hence the name Desdiablo.

it sure beats being known as 'longneck' on a forum.
or 'arden'.
or 'halifax'.

Delthayre
04-30-2004, 05:25 PM
Well, Delthayre was something I made up for a D&D campaign about five years ago and have used for various things. About three or so years back I started using it for my e-mail account and a few message bords, eventually it and the Bhutanese standard I use as my avatar became my signature representations on what I call in a way that is simulatneously affectionate and daming, "thar interweb."
