Air Master is one of THE best shows from last season.

Let me point out the reasons.

Characters? Blah.
All of them were terrible except for Maki, Sakamoto Juliet, and Lucha Master.
Story? There is none.
The story was just made to get from fight to fight. That doesn't work well with most series, but it works GREAT with this one.

Yet this series kicks ass.
Why?

The fights.

This show had some of the best fights I have EVER seen.
The animation was GREAT.

The moves that these characters pull are BRUTAL.
I was literally frozen at the screen for most of the series. I couldn't pull my eyes away from the action.

The music is good for the most part too.

I have no idea why people bash the show so much.
Maybe it's Renge-chan (The most annoying anime midget EVER. Why the hell wasn't she hit by a bus?), maybe it's the fanservice (Even though most of it is near the beginning. The middle -> end has almost NONE at all. The first part only has some because Maki fought in a skirt.)

If you want a show with brutal, extremely well-animated fights, then you NEED this show.

This wouldn't have anything to do with a certain post I did here two days ago right?

Actually, it does.
I just happened to see the post a few minutes ago, though.

I'm a fan of tacky trash, but I heard from some people that the fights weren't really that well animated. I can dig a show that's all about brainless fighting, but the fights have to have some novelty to them.

Girl who flies through the air, grab a person by the head, put them in a hold from a 10 story building, and then ram them straight into the ground sounds like a novel idea to me...

Not to mention one of the characters fights with a BMX bike.

Okay, little or no plot...

Inconsistent animation on some episodes...

Not the cutest girl designs around...

Renge constant annoying voice...

Mina's huge chest able to kill a large dog with a 30-second embrace...

But the fights, oh goodness the fights! I know there are a ton of anime out there way better in plot, storyline and characters. And sometimes I just want a regular mind-rot of arse-beating which I get in Air Master. It's been a while since I had watched an anime fight that made me say "Daaaaaaymn!" like the beatings on Air Master. Especially around episode 9 and on. Characters are popping out of the wood work and it's a party of beating with they didn't brought a six-pack of whupp-ass, they brought several kegs worth and than threw it out the window when it's done.

I have no idea what that last sentence meant, but I agree 100% with everything you just said.

I'll say this for Air Master..."Rolling1000tOON" (yup, that's the song name) by Maximum the Hormone (the band's name, once again, not making this up) is one of the coolest, most memorable ending theme songs since "Ride On Shooting Star". :D

As for the rest of the series, I've only seen bits and pieces from a HK DVD my girlfriend's brother has, so I can't say enough to give an opinion. It will probably never be released by an American Licensor since it will be seen by the purse-string holders as a so-called "sports anime", and sports anime doesn't sell. (with maybe the exception of "Princess Nine")

I can't see why they would consider Air Master a sport anime. The guy who directed it is the same from Dragon Ball so that should be a selling point.

True, dalek, but I can just see some lazy schmuck from a USA licensor who might be reviewing possible animes looking at it and saying "hmm...Maki was a gymnast, there's no sci-fi or magic element to it, a la Dragon Ball, no giant robots or androids, a lot of episodes take place in a wrestling ring...this looks to me like a sports anime...we'll pass."

Not saying that arguement is valid, I'm just saying that's why it might not find it's way over here. I'd like to be proven wrong.

Funi licenced Prince of Tennis, and it should be their kind of show.

Oh, I'm not saying it will never happen. I'm just saying by and large, Prince of Tennis and Princess Nine are the exceptions rather than the rule.

If any USA licensor got it, however, I would prefer it to be either Pioneer (Geneon, excuse me  ) or Bandai. But if FUNi could do with Air Master what it did with Fruits Basket (i.e. a pretty damn good dub) then I'd have no complaints. ;)

True, but basically the show is about violence, some of it pretty brutal. If it was just friendly "sports" like Princess Nine or even Yawara, I can see how it might not get picked up. But basically this is pretty much a fighting show. Some of the moves look pretty over the top as well.
