View Full Version : Cartoon Network's ADULT SWIM Makes Big Splash With Target Demos

Cartoon Network's newest programming block, Adult Swim, is heating up the ratings pool with its targeted audience of adults 18-34 and adults 18-49. The three-hour franchise of original animated series charted a 1.2 household rating on Sunday night, its best performance to date since its premiere on Sept. 2, 2001. Adult Swim also earned its highest adult 18-34 (0.7) and adult 18-49 (0.4) ratings to date. While Home Movies (10 p.m.) was the highest-rated show in the block (1.4) among households, Sealab 2021 (11:15 p.m.) and Space Ghost Coast to Coast (11:30 p.m.) both earned 1.0 ratings with adults 18-34, the highest-rated programs with the young adult demographic.

On the tween front, Dragon Ball Z, the Japanese anime' anchor series of Cartoon Network's weekday afternoon action-adventure block, Toonami, scored a 3.0 household rating, charting as the highest-rated animated program on all of cable among households for the week. The series continued its four-week run to date of posting at least four telecasts among the top 50 basic cable ad-supported programs for the week.
Overall, Cartoon Network finished the second week of October with a 1.1 total day household rating, finishing in fourth place (tied with MSNBC and Lifetime) among ad-supported cable networks. In prime time, Cartoon Network scored a 1.7 household rating, landing in fifth place (tied with Lifetime) among ad-supported cable networks. Compared to the same week last year, both total day and prime time household ratings were unchanged, while ratings among key kid demographics grew by double digits across the board.
