I know that Halo made using vechicles popular, but it wasn't the first FPS that allow the player to control a vechicle.

In Shadow Warrior, you could control a bulldozer and a tank on a few levels.

In Duke Nukem 3D, you could ride the subway, but I can't remember if there are any controllable vehicles.

Was there any FPS that used vehicles before these games?

What was the earliest FPS that used vehicles?

The first FPS that I know of to really utilize vehicles was Tribes which was released back in 98'. If my memory serves me correctly though Shadow Warrior was released a year before Tribes.

Shadow Warrior was released on May 13, 1997.

And Tribes was the precursor to Halo, correct? Like, isn't Halo practically a spinoff?

If anything, I thought it was a spinoff of Marathon.

Remember, Marathon was a Mac game done by Bungie. Halo, originally was supposed to be a Mac game, too. Obviously, things have changed.

And if Halo did come out for the Mac, I wonder how MS would've held up in the console wars without their ace.

It would definately have been a tougher fight for them, but I believed they'd still pull ahead. The xbox is a great machine, and there are plenty of great games out for it (says the nintendo girl) for it to hold it's own.

Happens to the best of us. And no one remembers Marathon nowadays, anyway.

Well, the very first FPS ever made was vehicular. It was a little game called Battlezone... perhaps you've heard of it.

Goldeneye's the oldest one I actually know/remember. At least it was the first FPS I ever played with vehicles.

I think they mean a first person shoot-em up in which vehicles could be utilized.. Battlezone you were fixed in the vehicle.

I think Mercenary was one of the first in this respect.. sort of.. it was more than a FPS with A LOT of strategy, but you could choose to board cars and ships and attack other objects...
