Hey all, I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a few Batman comic questions. Does anyone know the riddles used by the Riddler in the following comics, and what they correspond to?

- Batman: Gotham Adventures 28 "Notes" (I'm also interested in knowing the riddles that the kidnapped musician plants and what they indicate.)

- Gotham Adventures 56 "Identity Theft" and 57 "The Real Deal" (as well as the clues left by the other man, who's stealing the Riddler's thunder)

I'm also inquiring as to what's going on in the new Batman Adventures storyline, I just recently got the Issue 11. What is the Riddler doing now (what's his business do), and what clues has he used in any past issues (issues 1-10 of Batman Adventures)?

This information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmm...off-hand, I can't recall just what all those clues were. I will tell you though that I've been studying music for years, and it didn't help me at all when those riddles popped up. Scott Peterson wrote the Gotham Adventures issues to which you refer, and the current issue of Batman Adventures that you picked up was written by Ty Templeton, with Dan Slott on the back-up story.

If I were you, I'd try to find all the previous Adventures books written by Ty and Dan - they're the best you'll find. And definately pick up the first issues of Batman Adventures...because the series is ending with issue #17, and has been one heck of a ride :)

Hope that helps. Glad to have you around.

It's ending with 17? Man, I gotta find some back issues then, or at least a collection paperback.

As for the "Notes" or "The Real Deal", you wouldn't happen to have an issue of them, would you Disneyboy? I'm just asking.

I bought every issue of Gotham Adventures, but at the moment, I'm not at home, so I can't check them out for you. Don't dispair however...there are several other folks here at the boards who also have those issues...it may take a day or two for the right person to come across you're thread, but someone will, and you shall have the answers you seek :)

Howdy,

DC is publishing digest-sized TPBs of the Batman Adventures in June (http://comics.toonzone.net/solicitations/2004-06/).

You should be able to pre-order these from your Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Shop (click here to find one near you (http://csls.diamondcomics.com/)), or from an on-line retailer like Things From Another World (http://www.tfaw.com) (the TZ Comic Book dealer of choice), the Discount Comic Book Service (http://www.dcbservice.com/), or G-Mart (http://www.g-mart.com/).

Unfortunately, I've never read any of the issues you mention except BA#11. Probably get more people once the working week hits.

Well, when you get home Disneyboy, do you think you could help me with the riddle info?

Although I've been unable to acquire a copy of "Notes" in my recent back issue hunt, I do have some of the issues you're interested in.

In "Identity Theft," the only thing said of the first riddle is that is was in the form of a poem called a Sestina.

The second riddle was: "Vue, bruit, odeur, contact, gout at a piece of delicate workmanship."

Anyway, these were imposter riddles from a so-called genius who had not even figured out what the point was going to be yet. The reasoning was so skewed that I can't begin to describe to you what he had in mind. The Riddler was rightly outraged.

In "The Real Deal," the riddles are as follows:

Riddle #1: "One man's labors are never through, Any you know I ain't lyin'. Go behind the scenes or you know someone's dyin'."

Riddle #2: A Haiku by Edward Nygma. "Relative genius; investigating weapons; ultimately death."

Riddle #3: "Chiroptera - Anthropoides - Vespertillionidae - Hominoidea [a chain-link rebus connecting the two word sequences] Microchiroptera - Hominidae - Leptonycteris nivalis - Homo sapien sapien." *whew*

Pretty tough, huh?

But if you want a really good Riddler story, look to Ty Templeton. Batman Adventures #2 is an excellent issue. It really shows the Riddler's genius and the depths of his obsession. Ty has really utilized the Riddler in this story arc. I've never seen such great characterization of my favorite male bat-villian (Harley being my favorite female).

I'm kind of new to the boards, so I don't know how to do the spoiler thing, but I hope that Nygma gets out of his "you-know-what" soon enough to help Batman solve how the Penguin got elected.

That's all for now, riddle-tykes! Hope I've been of some help.

Thanks for the help, Harper. BTW, what does Nygma's new company do in the Batman Adventures?

Nygma's company, Omnicorp, deals in telecommunications.

Oh man, I loved "Identity Theft". That was my absolute favorite issue of Gotham Adventures. I love Kim. The fact that he hadn't really worked out what the point of the riddles was so hysterical. The Riddler screams at him "That's not the way it works!!!" I also loved the exchange between Batman and Robin when Batman isn't convinced the riddles are the work of the Riddler.

Batman: "It just doesn't seem like him. It seems... artier."

Robin: "Okay, I'll just cross that off the list of words I never thought I'd hear the Batman say...":D
