I'm looking at the recent Gampro issue I got(it's this month's issue)
and it has a preview for Sam and Max...
Not only that it has multiple ingame screens OF Sam and Max...
and it's for the PC...
What the hell is going on?

They probably had the article typed up and the magazine gone to press before it was cancelled. Not unheard of--EGM's even reviewed full games and then by the time the magazine hits stands, it's been cancelled.

They'll probably issue a retraction next month.

Yet they had about 2 weeks to fix that error.

Very doubtful.
Besides the person to blame here is the idiot from Lucas Arts that said "This isn't the right time to release a game like this into the market" when we all know that Leisure Suit Larry is comming back.

After checking the official Lucas Arts site, and then many of the LA fan & unofficial sites, I've seen nothing to lead me to believe that Sam & Max are back on the drawing board.
Unfortunate.

What does the official statement from Lucasarts imply? That they've shelved all the concept work, textures, models, etc and might *someday* come back to them, that they've simply locked all that material in the vault of unfinished projects, or that they've deleted, re-formatted their hard drives and burned all the hard copy stuff?

Magazines are always late like this.
Plus, if all the savesamandmax.com stuff worked, surely they'd say something about it on their own site.
Although at over 22,000 signatures, this is getting pretty big. I suppose you never know...

They said that it's not the right time to release an adventure game.
That's what they said to the public, of course. The words themselves don't spell ultimate doom, but Steve Purcell, creator of Sam & Max, seems pretty much convinced that the game is cancelled, and I'm sure his explanation is more true to what really happened.
