Fox may or may not air the episodes, but Cartoon definitely will...

According to that, looks like Milla Kunis might be back, too.

Hopefully CN will broadcast the new episodes.

Um...the article says that Cartoon Network will broadcast the new episodes.

I'd be happy if Fox DIDN'T get the new episodes. That way FG could be considered a Cartoon Network original.

CN only sublicenses Family Guy from Fox. I doubt CN could pay the ~$1M-10% per ep budget by themselves.

According to Newman, the Cartoon Network license fee and expected DVD sales will help cover the cost of resuscitating "Family Guy."

Why coldnt AOL-TIME WARNER pay the fee. I mean obvisouly CN is an fully owned subsidiary of Time Warner (through Turner Broadcasting) so itd be in tehir best interest. So technically CN's financial limitations could technically be overlooked if Time Warner felt that Family Guy could be highly profitbale for them -- which it seems to be.

But who knows. Fox shouldnt air hte episodes and probably wont they have all those other crappy shows.

$10 says FOX will try to air them, rotate it around the schedule every 2 weeks, shove it off into some godawful timeslot and cancel it again.

CN is paying the license fee. Are you asking whether AOL-TW should "buy" versus "rent?"

Buying entails paying Fox (if Fox sells and how much) a huge settlement, then funding the new eps by themselves (with no help from Fox). So that's 2 things they have to pay for, with their income coming from TV ad sponsors (which they would have anyway when they "rent") and DVD sales. But unlike Fox, no license fee income (since CN was the licensee), at least until syndication.

From that very article:

"although Fox can exercise an option to broadcast the segs first."

I hope that doesn't happen.

I couldn't care less if Mila Kunis returned. It's Alex Bornstein that they need.

How many more times can this news get "official?"

I couldn't care less if Mila Junis returned. It's Alex Bornstein that they need.As long as it's still a FOX property, Borstein will return, since she's still under contract to FOX for her work on MadTV. I suspect that Mila Kunis will come back too, since she's still afilliated through That 70's Show. Of course, if AOL/TM were to buy the Family Guy liscence outright in order to fully own the property, I'd have my doubts about the return of many of the role players in the development of the show.

they wont buy the rights to Family Guy. that never happens these days. FOX will still own the show, and as such will market and distribute it.

This is great news! My only concern is... after the team has been apart for awhile, can they recreate the magic of the series' first run? Or will "Family Guy" be another famous show that "jumps the shark"?

According to Alex's website she's definetly involved...don't forget, she's one of the head writers.

No, I WANT Fox to run the episodes first. BECAUSE I don't have cable, can't get it, and know no one of whom I can bum it off of. THINK OF PEOPLE LIKE ME.

Glad to hear that Family Guy will continue in 2005! I can't wait!

First off, the Fox Network never really did well with both Family Guy and Futurama and once it arrived on CN, look at the ratings now!

Although Cartoon Network's press release calls Family Guy's return "unprecedented," it is not. Although it's unusual for a cancelled show to return intact (as opposed to a sequel, update, recasting, re-imagining or whatever) years after being left for dead, it's happened at least once before on US TV.

And Turner should know cuz they're the ones who made new episodes of "The Jetsons" in the 80s to give the show a bigger library for syndication.

A case might be made for Alfred Hitchcock Presents... which was brought back by NBC in the 80s with the original host, colorized in true Turner fashion.

One can only hope that Family Guy can come back with the same stride as it left with. The writers, animators, and voice talent have been away from the production for years. Hopefully Family Guy won't add something stupid like that "Orbity" thing from the 80s Jetsons episodes. Great news though.

Whether it's on Fox too or not doesn't make a bit o' difference to me. The important thing is that the funniest show on TV is returning!!! :D

I'm so happy, too bad the same can't happen for Futurama, though I'd rather have new Family Guy
