Which do you prefer the most?
Most of my collection is made up of back issues, but I collect 4-5 issues monthly.

I get my monthly issues, like JLA or DC New Frontier, but I mostly get back issues when I go to the comic book store, hoping to find old issues of the Internatial, Task Force, or older JLA. Monthly issues are good, but back issues are in much more quality.
I voted for "Current issues with a hint of classics". Right now, most of the books I'm buying are current; however, I will hunt down a copy of an older book if it catches my interest. In the case of my favourite Marvel villian, Doc Ock, it's great to read the older stories that he was a part of, as there is a lot of history and character development that I would otherwise be missing out on.

Howdy,
This might be a silly question, but current issues become back issues within a month, don't they? :)

Good point, Ace. :D I'm not a regular comic buyer, so maybe I'm not the best one to determine this - but I count anything released within the last six months as being "current".

These days, back issues; not much current that I actually like...

Both are essential to my comic buying. I follow the new books I like and I buy large amounts of back issues. I'm murder on a decent dollar box or fleamarket stand. There's sort of a list in my head of stuff my collection tells me it needs, and finding one of these prized books in the wild (Ostrander Suicide Squad for example) is a good feeling. I do buy the back issues faster than I read them, but I try hard and mostly succeed to keep up reading the monthly books.

I only get back issues occasionally. My budget's tight enough with the comics I'm buying! I recently bought some back issues to get signed at a comic-con, Untold Tales of Spider-Man, Avengers (Vol.4), and I'm still trying to get some Jim Lee X-Men issues, good Spider-Man, Daredevil and Punisher (not team-up) stuff, Ghost Rider, and Chuck Dixon/Mike Wieringo Robin stuff:rolleyes:

I was never allowed to buy comics as a kid, so my collection mostly consists of back issues, picked up after they've gone up a dollar or two in price. I didnt get to read most of the Batman: Knightfall saga till mid 1999, and recently after a few years I'm suddenly hyped on comics again, and I've begun reading the Batman: No Man's Land TBPs (if those count as back issues).
Actually, I'm still missing a lot of issues from the Knightfall saga, but my local comic store doesnt have an extensive-enough back-issue bin for me to find what i'm missing.
There's also a lot of good lesser-known stories I've found just because all the issues were in the $1 bin (Legends of the Dark Knight arcs "Watchtower" and "Idols" come to mind).

Right now, it's back issues until I can catch up to the present. The only current titles I buy are Metallix, The Big O, and Batman Adventures.
