I just bought the Golden Collection. After buying DVDs for 5 years, this is the first time I have ever returned something for an exchange. There were two problems.
First, each of the 4 plastic trays that hold the discs had a plastic protrusion sticking up that left scratches on the discs. The protrusion was on the same place on all 4 trays, which suggests that this may have been an intentional part of the design, although I can't imagine why. I'm hoping that my second set won't have these.
Secondly, some of the cartoons locked up and wouldn't play, although I don't know if that's because of the scratches, or if the digital data was defective.
My player is a Panasonic DVD A-120.
Anyway, this poll contains two seperate questions, so there are four possible answers.
Question 1: Do your plastic trays have little things sticking up on them?
Question 2: Did you have trouble playing the first set of discs that you bought, to the point that you felt it justified an exchange?

Thanks for your response.
I don't know if the scratches are actually what's causing the playback problems. I have a different DVD, with a movie on it, that has some scratches, but the disc plays perfectly.
Perhaps the playback problems with my Golden Collection have to do with defects in the data, and not the scratches.
Still, I think the design of the plastic trays is absolutely ridiculous. There is no reason to have those raised plastic protrusions.

I can't even tell what you're talking about. Maybe you should post a picture.

Whats he is talking about is the case to hold the DVDs inare scratching the DVDs. Besides, he doesn't need to post a pic, because it is also imaginable.

My plastic holders each have a tiny nub in the 12 o'clock position about half way between the center and the edge. It doesn't scratch the disks. I've had no problem playing any of the disks.

That's exactly what my first set was like. Except mine are capable of scratching the discs.
Thanks for verifying the existence of the nubs.

What I mean is my plastic holder is so blemish free that I don't even know where to look I don't know whether you are talking about something supposed to be there, or an injection point flash or what.

The description in post #6 is a better description than I ever could have said. If you don't see the things on your packaging, then you don't have them. Because if you did have them, it would be obvious.
The things are definitely NOT supposed to be there, becasue they serve no purpose other than to potentially scratch the discs.

I recieved my second set of discs. It also has the little plastic things in the disc trays. But the discs are not scratched.
However, I'm having the same playback problems as before. I guess maybe there's a compatibility problem with my Panasonic DVD A-120 player and this DVD release. Or, maybe there was a batch of defective discs.
I returned the second set of discs for a refund. I don't plan to buy the discs again until after I buy my next DVD player, and I don't plan on doing that for a long time, because my current player works with my other discs.
I was planning to buy the Jonny Quest boxed set in May, but now, I think I'll wait until after I replace my DVD player, because I worry that my current DVD player would probably have the same problems with the Quest set as with the Looney set, because I think the two sets are likely made at the same manufacturing plant.
Thanks to everyone who responded to my poll and who posted in this thread. I appreciate your feedback.
And since I did answer my own poll, I see that I'm the only one who had to return a set. I'm glad that no one else had to return it.
