I am surprised nobody made the weekly Enterprise thread yet. Or is that a sign we're running out of steam to talk about it? I thought tonight's episode certainly delivered quite a bit and provided quite a bit to talk about.
I will just start off that I really enjoyed this one on many levels, and I liked it better than last week's episode. First we get to see some great realities that they are in space, which you rarely see on Star Trek. Examples of this included the gravity giving out (pretty cool scene), the temperature drops on the other decks, Tripp's requirement to spend three hours at a time between the two envirionments in that chamber also said alot about them being in space and in an alien envirionment. Something always bothered me on past Star Trek series when the crew could walk onto any ship any time anywhere and find oxygen and an environment that suited them. (on a side note, I've written a handful of Star Trek stories myself where these constantly ideal situations don't exist all the time.) The fact that the creators of this show took time and care to make a bit more realistic first contact situation really impressed me.
As for the plot and the comedy in this episode, it wasn't overkill by any means. In fact, it was reminiscent of classic Trek episodes that were also comedies, and I felt the chemestry worked real well in this episode. The only thing I didn't care for was T'Pol's virtual mocking of Tripp as he stated emphatically that he didn't have relations with that woman. And did we ever find out how he got pregnant? Was it thru that grandual bowl exclusively? I guess we were going to find out she did it to him while he was sleeping. Of course, I got the feeling that when she was giving him their version of water, when her fingers gave of those soft static electric bolts across his lips, I imagined he felt it was something like being kissed. Perhaps these aliens experience intamacy and breeding thru ways not exclusively thru touch, an intersting concept.
Another thing I kinda wondered about...the Klingon said he could see his house from there? HOUSE? I don't know about you, but I don't picture a Klingon using a term like "house." House just sounds too...I dunno...friendly and warm. If he had said "home" or "dwelling" or something along those lines, I think I could have swallowed that scene a little better.
Overall, a great episode. A-
