Superman will be reaching two milestones in 2002. First, the Adventures of Superman title will reach issue #600, the third title in American comics to reach that milestone. Also, he'll hit the digital age when the three part Superman: The Animated Series episodes World's Finest hits DVD in early/mid 2002.

WB announced last night in a WB Home Video/DVD Chat Event that if response behind the release of The Superman/Batman Movie: World's Finest is large enough, then more episodes will be released. The VHS of the three part episodes, released as a movie with episodes edited togethor, has been a hot seller and performed very well when initially released. Copie sof the VHS are stil lsold to this date, but the demand has since gone down when the video was released more than three years ago. Also, WB also said they would be intereste din releasing a new cut of Superman 2 only if Richard Donner was involved. Although recutting and redoing Superman 2 would be an expensive endevor and they likely won't proceed.

Now, in comic news, Superman is turning the big 6-0-0. Comic Newsarama recently had a chance to talk to Superman editor Eddie Berganza and Joe Casey about th eupcoming milestone story. According to editor Eddie Berganza, the lead story deals with a criminal mastermind appearing in Metropolis, which forces Superman to confront Lex Luthor "in a very different manner than we're used to, and that's saying a lot considering how he's had to deal with him lately as President."

"And being the President has something to do with the turn for Luthor because it's not all it's cracked up to be, as we're finding out in the real world," explained the editor. "The thing that's great about Joe [Casey] is that he's interesting in dissecting the relationships of characters, and while #600 will have some spectacle, it boils down to what makes Superman and Lex who they are, and why they will never be friends."

"The story is an exploration of the Superman-Luthor relationship," added Casey. "Lex has an experience that unleashes a side of him he never knew he had. By the end of the story, he's got an all-new reason to hate Superman (as though he didn't have enough reasons already…)"
