OMG PENNY IS LIKE A TOTAL HOTTIE

P.S. That guy that was selling the coffee and such at the thing was one of those "We're just people too" people

Edit: I'm gonna be editing a LOT today :(. Something tells me Oh Lordy became the new catchphrase. Woody Allen was refrenced OMG.

Now a review.

My only problem with this ENTIRE episode was the fact I wanted Jason and Penny to keep going out as so we could keep some continuity and Jason would have a chick to keep him company.I found Mcguick having Mellisa cheat for him and continuisly go too fast was rather funny but it wasn't as good as when Mcguick was acting out the car crash. Penny was an intresting character without being a tad too intresting for her own good and as stated above was a total babe : O. Ok maybe I had a few more problems listed below.

Positives: Jason's constant love trips,Paula (My favorite of her moments),Lynch (My favorite of his moments too :(),Mcguick and his driving classes, Brendon's constant indifference to Penny.

Negatives: Jason and Penny's lack of involvement (I didn't find it that hilarious at all.=( ),Brendon's movie lasting so shortly and not all that amusing.

Final Grade: A

LANDSTANDER YOU DAMN SURE PUT THIS REVIEW UP! OR ELSE >:O>:O>:O

One of the better episodes of the season. Although still not really that "laugh out loud" funny. Hopefully, Home Movies stays on track from now on. :)

You know Melissa is really a great character, I really liked her interaction with McGurk who was great in this episode. I loved the speech about learning and studying being a form of cheating, and well wow just wow this is one of the best episodes of the season... the whole thing was great. Brendon was great pretending to be Woody Allen.

Wow that was great. As good as "Bye Bye Greasy", in my opinion. All the plots tied together at the end, and every character was at the top of their game. Paula even though she didn't have a big part was as well. Mr. Lynch, Walter, and Perry were the best, though. All in all, a superb episode, hope the rest are this good.

A huge step up from last week's episode. There weren't too many jokes that really made me laugh out loud, but it was still an awesome episode with some good moments. Melissa had a great part in this episode, too. I give it an 8/10.

Penny is soooo dreamy. <3

I dunno, this episode is definetly one of my top favorite Home Movies episodes ever. It pretty much covered all the characters, it was funny....it was funny, it was interesting, it was funny.

Oh, and it had Walter and Perry, what more could it need? :D

"Those *****es Tried to Cheat Me" was...

Every attempt at a review thus far has been insipid and idiotic, all that needs to be said is that this episode was damned funny.

***** out of *****

Heh, I bet this piece of crap doesn't make Landster's capsules.

That was a really funny episode! I haven't laughed out loud so much at an episode of HM in a while. My favorite parts- McGuirk pretending to crash into a gas station, Brendon's conversation with Paula and Melissa's breakdown in the car about cheating. All the stories were interwoven nicely too. It would have been nice to see more of the movie, but with an episode this funny, I can forgive them.

For the record I loved this episode. All of the storylines were good on their own, everyone was in character, all connected nicely with the "cheating" connection, and most of it was hilarious (best part: McGuirk fake crashes into a gas station). Either this or Greasy is the best of this season.

RANKINGS SO FAR:
Bye Bye Greasy > Those *****es Tried To Cheat Me > Everyone's Entitled To My Opinion > Psycho Delicate > Curses > Wizard's Baker > Camp > Honkey Magoo > Heart Smashers

Coulda done with a little less Walter and Perry (Seriously, guys. Joke's tired) but the whole David Lynch vibe the ep had going made up for it, and unlike last week this didn't feel like the work of Satan. C

That sounds gross, uncomfortable, and grounds for some kind of prosecution.

That sounds gross, uncomfortable, and grounds for some kind of prosecution.Michael Jackson says, "HAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!"

I didn't really even mind Honkey Magoo too much (not great, but I didn't hate it, either), but this was perfect. Well, not perfect, but pretty damn good.

Watching it again (I love the repeats), one of the things I overlooked when looking back at the episode was the exchange between McGuirk and the cop. Great stuff.

"I don't remember ordering a male stripper."

There was a theme in this episode so there will be a theme as well in my "Those *****es Tried to Cheat Me" Review:

So like it comes out like that Jason like has this like crush on like this girl, named Penny, but like he's like in that awkward getting to know her phase aka "Stalking". He like tries to ask Brendon for like help, but like Brendon is like "I dunno" and like Brendon ends up cheating on like the test, and like passes with like flying colors so like these guys catch on to his like cheat and like decide to blackmail Brendon.. Meanwhile McGuirk gets like a ticket for speeding, and like gets his license suspended so he has to like take driving school and like he's having trouble so he like asks Melissa to like cheat for him and pretend to be like his daughter.. Brendon then like decides to study, and like the kids end up getting caught and get detention.. Meanwhile Penny like thinks Brendon likes her, so then Jason thinks like Brendon stole his girl and is all upset, and tries to kill Brendon but like McGuirk crashes his car to like avoid them and like Jason meets like Penny but then like he decides to break up with Penny, sorta like the grass ain't always greener on the other side.. And like that's it.. I like give this episode an A-.

Great episode. The intro to this ep really set up each thread well, I think. Each storyline was funny and interacted together nicely. Found myself laughing a lot this episode. The music this episode was interesting and used nicely. Definetely a favorite from this season.

That was funny, great even! It could've been funnier if Penny was drawn extremely pretty, giving a damn good reason for Jason liking her. (he's always fallen for babes on the show [Nurse Kirkman, chick in improv seminar])...but, then the Brendon plot wouldn't work. (it sounded like it would end up an entire different direction because of the grade difference, but seemed like she didn't care, seemed like she was happy that anyone liked her at all!)

But, Jason's obsession is so hilarious, because I could relate, since that's where I was at a few years ago. Just stalking a pretty girl, and addicted to thinking about her. Good ol' days...before having a girlfriend... I miss those days.

Coincidence about McGuirk's traffic school...my cousin is here for his spring break, and I'm teachin' him how to drive! We did the "invisible car" thing yesterday, but it didn't end up with him driving into a gas station and creating an atomic BOMB! :D So funny. Melissa helping McGuirk cheat and then freaking out has been done a little before (same reactions)...though it was funny.

Then comes the final plot (which seemed like a tiny subplot among all three, but with three in 22 minutes, what can you do?)...Brendon being blackmailed by Walter, Perry and Junior made NO ABSOLUTE SENSE. What could they blackmail him WITH?! The answers? They have no exact proof! So Brendon should've never been worried in the first place. But, besides that, Walter & Perry acting sneaky, mean and evil was extremely out of place and embarressing looking. (seemed like they did not know what do to with it at all [in other words, time to get a few more supporting kid characters, HM])

Overall, it's a great/good episode, the general theme having been done before last season, but better than last week's crapfest for sure. A-

(Please put this on your site Landstander...c'mon! C'mon!)...

Highlights of "Those *****es Tried To Cheat Me" included McGuirk and the cop, Jason saying he Brendon's friend, then getting angry , Brendon as Woody Allen, and the whole subplot of McGuirk in traffic school.

Out of 5, i give it 4.

Also, that was Mary Rakjub (Chloe from 24) as the VA of Penny.

This was so funny. Walter and Perry acting evil was great as was Lynch's taunts at them and Junior when they failed. McGuirk and the male stripper line was funny as was his performance in traffic school. Crashing his imaginary car into a gas station was hilarious. I also loved Melissa going insane from cheating. After Walter and Perry she's my fave. I loved the conversation about cheating and "friends" between Brenden and Paula. She just doesn't seem too care too much does she? Wouldn't it be awesome to have a mom like that? Jason's stalking of Penny was funny as was his continually spitting on Brenden. "Brenden you're my best friend. I hate you!" It was funny that he and Penny broke up after a few seconds. It was just so ambivelant in the best Home Movies fashion. Brendan as Woody Allen had me rolling on the floor. This was an awesome episode. *****

So in conclusion, good one, not the best of the season, but good. I felt like they were doing it too much like a fairy tale. McGuirk in driving school was fun. I wish we could of had some more comedy from the lifeguard.
The music was great. I knew it would be a fun episode when the paper falls. The scene where Brendon was confronted by Junior, Walter & Perry was a little too odd. BTW, I hope they never team Junior with Walter & Perry again.
Jason stalking Penny could've been funnier. A little more of him watching her, you know. Melissa's cheating scenes were short, but funny. Probably the best scene is where she reveals they've been cheating while Brendon and Jason fight in the climax.
My positives were Brendon, Jason, McGuirk driving the car (real and fake), The music
My negatives were NO PAULA (pratically), Penny, Junior, Walter & Perry, too strange of a design
Grade: A-

Not part of review, sorry. Anyone know where to get mp3s of the music from this episode?

A lot of people complain about the lack of a movie, but this whole episode is the most movie-like of any Home Movies. There are a lot of new camera angles and music. Plus Brendon's impression of Woody Allen was enough short film for me.

I get the distinct feeling that the exchange between Brendon, Junior Addleburg, Walter, and Perry was a reference to something. But damn me, I can't place it.

(best part: McGuirk fake crashes into a gas station).agreed.

I loved this episode. The Woody Allen Brendon, W+P and Jr. black m...ailing Brendon, Mr. Lynch, McGuirk's motor skills (they are similar to mine), the weird DMV guy, the music, Melissa and McGurik, the brendon vs. Jason scene. The whole episode was great.

Penny was kind of freaky. I loved how she ran into the lockers, though.

crazy 5th graders.

Perry: Oh..my..god, walter, im...falling...asleep
Walter: Oh...my..god, Perry, I'M falling asleep....too....dream of me!

Since I'm a stupid little blonde idiot, i rewound the tape and started it at the second half at first, so I was really confused when the c...redits started rolling way to early. the i though, maybe the *****es are trying to cheat us and then half why through the c...redits they'd stop and be like...hah. cheated or something.

McGuirk's B-day: 4/1/65
McGurik's License Expires: 4/1/88. i thought they'd catch him on that. ohhh well.

Oh Lordy, looks like I found a new favorite this season. The entire episode was flat out HYSTERICAL. The Jason/Penny story was funny, but Brendon's paranoia about cheating, and Walter, Perry, and Junior (in an evil twist) trying to take advantage of him was brilliant. But both of these stories pale in comparison compared to McGuirk at driving school. I kept laughing at the first scene, and McGuirk explaining the car crash for about an hour after it happened, it was THAT funny. The story stayed great when Melissa got thrown into the mix as McGuirk's daughter, Tinkerbell. It's nice to see Melissa get some good roles. This episode is an instant classic.

5/5
