Just as Kevin Kay had stated in a press release last fall, Ren & Stimpy have returned to Spike. But instead of going for "Adult Party Cartoon," they have wisely decided to go for the classics instead. These are the offical airdate listings right from Spike's own site ("Stimpy's Big Day"/"The Big Shot" has already aired this past Monday):

Yes, "Monkey See, Monkey Don't," "The Great Outdoors," "The Cat that Laid the Golden Hairball," "To Salve or Salve Not," and "A Yard Too Far" are indeed Games episodes.

Yes, they're airing more and more Games episodes (which I think is an incredibly huge mistake).
In other news, "Adult Party Cartoon" is now scheduled to make a come back in July. "Naked Beach Frenzy" will debut on July 1st, "Altuists" on the 8th, "Stimpy's Pregnant" on the 15th and "Life Sucks" on the 22nd.

Wasn't that the plot of the original pilot though?
I'm looking foward to the new "Classics" episodes though ... Finally, something on cable TV that's worth watching!

Thanks for the alert, Pietro. Now I have a second chance to catch the "classics" I missed the first time around. I don't mind seeing the Games episodes in the mix (even if most of them aren't very good). If they didn't show those episodes, they would be running the same 13 or so Spumco episodes to death. Besides, Spike now seems to be the only source for any R&S. They don't air on the Nicktoons channel anymore.

Actually, I think it's a good move. There's a limited number of original Spumco episodes to show, so better to see the Games episodes than to see repeats of the same Spumco eps over and over and over. Also, while most of the Spumco devotees tend to look upon the Games R&S episodes as complete and utter crap, I've found some of them to be pretty good. True, a lot of them are vastly inferior, but some are quite enjoyable. I find the aforementioned Ren's Pecs and An Abe Divided, for example, to be pretty good, as well as some other Games installments like Ol' Blue Nose, I Love Chicken and Ren's Bitter Half. And I love some of the earliest Games episodes, which I believe had some Spumco content (at least via storyboards, layouts, etc), like The Cat That Laid the Golden Hairball and Stimpy's Cartoon.
Another reason why it's a good thing Spike is airing the Games episodes: if this second season of Adult Party Cartoon is anything like the first season was, they'll need as many classic R&S episodes as they can get, to fill the inevitable holes in their schedule. (I mean, I realize there were censorship issues with Naked Beach Party, but come on! I don't think there needed to be as many delays as there were. I'm looking forward to the new season of APC, but I'm not holding my breath that all those episodes will air on time. Hopefully, however, I'll be proven wrong....)

Actually, I must agree with Jon and Mike.
If Spike doesn't air the Games stuff - nobody will (no "Ren's Brain" and "Ren's Bitter Half") and it'd get annoying if the same few episodes were played over and over so...

That's good to hear. I only managed to see a few of the "classic" Ren and Stimpy episodes on Spike TV. I like some of the Games Episodes, and I don't think that all of them are rubbish. Although the John K. episodes are much superior to them, I wouldn't mind seeing the Games episodes in the bunch.
I didn't know that R&S APC was still on. I thought it was cancelled. I only saw a few episodes, and they were okay. A bit too gross for me, though. R&S has the distinction of being one of the very few cartoons I enjoy that has a great deal of gross humor. And it's one of my favorite cartoons, ever.
Well, my timer is gonna run once again for these cartoons! I hope that they don't have so many damn commercials, though. And I hated when they cut stuff such as "Log" sequences for more time for friggin' commercials.:(

I am. Why? Because I'm one of those people who likes to see a good trainwreck once in a while. Since "Onward and Upward" (the first episode where R&S move into a bar) was the first trainwreck I saw, I became addicted. I want to see how low this show will go until it hits rock bottom (not to say that I hate the show, but I like the John K. eps on Nickelodeon and some of the Games ones).
Stimpy getting pregnant.. How sick can people get? Ren & Stimpy is a comedy show, seeing Stimpy get pregnant is NOT FUNNY. I know the show is gross, but it shouldn't go that far. I liked it better when the farthest they went was just toilet humor, and weird characters. Not having Ren & Stimpy gay and such.
John K. has destroyed his own show. They should've gotten Games to do APC..

One quick correction... Altruists is a two parter, and Life Sucks is not on the schedule. We are hoping to do that as a TV movie once these three are completed.

Like that would have been any better. And who freakin' cares if Johnny boy destroyed his own show. At least he got it back and his doing it his way instead of how others want it. I don't know if it's an improvement or not, but if Games did the APC, you'd be seeing a whole lot worse.

I think Circus Midgets is quite good. Here are all the Games episodes off the top of my head that I think are enjoyable (I only count third season and on as Games eps): Yard Too Far, Salve and Salve Not, Stimpy's Cartoon Show, Ren's Bitter Half, Lair of the Lummox, Egg Yolkeo, Double Header, Reverend Jack, Abe Divided, Eat My Cookies, Powered Toastman vs. Waffle Woman, Hard Day's Luck, Ren's Brain, Who's Stupid Now, and My Shiny Friend. These all have some decent gags even if they fall short of the quality of the Spumco episodes. Jerry the Bellybutton Elf, Ren's Retirement and Ren Needs Help kinda suck but they have some moments that are worth seeing if not the whole cartoon. The rest of the Games eps are disposable.

What is Spike?
Spike TV is one of the networks that those of us with Dish Network will no longer receive because Viacom is trying to bully Dish into paying more to carry CBS affiliates.
Good one, Viacom.

That isn't a fair assessment. TNN was a rerun network. As SpikeTV, it's transitioning to being a first run network. In order to create first run content, it has to up its rate to the affiliates.

Well no offense to the fine quasi-nude original programming and endless repeats of "Blind Date," but Spike TV is hardly in any position to throw its weight around. That would be like if the WE network started overcharging.
Besides, nobody said Spike TV rates were being inflated. Viacom is overcharging Dish Network to carry fifteen CBS affiliates (the fifteen that are completely owned by Viacom). The reason the Viacom cable channels will be affected is because Viacom has lumped those fifteen CBS affiliates into the same contract. For Dish Network to continue to carry MTV or Nickelodeon or whatever, they would have to pay unreasonably high charges for those fifteen CBS stations.
So to sum up, Viacom is trying to price-gouge Dish Network by holding hostage cable stations they know Dish's customers like. It's extortion.
You're right, Steve, it isn't fair at all.

Spike TV is safe on Dish Network for now. It and CMT are under a different contract. Though Viacom wants to work both into the contract with all their other networks. Also looks like TV Land is in a different contract as well. Viacom has been lieing to viewers with the scrolls and spots.

Yeah, how weird is that? I had a feeling Spike TV wouldn't be affected after all right after my first post about it, simply because I was hard-pressed to find a second report including the network in the list (even though it is a Viacom network).
But TV Land I can't figure out. I know that network was originally on the possible chopping block. No doubt all the Viacom contracts were examined more thoroughly or something.
So, for those of you keeping track, the Viacom networks that Dish was forced to drop are MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, Comedy Central, BET, MTV2, Noggin, Nickelodeon GAS, and VH1 Classic.
Viacom has been lieing to viewers with the scrolls and spots.
Don't get me started on that crawl of theirs. "Dish Network has threatened to take away channels..." Either Viacom thinks people are really stupid or they think people will side with them if they can't watch shows in which dim celebrities get married.

Last year, Spike snipped scenes from "In the Army" where R&S get shots and haircuts. They did the cut for timing.

Mar 24 2004 2:00AM - Ren's Retirement
Mar 24 2004 2:30AM - Jerry the Bellybutton Elf/Road Apples
IMO, these are probably some of Games' weaker entries. I never really liked "Retirement" (R&S get buried alive) or "Apples" (R&S drinking skunk milk and sleeping with Wilbur Cobb). But I did like the psychedelic sequence in "Bellybutton Elf."
I wonder where "Lair of the Lummox" is?

I actually thought ROAD APPLES had a few funny scenes ... Like Ren getting hit by the car and turning into real roadkill ("Convincing twitching, Ren!") and the ending with the two and Wilbur Cobb getting kicked out of the trailer, just in case they have an accident ("The joke's on them! I ALREADY WET THE BED!!!").

More Showings!:
Mar 25 2004 2:00AM - Hard Time for Haggis
Mar 25 2004 2:30AM - Eat My Cookies/Ren's Bitter Half
I have never seen "Haggis" but from what I've heard, it's good (although R&S are hardly even in it). "Bitter Half" is probably one of Games' best R&S efforts next to "Lair of the Lummox." "Eat My Cookies" - I never really cared much for that one - but the ending was kinda funny, so...
Also, Spike is still running ads through the 11-minute R&S shorts ("Dog Show" had precisely three commerical breaks). On a more positive note, I also caught the end of "The Big Shot!" last night and happened to notice that they ran a "What'll We Do Til Then?" segment at the end with "Gritty Kitty."

That's one of the worse R & S's I have ever seen. Billy west's Ren was really awful here.
"Mar 25 2004 2:00AM - Hard Time for Haggis"
I like Alan Young but I didn't like the Haggis character. Nothing funny there.
One funny Post-Spumco moment was forgot the episode but Ren and Stimpy go to some lodge thing and Ren says something to the extent of "We've been doing this for 53 years."
I wouldn't mind seeing "Friend In My Face" again, too.

I recorded Sunday's showing of "Dog Show" and Ren and Stimpy hugging and saying "Oooh, joy!" when George wins was intact. After the cartoon, it went right to the show's end credits and not a commercial break. That's how it aired on DirecTV.
