In my Tacoma newspaper there's an article on June Bugs. The article's entitled, Bunny ban less about dollars and cents than sensibilities. Here's what they wrote in the paper. I can't right all of it. Probably don't have enought time.
"For weeks, Cartoon Nework has been touting its upcoming June Bugs event featuring a marathon Bugs Bunny retrospective.
Then, someone inside AOL got sqeamish about the rabbit's past work. 12 cartoons were eliminated from linup. Among those axed are "Any Bonds Today?" werin Bugs parodies Al Jolson doing blackface; "Frigid Hare" which depicts a buck-toothed eskimo; and "All This and Rabbit Stew" in which Bugs distracts a black hunter with a pair of dice.
CN had intended to show these episodes with a disclaimer: "CN does not endorse the use of these slurs. These vintage cartoons are presented as a time which they were created and are presented for historical value."
However, WB made CN delete the episodes completely.
Oh, brudder.
It would be one thing if companies really care about hurting feelings or being socially aware. It would still be terribly misguided whitewashing of history, let's pretend this sort of thing never happened."
Well, that's the first half. I'll post the second half later. Watta ya think?
