If CN ever airs Return of the Joker, you think they'll air it as a "special edition" containing the unedited cut?

I doubt it. if they did, it'd be on Adult Swim....

Which I wouldn't mind..heh.

Do you think they'd be allowed, DG? That's my big question. If so, I don't see why not, since ROTJ really doesn't seem that extreme compared to other CN programming. Since ROTJ was only released in its cut form, I've been thinking that maybe that's the only version that could be allowed to be seen. I'm hoping that's not the case, though.

I think they could. If I remember correctly part of the reason the cuts to RotJ were ordered was because the uncut version could never be shown on kidsWB. And we all know that CN and kidsWB have very different standards.

At the very least they could show the uncut version with minimal editing.

Will they? Probably not. But could you imagine the ratings they would get if they showed the uneditted version? They'd be blown away with how successful it would be...

I doubt they'd show the original. They're a bunch of weenies. :p

If they did, they'd probably show it late like Cowboy Bebop, which is probably just as risky as ROTJ. But I just don't think that running ROTJ at midnight is likely.

I'm sure they'll show Return of the Joker in the future, but uncut? Maybe a couple years down the line, yes.

I am guessing that CN will stick with what WB has released offically to the public, which is the edited version.

But with the unedited coming in 2002...you think they may possible air both? Edited at an earlier slot like Toonami afternoon and then air the unedited during Midnight Run?

I think the unedited version should be considred the only version once it is out. The only reason I'd hang on to my first DVD is for the commentary and the other bonus features, which I doubt they will repeat on the second version, but you never do know. I don't think the cut scenes in ROTJ are so extreme that CN couldn't show it during normal hours.

i never thought they were extreme at all, especially when you compare it to other cn programing like cowboy bebop and gundam wing uncut, and even btas/tnba. think about it, (i hate to get into this again but hey), in over the edge the scene where babs falls to her death is very grim, in holiday knights joker shoots batman in the arm and they show it, in "its never to late", well, that whole episode was dark to the extreme, dealing with the mafia, drug trafficing, leg amputation....i mean, rotj is really not that bad.

imo i think there is a real possibility cn will air the uncut version now that its finally being released. who knows, maybe the wb will even encourage it to boost sales (dont forget the real reason for the cuts was because of gore and lieberman's ridiculous attack against hollywood inorder to gain votes). plus this is CN we are talking about, they look out for the fans, and i'm sure they jump at the chance to air rotj uncut. look how far out on a limb they go for us with all the stuff they air. i think it could happen.

That's true, most of the ROTJ cuts were well over the line, considering what aired on TNBA before. And really, some of the changes, like adding seat belts and cutting out "bat fart" was probably just some exec wanted to annoy people he saw as upstarts.

Still, since WB may actually release the darn thing uncut, it's possible CN may air it at some point too. After all, everyone here thought that Cowboy Bebop would never make it...

Very true. When comparing the original ROTJ to alot of the Toonami shows, it's easy to see that the vast majority of the edits were way above ridiculous. Hell, just look at the cut list! Over fifty cuts, and alot of them for really small things like dropping the word "kill" or "fart", which is so pointless.

And another thing, the gun shot wound in HOLIDAY KNIGHTS is a very good point. That's the first time I can remember seeing someone being shot onscreen in a Saturday morning cartoon with a real gun and bleeding real blood.

And that ep got ample air time.
