Hey Everyone! Name This Board!!

Hey folks,

WF Admin DG here. Me and my fellow mods have been discussing the name of this board recently, and we think it's time to maybe give it a change. Alter it a bit. With the changes coming to the JL and BB Boards, as well as other boards at TZ, we thought this was a perfect time to do this. A few suggestion we came up with were:

The AniGen Board
The Ani-Tainment Board
Animation/Community


And that's basically it. Pretty sad, eh? That's when we realized that we should ask you folks - the posters! You can pick the favorite our our three meager suggestions, or come up with your own. Then, myself and the fellow mods will pick which one we think is the best. We want to emphasize Animation, Entertainment, Current Events, and most importantly Community in the new name and at these boards.We'll only have this thread open for about 24 hours before we close it to choose the new name. We want to have it up by Wednesday, October 17th.

So start voting or start thinking of your own suggestions!

I've been calling it AniGen for a while now. And seeing as how i can't think of any original ideas, i'm sticking w/ it:D

AniGen is my vote too. Partly because it sounds nice, partly because it's shorter.

--we are kind of worried about the newbies. The name "AniGen" means something to us only because we know it's short for "Animation and General Topics." Newbies won't necessarily know that.

It's important, I think, to keep the name descriptive. The name, not the description that runs underneath it on the main forums page, is what people see, read and react to. If that name is unclear or confusing, it will be off-putting to new visitors.

"AniGen" may seem short and sweet, but all the other boards are named for specific shows. Newbies would assume AniGen is the same (perhaps an anime they've never heard of) and would avoid the place. Besides, the full name is more welcoming.

AniGen. Cuz when I first need help someone said to come here and I was looking for ever for the Ani-Gen board and I finally realized it was called Animation and General Topics.

I pretty much agree with Old Maid. AniGen is fine, but what about the newbies?

I was actually thinking the other day how perfect the name that this board has is. It's about animation and general topics. As a journalist that name really appeals to me because is very descriptive. Animation and General topics are exactly what we discuss on this board, why not leave it at that? I know it's not real flashy, but it's precise.

Officially, the Animation/Community board is what I support.

...but I'm thinking of throwing the my vote to "Talk and Balk about Anything Board." Or maybe "AnyTalk Board." :P

AniGen, because it sounds japanese and if we mention it to outsiders, they won't know what the hell you're talking about.

I always see this as a lounge - a place where all the Toonzone members can pop by from the favourite obsession (whether it be fan-fic, DVD's, Batman Beyond...) and just relax with a cup of orange juice (or if like me, a rather hot cup of tea) and just read the topical musings of fellow members... this board is no way near as tense as my favourite board - The Batman Beyond Board (where Terry and Bruce fans come to claim their hero as the best! :D ), so this is like a middle ground for everyone.

So I go for something classy, like 'The Animation Lounge', or even just 'The Lounge'...

But I won't fight against what ever changes are made, no siree! ;)

The Free-Form Forum sounds nice. It might not be very descriptive, but I like it.

I like The Animation Lounge! Personally, I'd avoid use of the name AniGen for the simple reason of newbies. But then again, we're not strictly Animation in this board, are we?

The Animation Lounge is a good name, but we talk about more than just animaiton. The General Lounge, perhaps? The Animation/Community Lounge? Hmmm...

My spin would be "Animation Lounge," with no "The". That way it is ambiguous between a place (a "lounge") and an act ("lounging around"). It evokes the spirit of the board: relaxed, free-form, a place to hang out while talking about cool stuff.

I do think that "Animation" should be in the title, though, to make it clear we are still mostly oriented toward toons. We're "Toons Plus," rather than just "Off Topic."

Animation Lounge isnt bad, but I dont think newbies are going to understand the double meaning behind "Lounge" which is why we're not going by AniGen in the first place, right? People are going to assume that all there is in here is all the "other" animation talk.

If we have it as just Animation Lounge, then newbies will think it's a place for discussing just animation when it's obviously not. Then again I can fix that by saying the topics are pretty much unlimited here. How can we tell newbies that this place is also for general discussion (telelviison, movies, etc) if the name is Animation Lounge. Lounge doesn't really tell us that geenral topics are allowed here, just that it's a relaxed enviroment.
