Hmm the chat havent been working lately. or is it because im using the java page.
can anyone help me use the mirc or tell me is it down?

Sadly, mIRC-X is dead (http://www.mircx.com/irc.html) due to sustained DDOS attacks. Some people just have to be asses and screw things up for everyone. :(

Actually, we did try moving to a new server...

Server studio64.yi.org on IRC, channel #adultswim. Not in IRC's server list, so you'll have to manually enter it in. Also, no Java applet...yet...

Minor point, you have to actually type in the new server address, I tried copying and pasting it into the field and it wouldn't accept the text. Stupid technology.

irc://studio64.yi.org/adultswim for those who use mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) and are too lazy to type in stuff.

For java chat go to http://www.dorksnet.org/index.php?page=java and type in "/join #adultswim" (no quotes).

To change your username use "/msg nickserv [YourName]"

To register your username use "/msg nickserv register [password] [email]" without the brackets filling in your respective info.

To login, use "/msg nickserv identify [password]"

To lock your name from other people using it before it can change their name use "/msg nickserv set kill quick" This locks your name while you are logged in.

All of these actions can be automated when if you're using a client like mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) or Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc/) by using the "perform" option(see your software's help file for info on this).

Any IRC client that properly follows the IRC protocol ought to connect to a proper IRC server, and X-Chat is no exception that. The only feature in mIRC missing from X-Chat is the "dccserver" feature, a mIRC-proprietary feature that is not part of the official IRC protocol (as defined by RFC 1459) (http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/rfc/); and, if you actually need this (which you wouldn't just to chat), it is available as a patch (read the X-Chat FAQ (http://xchat.org/faq/#q212) for details), if you're willing to manually patch the source and compile).
If you mean, will clicking on the link automagically open X-Chat, connect to the correct server, and join the proper channel; that's more a question of your browser than your XRC client, but you can always manually connect by first opening X-Chat, and then at the X-Chat command line typing:
/server studio64.yi.org
/join #adultswim
