Were there any comic series besides Secret Wars and Infinity Gauntlet where a bunch of Marvel characters teamed up?

There is also the Contest of Champions 1 & 2. These two story have the heros fighting against each other.

Howdy,
Well, there was Marvel Team-Up (http://www.spiderfan.org/comics/title/marvel_teamup.html), a title that ran for 13 years starting in 1972. Spider-Man and some other hero or heroes in the Marvel Universe would get entangled into a nice mess and have to work together to get out of it. Generally a huge pile of big, dumb fun.
There was also Marvel Two-in-One (http://users.pullman.com/oenglish/mtio/index.html), which was the same gimmick except starring the Thing instead of Spider-Man. Started in 1974 and ran for 100 issues.
If you're aiming BIGGER, you can get a bunch of story synopses, links, and reviews at the Unofficial Comics Crossover Index (http://members.tripod.com/~MitchellBrown/xover/index.html). The site covers both Marvel and DC crossovers, including the ones between the two companies. The site ran up to around 2001, where the site owner ended on The Last Laugh crossover for DC. Great site. In Googling for it, I just found the Crossover Comics Cavalcade (http://www.geocities.com/utherworld/crosscomix.html), which includes page scans and other fun stuff.
I'm also assuming that you know about JLA/Avengers, but just in case you haven't, issues 1-3 are on the stands still and #4 is due in March. If you can't find the single issues, Kurt Busiek has unofficially confirmed on his message board (http://www.activeimages.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=40311e717e67ffff;act=ST;f=7;t=45;st=130) that a book edition of the series is coming, with an introduction by the late great Julie Schwartz (probably making it worth the price of admission alone). It was, apparently, the last thing Julie Schwartz wrote.
