that"s not lust! i didn't say i wanted her body. fifi is a nice
char. who had the misfortune of being a skunk. i liked how
she threw that ungrateful, conceited male skunk out on his rump in the summer vacation special. she's strong and likeable. just ask hampton.

Boy, this REEKS of bad skunk puns. Anyway, Fifi La Fume is essentially Pepe Le Pew's double, except for the purple (?!) fur and the sex difference. Fifi's date in that special was a moviestar named "Johnny Pew", and he didn't like popcorn because "The unpopped kernels chip my caps".

Nothing at all wrong with liking Fifi. I love that little skunk myself and I'm in my twenties!
She's a genuinely charming and attractive young toon and who wouldn't be crazy about her?
I have over 1000 screen shots of her. Crazy? Er.... don't answer that.
And since the subject is cartoon crushes I'd like to point out that I think Shirley's lovely too.
Babs never appealed to me much though...

There's nothing wrong with liking toons... nothing at all.
But how did the two most attractive females in tv history end up in the one show, namely TTA?
Fifi and Shirley. ( Yes, I like Shirley. It's not really that strange is it? )
And that Amazing Three episode just made things worse for us fanboys you know. Cold showers aplenty methinks.
Maybe it was the animator's way of getting us to remain faithful fans eh?

finbarlafume

Actually, I never thought much of Minerva.
As someone else said, she's far too snotty. That and the fact that I think the animators made far too much of an effort to make her appear attractive and ultimately didn't achieve their goal. ( When you try too hard I think you overshoot the mark )
Fifi is far nicer, far more charming. And I love the purple and white colouration.
As for Lola... Well, a small role in one movie wasn't really enough to get to know the character methinks.

I've never had a crush on a cartoon character. There are some characters who I think are cutely designed, though.

Jack:D

kiddiesunshine
10-29-2001, 10:45 AM
I knew I wasn't the only one who liked these characters. Some of us cartoon watchers REALLY get involved with the characters and sometimes, we get crushes. I think it's great that we can look at the personality instead of the outer shell of someone and find them likeable.

finbarlafume
10-29-2001, 12:09 PM
Well said. I think the animators and writers should be very pleased at the fact that some fans have serious crushes on their characters. It proves that they've done their job well.
Look at Fifi in How I Spent My Vacation.
Who didn't want to cuddle her when Johnny upset her? You'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel sorry for her and want to make her happy.
The same goes for Shirley in Loon Lake.
Add their cute looks into the equation and you have the makings of a serious crush.

Singin' Stray Cat

I don't know if I've ever had a crush on a cartoon character - then again, I am a girl, so there's not much for me to choose from. However, there have been several instances where I've forgotten that what I'm watching is basically several frames of film moving incredibly fast - in other words, I've felt for a cartoon character just as I would a person. (That's when you know everyone involved in making an animated production has done a darn good job!)

Fifi getting led around by Johnny Pew is an excellent example. I felt just about everything she felt, from the eagerness to please at the beginning of "How I Spent My Vacation", to the part where she kicked his furry little behind clear out of the theater and into the arms of Elmyra. (Admit it, you wanted to cheer right along with the animated audience. ;) I know I did! )

Another good example would be the episode where Furrball gets into someone's house out of the rain, gets to play with the little white kitten, gets snubbed by the kitten's parents, gets kicked out by the people when they return home... remember that one? Remember the very end? Where Furrball offers the little homeless boy a can of tuna? I wasn't just crying at the end of that one. No, what I was doing is what southerners refer to as "bawling." :p All right, so I didn't make that much of a fuss, but I was very touched none the less.

And as a side note, to answer happyheathen's question from a few posts back... yes, I did have a crush on an actual human once, but he didn't like me, so that lasted about...oh, I'd say less than a day. Never had a crush since.

Are there any girls out there who've ever had a crush on a toon?
Any at all?
Anyone who liked Pepe or Buster or even Hamton?

Or is toon infatuation mainly a male thing?

Lonestarr

Take heart, kiddiesunshine. I, too, have (had) a crush on Fifi. And why not? Thinking back to the TTA ep "Love Stinks" (check out the title card and the close-up of Fifi's eyes), it can't be helped; she's a babe. And recently, I've stumbled onto some interesting fanart that confirms that we are not alone. Even while the show was on, I'm sure the writers realized this (i.e. Fifi's design in "Just-Us League of Supertoons").

I have crushes on lots of women, animated and human. Crushes are a part of life, and...where was I going with this? Oh, yes, they're nothing to be ashamed of.

Noting Lonestarr's Beetlejuice sig...I have a wee crush on Winona Ryder (I'll watch her in anything)...and on her animated counterpart, voiced by Alyson Court. I will also admit to having feelings for Daria Morgendorffer. Unfortunately in my actual relationships, I've gotten involved with a couple of Quinns.... :(

You don't have to grow out of toon crushes you know.
I've been obsessed with Fifi for seven years now and it's showing no sign of running out of steam. ( That could be taken as a bad thing though )
She is, to put it mildly, totally unique.
Looks like I'm suffering from a terminal case of Fanboy drooler syndrome... but I take solace in the fact that I'm not the only one.

Well, maybe Barky Marky, or Arnold...being dogs and all. (Has anyone ever actually seen a dog relieve themselves on a fire hydrant? That joke was an old Tex Avery standard, but I can't say I've ever seen any of mine do it...though I had one who'd do hell to the neighbor's rose bushes.)
What about that blender from the Love Conection parody in the "My Date With Elmyra" ep? I guess Gogo dumped her. Maybe she gave him the go-around to many times.... ;)
