View Full Version : EEEEEEEE!!! **squeals in glee**
Cartoon Network is airing Mansion Cat!!! I've never seen this one before, but heard of it when Boomerang aired it! Whats the background on this one?
**squeals in delight** :D
Well - after having seen it for the first time I have to say it wasnt bad. Wasnt what I was expecting at all, but not really bad.
It reminded me a lot of the Gene Dietch T&J's - the minimalist backgrounds and facial expressions and whatnot. The gags were pretty low key and not the usual violent fare you expect from T&J - but I did love the bit where the lawnmower shaved off half a hill. :)
Overall it wasnt the best T&J short I've seen (I probably wont drape it in fanfare), but its decent and probably better than the Filmation T&J shorts which were the last ones done with the Adult T&J I think. I can barely remember what those were like, though the themesong was ingrained into my head when I was small. :)
It felt like it had the comic pacing of a Tom And Jerry Kids short(without all the added extra fluff the TJK had). That could be a good or bad thing, but it was just a much slower pace. You can really see the differences between this style and the other styles of T&J. For example - the Cat Above And the Mouse Below by Chuck Jones is airing right now, adn it feels like it has a faster set pace to it sorta. But like I said, reminded me a _LOT_ of the Gene Deitch era T&J stuff.
This is off topic - but WERE there any good Filmation T&J shorts? I do remember that they turned Tom and Jerry into bosom buddies in that version and gave Jerry the bowtie seen in TJK.And I know Cartoon Network USED to air Hold That pose a long time ago. But I can barely remember any of the other filmation T&J shorts.
Comments?

This was produced by Cartoon Network Studios (formerly "Hanna-Barbera" Studios) last year. Joe Barbera himself was the voice of Tom's owner (in the cartoon, his shoes said "JB"). And if you watch carefully, you can see old photographs of Bill and Joe gracing the walls of the mansion!
I really like this cartoon overall!

That wasn't the Filmation version. That was done by Hanna-Barbera in "The Tom and Jerry/Grape Ape Show" in 1975. T&J were their old violent selves in the Filmation version; I remember a scene used in the end credits where Jerry shaved fur off Tom's back with a toy airplane.

I know I am special company when somebody else found that Filmation TOM AND JERRY theme song stuck forever in their heads -- I still whistle it from time to time.
I remember those T&J's well; Droopy and The Wolf were diluted into typical 70s bozos, talking more than moving and thoroughly unmemorable. But the T&J's were not TOO bad, and the animation was rather adventurous for Filmation. Thet were certainly more watchable than the hideous Hanna-Barbera ones.
