View Full Version : About that 'We Don't Like You' forum... (actually ON topic!)

Gentlepersons -

It has been suggested (and endorsed) that a new forum called 'We Don't Like You' be added to the Toon Zone site.

(See the 'xAzNrKx banned' thread for background)

The idea is to provide a forum in which those members banned from the other forums would be able to rant and flame to their hearts' content - i.e. the rules regarding nastiness would be considerably looser on the proposed forum than on the others.

As adding such a forum would require exactly ZERO effort on my part, I move that he who first mentioned the title (an admin who shall remain anonymous) create said board.

Anyone care to Second the Motion, and move for a general vote?

(I love chaos:D )

Well, if enough people want it, I'd consider going through the hassle. I would need at least 25 or 30 "yea" votes though. Also, should this board be seen by all, so we can point and laugh at the banned users? Or shoud it exist only for them, so we can exile them there and wash or hands of them entirely (sorta like the Phantom Zone)?

Well, the only reason I might want it is if I could torture them by using it more than they would enjoy it. And I think that they would enjoy such a forum more than I could torture them by visiting it and bothering them, and even if that wasn't the case, they would probably stop visiting the forum once I was able to begin the torment. So I would have to vote for a "no" on this one.

I'm a mean widdle kid, ain't I, folks?

Actually, I just thought of another idea I once had. Instead of banning a troublemaker, I'd make them "invisible". Nobody would be able to see any of their posts. They'd go nuts trying to figure out why everyone was ignoring them. Since trolls are starved for attention, it would really screw with their minds. Unfortunately, the current forum software doesn't have an "invisible" mode, but it would be a great feature for the next version.

LOL! Now THAT would be hilarious

Cruel as heck, but hilarious ^___^

How about turning it into a 'Free-For-All' forum - ANYONE could post (aka pick a fight, and watch the fun), but, for the banned, this would be the ONLY forum accessible (come on, wouldn't you just LOVE to tweak these twits?)

the only rules:

no vulgarity (the banned words, reference to sexual activities, others?)

no diclosing personal identification (true name, location, email addresses other than those on the Toon Zone database)

This might be a good forum for subjects CERTAIN to offend someone or other - rule: If you go there, you don't get to claim offense - gloves are off - if you can't accept that premise, please do not view this forum

p.s. what is 'Phantom Zone'? have yet to hear of it

I say no to any of this stuff. Yeah, in the event the banned users may not wreck havoc in the other forums, but do we really need a board like that?! It may be funny, yes, but we'd be no better than them in laughing at them, picking on them, and generally making the forum a more unhappier place-like they did to us before the ban.

Yeah, yeah, I'm just not that kinda guy to make them miserable, forget the whole thing and move on when they're banned is my policy...:o

If people are banned, they're banned. That should be the end of it. I really don't see the point in this. Surely there's enough unpleasantness in the world already without giving people a forum to revile each other. Are cartoon fans really a cut above the herds of vitriolic and intolerant sci-fi fans? Let's prove we are. No "exiles" forums, please.

I agree. If anyone feels the need to further dis or make fun of ex-members, they could always do so within the context of their postings, though even THAT seems like a waste of time. Let the banned members remain banned. Let's not reward them for behavior that was deemed offensive enough to get them banned in the first place.

A "banned user" forum would really be unnecessary. However, I do think there ought to be a board where people can discuss things that don't fit on the boards, a "this sucks" board where people can gripe about anything they don't like, even other posters. That way, users who are annoying people can go to that board and discuss their status, or state their case, whatever. People can discuss personal grievances with one another over there, because I think a lot of trouble can arise when people get their toes stepped on and don't get the chance to talk about it. In fact, why don't we call it "do you Wanna Take This Outside"? forum, where a moderator can tell them to go if there is a fight between posters. However, if someone is banned from the forums I think they need to be gone, that's that.

There might be some perverse fun in having a board for banned posters. On the other hand, it's probably not a good idea.

Couple of things. Abusing trolls on such a board would backfire. Most of the trolling types would actually be quite entertained by such responses. It gives them negative attention they so crave. And that would ruin the fun of the good posters trying to abuse them.

Also, If they get a place where they're WELCOME to go, even for flaming, it would spoil their whole reason to even bother: to barge in where they don't belong. Then they wouldn't go there, and make it virtually empty.

how about a 'Free-for-All' board - say anything about anything/anyone, forget (most) of the 'be nice' rules

I think the word for this is "Usenet"

--it'd be better to just have a bulletin board of banned posters and why they got banned available. Sort of like public stocks--we walk by, look at them, point, and laugh, not to mention it would give the rest of us an incentive to keep on the straight-and-narrow. Of course, there's the chance that the people who make the list'll get mad and deluge the mods/other members with e-mail criticizing them for airing their dirty laundry or begging for second chances or to post replies for them (I admit to doing that elsewhere). But they won't be bothering us here, at least. I mean, this isn't ancient Rome. We don't need to be throwing them in an arena to run around for our entertainment like a bunch of cut-rate Neros....

So how amny people have actually been banned from here? I know there was Sveven, and now xAzNrKx. I'm sure there were others from before, but I just can't remember right now...

I seriously doubt this board under discussion here is truly necessary. In answer to happyheathen, the "Phanton Zone" is part of Superman. It's a place to put criminals developed by Superman's father (I think-haven't read Superman for a LOOOOONG time!).

Well, there was this guy called Mxyzptlk (after the Superman character who was almost equally obnoxious) at the World's Finest boards. He had several aliases, too, which led to him being banned. It sort of defeats the point of a discussion when you back yourself up in your own arguments...

And there's that guy Brian said he banned after about 10 mins.

I remember there was a Madame Freeman who was mentioned as the newest member once. I called attention to this, because my last name also happens to be Freeman. Whereupon Dick Grayson informed me that she was one of a crew that had flooded & crashed the old World's Finest Boards. I assume she's been banned since, & I for one would not want to meet her; I take offense to someone with the same name as me doing something wrong; gives all Freemans a bad name.

PPGWorld.com uses this same webboard design and it has a "For Mature Audiences Only" forum visible and usable only to those that the administrators make it available to. To get access, you have to e-mail Kiwi or Omniweapon. Could work for a "rules-free" board, if that's what anyone wants. PPGWorld actually has stricter rules in place for that one, and if you mess up once, you're gone for good.

I don't think a special status for banned users is a good idea. Once they are banned, just leave it at that.

I'd prefer to see Brian spend his spare time adding the Buddy stuff to his "Early Years" site. ;)

If they do make it, why don't we call it the ranting room? Nice name right? Maybe the ranting Sweed could be there.;)

with or without the Swede, I like the name

That sounds like a good idea. If these people want to rant and bit** till the cows come home, then that's what they can do and no one has to be bothered by it.
