The first anime I ever watched was the dub of The New Adventures of Gigantor. It's not my fave, but it was so cheesey that I think I'll always remember it
Y'know, with the Anime hype being where it is today, I can still remember back to the first anime I ever watched, & loved.
Sure, when I grew up, there was always "Voltron", and "Ronin Warriors" on TV(Good ol' 80s....). But I never really paid attention to them.
Then, a few years ago, I saw "Soul Bianca". And dude, did I ever love that! I saw in on the Encore channel(back when it existed in my area! Grrr! I want it back!), it was a Thursday night, and I was flipping channels. I came across Encore, & they were playing Anime. Sure, I had seen them play stuff before, like Patlabor & appleseed, but I never really paid attention, or watched them. But, when I decided to just stay, & watch it, I loved it. It was in subtitles to, and uncut. This is where my love for Anime began.
So, I sort of started out late. This was probably 4 years ago? Since then I've seen a big list of animes, full, uncut, & subtitled.
Cowboy Bebop, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Parallel Trouble Adventure DUAL!, Armitage III, Princess Mononoke, the entire Tenchi Muyo series, and Akira remain on my top list of favorites...
But in the end..
Sol Bianca remains my first, true, uncut, subtitled anime. And I'll never forget it. I love the Sol Bianca!!
hehe. Anyway...what's your most rememberable anime?

Robotech...I couldn't believe the themes they got away with on that show, and I just had to watch.
I also remember seeing "Heidi," an old anime classic based on the famous European story by the same name.
Question for you anime-niacs--Have you watched any non-action anime shows lately? Don't tell me there aren't any out there on the shelves, because there are, such as:
Niea_7
Maison Ikkoku
Ah My Goddess
Kimagure Orange Road

I second Robotech. I remember seeing this back when I didn't even know that there was such a thing as anime, or that cartoons came from anywhere outside the US. What?! Don't look at me like that, I was an ignorant grade schooler at the time.
Fast forward to about '92/3 when caught the syndicated run of Sailor Moon, which served as my second introduction.
Since then I've tried to see what I can here and there, just broaden my horizons and enjoy the stuff. But nothing since Robotech has quite grabbed my attention and struck a chord with me on so many levels with the exception of Cowboy Bebop. And my newly discovered favorite Noir.
The first anime I ever saw was My Neighbor Toto.
I can still remember my first anime ever, too, which I have mentioned here before, but I love to remind myself of it every now and then. Battle of the Planets and Princess Knight were two anime shows that were broadcast in the same block on channel 5 in Minneapolis/St Paul Saturday mornings.
My first anime was "Panda" I remember we rented that movie over and over again, and just recently I saw it again and it was silly, but it had that thing anime has that no US animation had back then. Person development. i remember crying when panda's Mother was gone and he was all alone in a cage...Yeah I was silly like that when I was 6 -
...as for most rememberable anime later in my life...I think it must be Serial Experiments Lain

I guess no one had Speed Racer growing up. For a long time that was about the only anime that most Americans knew. It easily shifted between Spritle and Chim Chim's dwerpy comic relief to wild, deadly violence and back again. I loved it, though I only understood about a tenth of it. I had a Hot Wheels that kind of resembled the Mach 5 (aka the Sporkmobile) that I still treasure. Mama finally stopped my watcing it because it was too violent and switched to Tom and Jerry. T&J were LESS VIOLENT than Speed. Still amazing.
Saw it again a few years ago. Some things you can never get back.
Bet my brother can still sing the Star Blazers theme.
Free the Water Tower 3!
le sigh.... Anime.... i love it!!!
I had Speed Racer as a kid and astually liked it *shudder* until, that is, I saw Please Save My Earth.
my bro's ex girlfriend was an anime FREAK. and ALWAYS brought over movies and episodes. I loved it!!! She's like my best friend now even though she's like 21
Please Save My Earth

"Crap."
"Looks like we're dealing with The Riddler."
"Crap."
"This is gonne be annoying..."

Green Arrow #34
The first anime I remember seeing was Poochie, Unico, and some animated fairy tales that used to come on Nick Jr. From what fragments I remember of them, I thought they were pretty good...
"Pinky, my parents...they're driving me insane!"
"Egad Brain, really? Ooh, well that kinda leaves me without much to do..."
Ah Cobra Space Adventures, Captain Harlock, those were really great...
Like most of you I remember watching Robotech, and Voltron, but I never did get into G Force.
Oh well I think I'll always remember the end of GundamW, that is how you end a series. Of coarse I had 1 major complaint but oh well.
And I remember DBZ's Satien saga so well, truely incredible, Vegeta vs, Goku.

The first non-Westernized anime I ever saw (though it's naturally pretty Western) was Revolutionary Girl Utena, which remains one of my obsessions even now. The second anime I ever saw (in the same evening) was Birdy the Mighty (anyone know where to get the DVD?). I then saw Darkside Blues, Queen Emeraldas, and Battle Angel, and all three of those continue to entertain me.
The first anime I ever bought myself was volume 1 of Gasaraki.
"Paris is a city for lovers. Maybe that's why I've never been there for more than half an hour."
Humphrey Bogart, Sabrina
Battle Of The Planets - although that was Japanese Anime 'westernized'.... I think Akira is rather boringly my first taste of pure Japanese anime, unmolested by the Western World (bar subs)........

I think It was Ronin Warriors, I really didn't know it was an anime, I just thought it was another cartoon. But it wasn't until DBZ and Salior Moon came along, that i developed a love/hate relationship with them( Hate being Salior moon, it is still my least like show ever.) after that I whatched them alot, but I don't have satiellite so I cannot whatch all the anime I want. man my life sucks at times.
This is very similar to the suggestion put forward by the Quirmian philosopher Ventre, who said, "Possibly the gods exist, and possibly they do not. So why not believe in them in any case? If it's all true you'll go to a lovely place when you die, and if it isn't then you've lost nothing, right?" When he died he woke up in a circle of gods holding nasty-looking sticks and one of them said, "We're going to show you what we think of Mr Clever Dick in these parts..."

ahh...anime nostalgia. well, my first taste was from WJYS CHANNEL

-i fell asleep on a few of them when the block was moved
from early to late night.
-then i started renting. anyone here ever heard of cutie honey?
sweeeeeet. i also love ninja scroll, samurai showdown, streetfighter the animated movie.
then i moved on towards tv.
sailor moon
ronin warriors
samurai pizza catz
dragonball
-oh, memories.
I hate myself and I want to die.
I remember seeing previews for anime versions of Beauty and the Beast and Les Miserables on a video I had when I was about 7(?) Even then, I recognized it as being a very distinct style, but thought of it as more akin to, say, Chuck Jones' style back then.
On and off with Sailor Moon.... But it's really digging up info on what was cut from Pokemon that got me hooked on anime. Fake boobs! Woooohoooooo!
I think I even liked AAML for the first five seconds of it, way off from now where I can picture "Ash" with most everyone beside "Misty" (well, I can't see BAAL either, but "Brock" has the honor of being about the only character I see as indisputably non-yaoi)
Without a doubt, I fondly look at Robotech, Voltron, and Speed Racer. These were cartoons, but they were like nothing I'd seen up to that point. They blew me away. Then came Dragon Ball Z, Ronin Warrior, and Ninja Scroll. I also enjoed Ghost In The Shell, Akira, Tenchi Muyo, and Gundam.
I would like to point out to all who enjoy anime to look at everything with an open mind. Some of the best ones are the ones that aren't popular. But in all, I just love great animation, and nothing delivers like anime. And the stories are kick ass too.
