Is Shinji Ikari gay? (PG-13: Mature Content)

in aniticipation of the eva movies coming to dvd in november, ive had the series on my mind. so what do you guys think? is shinji gay? there is lots of evidence that this may be the case, for example, his relationship w/ the boy angel (i forget what angel # he was). they showered together and shinji claimed he loved him. plus i think it was obvious that guy was putting the moves on shinji. also, i remember misato san wondering whether or not shinji was afraid of women, but concluded he was just afraid of people, period. but still, we all know shinji had major issues with his father, and his mother (well, who on that show didnt have issues??). I'd say its very likely he's gay, obviously his psyche is very complicated and he has lots of things to work out, but i'd say its very likely.

but he did seem to enjoy his fall ontop of rei while she was butt ***** neked. what do you guys think?

I think Shinji is just nervous about people in general ya know? It was kinda funny when he wore Asuka's red suit though in ep 8.
Anyway, I always viewed him and Rei as an item, but maybe their just really good freinds

The way I understood it was that Shinji was never really able to connect with anybody on a personal level before Kaworu. That's a sort of love, but not the kind you're talking about. From his reactions to Rei, Asuka, and Misato, I think it's safe to say he's still interested in women.

i agree, shinji seemed interested in rei, but not really misato. and his relationship w/ asuka (aside from their kiss) seemed to be more like brother and sister. all i'm saying is its a big possibility that he's gay, and i dont have any problem w/ the lead character of one of my favorite animes being gay (or possibly gay to be more specific). i definately think the evidence is there and the writers must have known his sexual orientation would come into question. just my opinion though. peace.

i don't think he is gay as some of you gave examples of. another example was when shinji, misato, and asuka were in that hot springs. shinji was on one side of the wall while misato and asuka were on the other side. misato started touching asuka down there and when shinji hears the exchange between misato and asuka, he blushes and then claims "it" expanded.
