Evangelion? I never saw the movie's so I don't know. I thought the whole series was kinda overrated.

I thought the show was interesting, if flawed. If not for Evangelion, a lot of studios would not have been inspired to make more original works. Sunrise's sudden peak in creativity occurred after Evangelion, and psychological depth in anime was pretty much taken to its limit in this show.

As for the movies, they say the same thing as the end of the TV series, except that it's longer, has much weirder and better-looking imagery, and it's meaner spirited. Anno doesn't just give you the ending, he makes you choke on it. If Manga doesn't screw around with the movies too much, I'm going to get it on DVD in 2002.

Yes it was interesting, but alot of people made it more then it was. I've been to different boards, were they think that Evangelion is perfect, when it's not. I saw the whole thing, it was very good, but nowere near as good as I heard. I'm sure you heard alot of the same things, Larry.

Well, you know me. I'd like to think I'm pretty fair. As you know, I even criticize shows that I gush over. I've criticized 8th MS Team, Cowboy Bebop, Simpsons, King of the Hill, Batman Beyond...even though I really like these shows (or used to, in one case). And I won't fool myself into thinking Sailor Moon is a work of art just because I like it. It is pure, pure, guilty pleasure on my part, but the Lord never said I can't watch bad shows.

I don't think Eva is the greatest thing since swiss cheese, and it has one of the whiniest heroes I've ever seen (my least favourite protagonist of all time...even worse than Sailor Moon. At least SHE steps up her game Winston Churchill-style when the stakes are high enough...)

I've only seen part of Eva (and I plan on seeing more) and while I thought what I saw was good, I didn't find it as impressive as everyone I've come across says it is. Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way.

What?! You no longer like Cowboy Bebop? I'm both shocked and amazed.

Yeah, my opinion changed pretty fast, eh?

The first half of Eva is purely generic robot crap. The last half is Ingmar Bergman territory. THAT's where the meat of the show is. Or in many people's opinion, the least pleasant to watch. Ever watch that guy strapped to all that equipment in Clockwork Orange? Well, it's something like that...though not in the physical sense. Fascinating to watch, but masochistic...

Re: Death & Rebirth:The End of Evangelion

death and rebirth is really a summary of the important parts of the series, so i think you can forego buying it unless you are a really big fan of the series. EoE is just as out there as the series is if not more so; i think EoE is a good buy though.
