catlover's anime review #1: Slayers the motion picture.

    Like This Thread!
Let me get started by saying that if I'm takeing anybodys job go ahead and scream & cuss at me, if I'm not than leave me alone. Okay, lets get started.

Story: 4 out of 5. This is one of the few movies that gets me craked up at every joke(the only other movie to do that to me is kung pow). The premise of the story is that Lina and Naga decide to go to the hot springs on mecross(s/p) island and are called upon by the sage rowdy to help him change the past. I won't go any futher into the story so as not to spoil it.

Animation:3 1/2 out of 5. I won't rate the style of animation, I'm just going to rate the quality of it. And the quality okay, but not the best I've seen.

DVD extras:3 out of 5. Theres not that many extras in this movie.

English voice actors:4 out of 5. I just love nagas voice, Linas gets a tad anyoing at times, everyone else is ok.

catlover's parental rateing:PG. Theres some skimpy outfits, PG level cussing, and a tad bit of blood at the end.

This is my first review so if theres anything I left out of the review just tell me. I will do another some time this weak.

You forget our fun little spring in the movie. Makes things mature a little *HINT!HINT!*. Not a spoiler of course cause those of you who haven't seen it have no clue to what I'm refering to. As for the movie. I like naga *crazy laughing people always cracks me up* but she eventually got on my nerves. Lina was Lina but like usually I'm disappointed that they didn't show the characters from the t.v. series. Wonder why they decided to cut them out. Nice little end nothing much. Worth a laugh or two and is defintly worth the buy. Then again why take my word for that.

They didn't. The movies and OVAs are based on a manga storyline that came before the series. Lina's younger, not as...eh...jaded, and she's got Naga as a traveling buddy. The two of them split up awhile before she met Gourry, but neither the anime, nor the manga explain why.

Ah. I see. Thanks for the explanation.

Here another one for you. Have they ever done a movie with the cast from the t.v. series or is it just naga and lina.

    That needs some clarification...

The plots of the movies and OVA's take place chronologically before the series, so the characters from the series wouldn't show up. In that, you're correct. However, the series was based on one or more novels which predate the manga, so technically, the storyline of the series was developed first.

Uhm, I think you misunderstood, I said the storyline for the OVAs and movies came before the series, not that the manga for the OVAs and movies came before the manga for the series.

And surforst, there was a 30-minute movie made just recently that had the cast from the series (complete with Xelloss) called Slayers Premium, and it even featured a (very) brief Naga cameo.

I'd give it around a 3 or 4 rating. Just because it isn't the BEST of the Slayers movies

I suspected that was what you meant, but I thought it still needed to be clarified, especially since it was in reply to...

You might try Anime Colony, that's the only place I've found to have any reviews on it at all. I caught it in raw Japanese at Animazement and thought it was absolutely hilarious, but that's just me. ^^

sorry I've been informed that one of my links has some links to hentai site so here is the review.

    Skysenshi's Summary:
Tired of being constantly hunted for the delicious delicacy they are turned into, the octopi vow to avenge themselves by annihilating the human race. Enter Lina and Gourry, both naïve enough to cause the spread of a disease brought about by an enchanted octopus. Suddenly, everyone in town could not understand each other; the disease had caused half of the populace to speak in octopi language. Taking advantage of the situation, the octopi promptly collect all the negative energy everyone's anger is causing and feed these to their "Protector". Thus begins the battle between the humans and their favorite food…

After much complaints about the lack of everyone's favorite Slayers characters in all movie and OVA write-ups, the creators finally gave in to doubtless a number of fan demands. Gourry is back. And so are Amelia, Zelgadis and our much-loved Xellos. This time, they're involved in a kooky situation wherein everybody speaks a language that only an octopus would understand.

Slayers Premium is funny, witty, and oh-so cute! You can't help but giggle at those who contacted the disease—they speak like Pokémon. There's even a folk song that reminds me of Pokémon. There's not much to say about the plot, though. It's the usual stuff wherein one small fry vows to exact revenge but he is actually being manipulated by a higher power that reveals itself midway. The concept is certainly trite and overused, but the way this was executed is just so damned entertaining.

For Lina and Gourry fans that have been waiting in anticipation for these two to finish what they started in Slayers Next, this movie is a must-see. No, there isn't anything blatantly romantic going on, but you will definitely see them squirm in light of the feelings they could never reveal. Sexual tension, anyone?

Xellos doesn't have much to do here except say his usual line: "Sore wa himitsu desu." He just shows up, probably to please Xellos fans who can never get enough of him. Naga makes a cameo, but don't expect your ears to be spared from her ultra-irritating laugh. She indirectly saves the day, however —and in such a hilarious way to boot!

What's most noticeable in Slayers Premium is that the animation and artwork have really improved in leaps and bounds. In fact, it looks so much better than the previous movies. This one has obviously been aided by digital animation so everything looks crisp and clear. The action scenes are more fluid and the colors are brighter.

I have a bit of a problem with the "happy" ending, though. It's just too…well, weird. It reminds me of that particular TV episode where Lina fried this fish-man with her Fire Ball and this fish-man's monster friends cry in sorrow for a while but then proceeds to make dinner out of him in the next breath. Here, the octopi's limbs regenerate and well…the rest is just too icky to say out loud.

    (Skysenshi's Ratings: Art: 9; Story & Plot: 7; Characters: 8; Sounds: 7; Overall: 8)

*good lord I'm watching a comercial where ben franklin singing "Don't you want me baby" how strange*

Well here it is. Pretty big. Now lets see if I can put up some pics.

There one of naga but I want to avoid putting something which may be consider offensive and lets face it naga isn't exactly G rated stuff.
