    Manga

    Like This Thread!
Since it doesn't explicitly say we can't talk on manga in the must read thread, and because many successful series are based on manga, I figured I might as well drop a post about it.

So, who here buys it? Who are your favorite authors? What series are you currently keeping track of? do you buy any of the manga magazines (Raijin, Shonen Jump)

I buy it on a semi-regular basis (a couple volumes a month, because that's what I budget for it), I particular enjoy the work of Leiji Matsumoto and the Artist Team CLAMP and I'm currently reading Chobits, Angelic Layer, Clover and Galaxy Express 999. I picked up the first issues of both Raijin and Shonen Jump, and I'm tempted to subscribe to one or the other. It's a tough pick.

I don't buy manga. {Random gasps} I've just never been a big comic book person.

My favorite series is currently Blade of the Immortal. My favorite author is Rumiko Takahashi (who doesn't like her work?) I don't buy any magazines, but I'd like to check out Shonen Jump sometime soon.

I don't buy it, but I check it out of the library, on account of manga costs like $15.95 and I'm almost always broke.
    I currently read:

    Cardcaptor Sakura
    Magic Knights Rayearth
    Fushi Yugi
    Galaxy Express 999
    X/1999

The only manga works I'm a really a fan of is CLAMP.

I've trekked down to LA just to pick up manga sometimes, even if it was in Japanese I'm a novice when it comes to manga, only got GW, CCS and...that's it. Anyone recommend any good authors or series to pick up? I really want to get my hands on Outlaw Star.

On the cost of manga: I'm almost tempted to learn Japanese and start buying imported manga because that's still less expensive than translated manga. My local anime store has the whole of CCS in japanese for 35 bucks. The translated series would run about 120 (granted I've already close to 300 on the DVDs).

I would have definetly checked it out had Tokyopop decided not to make edited versions the only versions available.

Whatever happened to Tokyopop being "100% Authentic," anyway?

Battle Angel Alita is my big thing. When I saw the anime I became instantly obsessed with cybernetics, so when CLAMP started in on Clover, I became obsessed with that as well (though I, too, am poor and must borrow the volumes from my best friend). When Blood: The Last Vampire 2002 came out, I was all over that, even though it's semi-hentai.

My favorite artist is Yukito Kishiro (Battle Angel Alita, Ashen Victor) because his art looks so real and he injects so much philosophy into his storylines.

BTW, where do you guys live where manga is available at your library??

I highly advise you check it out anyway. You're missing out over nothing.

I was slightly irritated about the name changes, but still... the story's intact and the action has made a sudden fan of cars out of me. I mean, I could care less about cars before, but now I'm check out out the specs and names of every car I see.

Look at it this way.... you "protest", all you're doing is depriving yourself of a good read while others go on to enjoy the manga.

Not to mention the futzing with the names seems to've lightened up suddenly and heavily after the first volume.

I'm kinda curious about the anime now, I just don't wanna be let down by it like I was with the Love Hina anime.

Most anime are never as good as the manga. They either add to much on or take too much out. Thought there a few that are just as good if not better than the manga I just don't rember what they are.

I'd say Angelic Layer TV is very comprable to the manga, if not a little funnier and a little more poignent at points.

all the manga ive read are from CLAMP, Clover is probably one of the best ive read, all it needs is an ending

another manga from CLAMP that everyone NEEDS to read- CHOBITS.

actually, TPOP took out some parts of the story. all i know is theres a girl that becomes a prostitute, and that apparently plays a big part in the story. what TPOP did was they took that whole situation out, and they went back and re-draw the character, lengthining her skirt so her panties wont show.

Chobits the Manga is definetely stronger than the TV series IMO. Much more intelligent when it comes to talking about the relationship between persocoms and humans. Less filler in the manga too, though some of the filler in Chobits TV is pretty cool (the clip episode is not).

I love CLAMP and Rumiko Takahashi, but lately I've been absorbed in Yuki Kaori (Angel Sanctuary, Count Cain) and Shoko Matsu****a (Yami no Matsuei). Chiho Saitou (Utena) is a very good artist as well.

Remember how the anime was like religion on acid? The manga tosses in heroin, cocaine, and morphine into the mix. By the time I finished it, my head was absolutely spinning, and the ending is confusing as heaven and hell.

The artwork is absolutely FANTASTIC though.
