    Digimon season 3

    Like This Thread!
Am I the only one who watched the premiere? It seems that it is still too soon to tell if it will be another season 1 ripoff. It might be looking bad as there is already one reused idea; trying to hide the Digimon.
What was annoying is that today's premiere only had 1 real Digidestined, and I believe that girl (name?) may also become a Digidestined. If there are only two human characters, the show will get quite boring.
It was funny when Guilmon added "mon" Takato's name and thought he was a Digimon.
Today's show started with a little cat (or maybe a dog), possibly a Gatomon ripoff. No villain was introduced.
There was one very strange thing with this episode. It was 40 minutes long, about twice the length of a usual episode. I have a feeling that it was really two episodes, but they didn't show a title for the second.
Guilmon seems to be not listening to Takato. I know Guilmon will not be taken away. It is way too early in the season for that. Due to the rare chance that he is taken, he will be brought back within a few minutes.

    I watched the premiere today.
I don't know about the 40 minuttes thing, but sometimes when they air a new show the shows first ep will be twice a long as the regular eps to be able to introduce the show better and catch some viewers.
I think there will be more humans as the show goes along.
As I have only seen an ep here and there of the two other seasons of digimon, I thought it was neat that digimon only were a game and a show in season 3.

Um, nothing wrong with spoilers, as long as they go into a greyed-out spoiler box.

    Spoiler:
You know, a box like this.

    Guilmon:

    "ELL-IOT!!!"

    "E.T. Home..."

    "Ouch...ELL-IOT...OUCHHHH..."

All right, that's enough making fun of Guilmon's voice.

Still not high on making collectable monsters as high drama, but it DOES have a smashing editing job on its new opening and the commercials are suprisingly hip. Very cool job of promotion, Fox Kids.

I also saw Medabots, a generic toy collectable concept with a hilarious dub script. Loved Ikki's reaction to his mom jumping into bed with him:

    "M-mom!!! What are YOU doing???"

It wasn't unintentional, either. A thinly veiled incest joke if there ever was one. CLASSIC!!

I expect yet an even stronger emphasis on humans this season. It's pretty clear that the writers would LIKE to get away from the monster aspect if they could (Down, creativity! Down, boy! This is supposed to be a toy commerical!) and I think that this pretentious "THIS is reality!" tagline might indicate a harsher emotional season (I hope). I never liked what I saw of the first season of Digimon, and I wasn't too big on season 2's characters apart from Ken, and I couldn't buy the show as a drama since the whole concept of pet monsters is too ridiculous to float seriously, but I'll admit, Fox Kids promotional campaign for season 3 was quite enticing. The editing team behind the commercials really did a superb job...rivalling that of even "mature" prime-time commercials.

40 minutes is twice as long. A regular episode is 20 minutes. It was 40 minutes fit into a one-hour time slot, instead of 20 minutes fit into a half-hour time slot.

I saw much of the Digimon season 3 premiere yesterday (except the last 5-10 mins) and liked what I saw. Pretty cool.

I was underwhelmed. Takato's shaping up well, but after two episodes (in essence) I understand nothing. We've barely seen the other two tamers, there's three weird faceless people hanging out in what looks like USS Voyager's Astrometrics Lab obsessed with something, and Guilmon's Lenny act could wear real thin fast. The other two seasons started dull, too, so I'll wait a few more episodes before a final judgment.

Really? I can buy anything...thereve been some pretty absurd shows in the past that were kinda serious and pulled it off just fine.

According to the Anime Intro Archive...
Writer: Chiaki Konaka (lain, Big O, etc.)
Director: Yukio Kaizawa (Dr. Slump - Movie Version, etc.)

I do recall the introductions of the other 2 Tamers being fairly slow. And I just got a little surprise from "Henry" in my latest tape. I didn't picture it, but it was a cool bit of animation.

There's alot I'm missing from not understanding Japanese as well as i'd like, but it's fairly slow. on the other hand, we're being introduced to future Tamers (want more info? email me) without the very sudden introduction of Hikari or the dramatic ease of Ken from his initial role as nemesis. That's an improvement right there. Jun, too, come to think about it. Daisuke's sister may not have had the importance that Tai's did, but at least she didn't come out of nowhere.

I see some familiar patterns emerging, but I still have lots of questions 20 episodes into the thing...

But there's one thing I'm sure of... check out my mailing list.
