What's your opinion on downloading anime, and other animation?

I say as long as it's legal and the people who made the animation it say it's alright to download, then it's okay to download. Otherwise, I would never download it. I don't need to get into trouble there...

Well, for me if I can easy obtain a copy via legal means I defently won't download it but if I can't I might consider it.

Depends if a U.S. company has picked up the rights or not. I will download if nobodys going to air it, but once a company picks it up, I stop.

I just hope FUNI keeps all of Yu Yu Hakusho's Japanese music like they did with dragonball (Not Z).

I usually don't download anime all that much, but I do download some TV episodes. The little anime that I do download is generally to see if I like it and, if it is available in the U.S., whether I want to buy it. For example, Mononoke, I downloaded, decided I liked it, and bought it. I don't know if I would've been able to see it before buying otherwise, and I would rather see if I like something before I buy it, instead of just buying it and trusting that I'd like it.

I've been out of this habit for a while, but once I get back to the college dorms and the ethernet next week, I should be back to downloading eps, mp3s, and other goodies again. I think I've only downloaded 2 TV eps. all summer.

It's ok as long as whatever you're downloading isn't a licensed series.

Or you're only downloading an episode or two to see if you actually like the series before you decide to invest large amounts of money into acquiring the series on DVD or VHS. But again this is what you have TV or your fan clubs for.

Question: where are you downloading this stuff from? I used to download using CuteMX, but sadly, I haven't been able to connect for months.

I think it's ok to DL eps, if they aren't licenced. When I DL eps I want to but the DVD cuz I would like to see it how it was supposed to be. Until now I only have 2 Cowboy Bebop DVD's but I'll get more.

As for where I DL my stuff:

    www.streamload.com

If you really are into the anime thing this is the perfect place. It's a storage. You set up an account and go to the forums around on the net and ask for eps. Then 10 minuttes after you'll have the eps on your account and you can Dl 'em.

Depends on the availabilty rather than legality. Legality is a difficult concept to define when it comes to the internet.

My simple rule is, it's available for purchase, then it should be purchased - doing so supports the industry and encourages further releases. If it is unavailable to buy and there are no rumours of potential releases (eg; no one is making any cash from the concept), I don't see any moral restrictions in clicking that button!!

Exactly thus IMHO downloading TTA Spring Break is more justified then downloading a EP that is on one of the tapes especially if your you local video store still has it on the shelf

*Note* I said more justified. Natch I do not offically support Downloading WB copyright meteral here as this is a WB board

I've only downloaded ONE cartoon. That was Return of the Joker Unedited. I felt I had a right to download it, as I tracked down a copy of the VHS and DVD (both edited), bought them and then I bought 2 more ROTJ books, and the soundtrack. I think I DESERVED to see the un-edited.

As far as downloading episodes of a show, I don't see the problem. If like cartoon network airs it, then what's the big deal? You can watch them on your TV, so why not on your computer?

Since I don't get WB I've downloaded several Batmany Beyond episodes, its simply not avilable to me and I want to see it. If it matters, I do own both Batman Beyond The Movie & ROTJ.

I don't bother with anime because I don't really know of any series that are so great, and not released over here, thet I should spend my time downloading them. There are some Gundam 0080 & 0083 episodes I've considered downloading - but I'm gonna buy the DVDs anyways, so why bother?

Well see CN like other networks runs ads during it this money goes to CN and the owner of the show. When you download it there is not ads no money flowing to a station or the owner thus if you watch a ep on your computer then watching it on CN you are not supporting the show or the station.

Well, it comes down to a number of categories.

    1. Foreign shows with no pending license in your country. Most shoujo fits into this category. I can't picture KWB! picking up the anime with the magical pig girl. DBGT, on the other hand...

    2. Badly dubbed/editted foreign shows. A pure matter of opinion.

    3. Domestic product with no current releases in your country. Song of the South springs to mind. I saw a PAL tape of it while in Rome.

    4. Older series with no licensed distribution at the moment. ABC's Beatles series springs to mind. My little sis requested more eps of this and I picked 'em up.

I confess. I love digital fansubs. I think it's all right if they aren't licensed and probably have no hope of ever getting picked up for distribution (Child's Toy springs to mind).

Otherwise, I play fair and buy the stuff.
