Pokemon is a kid's cartoon. Some young adults spend too much time busting their veins over it.
The plant pokemon,GLOOM,is a deliberate drug reference. The flower on his head is the flower that OPIUM is derived from,he drools narcotic nectar and is classed as a "weed" pokemon. This is nothing bad in japan, but was toned down for the american release.(they simply replaced "narcotic" with "hypnotic")
That would be the deranged fact.Gloom happens to be one of my favorite fictional critters of any movie/cartoon/game.
Anyway, since i`m apparently not allowed to explain this in the other thread ("dont bother defending it!") I like pokemon because half of them are based on real-life biology that I spent most of my childhood studying.Parasect is based upon an actual mind-controlling fungus that attacks insects, and "Vileplume" is based on the jungle Rafflesia; a massive parasitic flower that smells of carrion to attract flies.Tentacool is a deep-sea comb jelly,Kabutops is a humanoid version of the pre-cambrian arthropod Anomalocaris, and Victreebel is a giant pitcher plant...which I used to grow as a kid.
...Science only advances for the sake of cartoons.

Well that makes my reason for liking Pokemon seem rather superficial in comparison.
I just like James' voice in the cartoon series. It makes me laugh everytime. Oh, and I like Psyduck - an English inspired Pokemon if I ever saw one. Just a total pain in the butt. The English excell in devising annoying characters.....

the show is terrible

Exactly. Some of those fads are just too hard to stomach for our types, so we just have to understand where it's coming from, and what it's directed to.
I was just thinking about this before when I saw an advertisement for something about that Backstreet Boy's little brother and his "music". Yick! I can't stand it, but hey kids are kids. They're gonna like what they're gonna like.
And I may not like Pokemon, but considering the fact that I've cooled down over the months about using it as a scapegoat for killing off Batman Beyond, I can honestly say that I'm not out to destroy it.

I like how the characters act, and it always makes me smile when the losers come in.
I also like how many episodes take their focus on one or two pokemon, and explain either a job of that pokemon or what it is like. I always like to know what pokemon will be featured next, especially in the Johto Journeys episodes where a new pokemon is frequently introduced.
That's my reason for it.
I used to like it. But when they added the next 150, it started to get lame. They didn't even look like they put any effort into the monsters, like they did with the first 150. Then the shows episodes started to reuse plots and everything, and they just made TR more and more annonying. The movies were pretty bad on top of that. Then the WB started geting rid of good shows so they could show more of it. So after a while I started to hate it.
But the game is still cool.

All I want to see is the new episodes, so I wouldn't mind if it lost all time slots outside of Saturday.Originally posted by Jowy Blight

How little do you know? There were actually 100 "new" pokemons, totaling 251, and the new ones are every bit as good.
Team Rocket was always annoying. They didn't change.
And the movies are good.

Yeah but as mentioned before there's
WAY TOO MANY
of them.
I used to be able to stomach an episode in half hour doses, when only the first 150 of them, and I liked the cliff hanger episodes. However right now there are NONE of those, and there's too
many of those freaks to count! Besides, the episodes get more predictible every week, and I don't know how it remains still popular. The video game is fun, however, I was excited about getting Gold last year, but it got so boring, and I wasn't able to keep track of all the new ones. If they REALLY want to get high ratings, they should have someone actually DIE on the show, on screen. At least ALL of the classic studios have ONE cartoon where someone tries or does commit suicide. Can you imagine someone on Pokemon aiming a gun at their head?

If evolution happened, then why are there still monkeys?
I used to know quite a lot about Pokemon, but then I stoped following it after the first half of new episodes. As for the new ones, I feel they looked to much like the last 150, some of them don't even look worked on at all. Plus the episodes plot were used to much, It was like this. How little do you know? There were actually 100 "new" pokemons, totaling 251, and the new ones are every bit as good.
Number 1: Ash finds new Pokemon.
Number 2: Ash meets its trainer who has a problem.
Number 3: Ash trys to help and TR enters and trys to take new Pokemon.
Number 4: Pikachu takes out TR with a thundershock/ or new Pokemon beats them with some attack.
Number 5: Ash helps trainer get over the problem then leaves.
This is why I stoped following it.

--before, I'd like to see Jessy finally decide to commit herself, or be forced by the courts to seek psychotherapy. She used to be such a sweet little thing, really, before losing her mother at an early age and flunking out of nursing school turned her into a bitter little witch.
James is basically a spoiled Kennedy kid, with a homosexual twist, and it was unrequited love for a dame that drove Meowth astray. Truthfully I find the villains more charismatic and well-rounded than the heroes.
Like I said before, my favorite Pokemon are the realistically-handled ones, esp. dog Pokemon like Growlithe, Houndour, and Snubull--and Chikorita when she starts mounting Ash's leg and fighting with Pikachu for attention, and Heracross when it tries to nurse off (a very angry) Bulbasaur ("I am not your mother!").
Also, I find Pokemon who secrete hallucinogenic substances interesting. Imagine hippies going about getting high by licking Stantler bulbs and inhaling Chikorita dust. Then there's my idea of a chain of Ditto brothels....![]()

Some Very Important Guy: "You idiots! Team Rocket has just escaped with the rarest Pokemon!"
Team Twerp: "Ehh, now he tells us........"
Team Twerp pulls guns to there heads and......well you know the rest......

....brothels...weed....the underbelly of pokemo usage.
Most new Pokemon DO look like they were drawn in five minutes, and like BELCH said, the bad guys are better than the heroes. Brock woulda had more potential if he stayed in touch with his family-a 'caring' guy like him should NOT have just left his family then and there WAY early in the show's run.
But the games are still VERY good. I kinda dug my old Silver cartdridge out and play now and then....
....personally, I think Rocket was more threatening in the WAY early days...now their pokemon cannot even stand up to a caterpie, I bet. They are annoying, I bet, because they are so weak now-give them better pokemon and I would think they could become useful again.
BTW, the plots would benifit from a big shock like a death-perhaps Oak bites the bullet and Elm takes over as the head honcho of Poke-science?
Signature. A noun. It is, in internet terms, a series of words, phrases, and pictures at the end of every post used to make posts more fun to look at and show the user's uniqueness.
....I wish I had a decent one.
The old pokemon really arent all that creatively drawn (pikachu, meowth, cloyster ect...) its their abilities/habits that make them seem more creative. The new ones have neat traits too.
What will probably annoy the hell out of you: another hundred species are coming for the gameboy advance games.
But like ive said,I never think you can have too many monsters :P

I could never keep up with Pokemon and all these little creatures.
You know, I was thinking as I was reading the original post as to why you liked it...this is why people hated Mighty Mouse!
well its just the part about the creatures resembling animals that I have fond memories of being my reason for liking it...I just find the "drug" pokemon extremely amusing. And it looks cool too :P

I had no idea that Pokemon were drug addictsI find Pokemon who secrete hallucinogenic substances interesting.
