New Miyazaki film opens strong in Japan

    Like This Thread!
"Spirited Away," the english title for Hayao Miyazaki's new animated film, opened strong in its first day. About 2 million people went to see the film on day 1, which is a record-setting number. People are already speculating if it will beat "Princess Mononoke," but we will have to see if it can go the distance.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this one, dubbed, subbed or not.

Disney has the rights to all the Ghibli films (except Grave of the Fireflies). They have only released two of Miyazaki's films since 1998. Does that answer your question?

Pfft. If we're lucky. I'm still waiting for Nausicaa to be released on ANYTHING,--a 1984 film. And Porco Rosso from 1992. And Only Yesterday from the early 90s...and Whisper of the Heart from 1995...

Pokemon 4 opened at #2 on the box office, right behind A.I. which had been out for about 2 weeks.

That sounds like last week's B.O.

It was about 2 weeks ago. Anyway, I usually get Variety each week but pretty much after everyone at my dad's office has read it. Not sure if Digimon's 5th theatrical release/2nd "full-lengther" was out then.

Last year, Pokemon 3 was just behind Mission Impossible 2 and stayed on the top 10 for most of the summer. Digimon 3, the first full-length release from that show, and CCS2 also made some showing on the top 10 but not as long as Pokemon did.
