Last Week: A hostage situation feels far more serious thanks to the lack of bad jokes.

This Week: Into the DANGER ZONE!

Digimon Fusion is on now in the Midwest

"Talk about a Hot Spot. Hahaha, get it?"
    Jeremy: "Hahaha. NO."

    - Wouldn't be an anime without a hot spring.
    - Bane?
    - SkullMeramon: "Man, I love subduing!"
I suppose eloquence isn't something I would expect from the metal faced 10-ft thug with chains.
    - Alas, being pink and cute will always be a a target for bullies.
    - Cutemon: @_@
    - See Renamon, Digimon do have parents!
    - Nice that they call back to earlier series were they dub in a comment about having short legs.
    - I can't tell if they were going for Fantasy Troll or Bad Australian Accent for AncientVolcanoMon
    - Dorulrumon: "I'm like the wind."
So you are the Digimon equivalent to Tiger of the Wind ;p
    - So what do they call a character who says they won't get involved but ends up doing so?
    - Keep in mind Shoutmon is piloting a Power Armor at this point.
    - AncientVolcanomon, the anti-Kool Aid Man?

    Digimon Data file time:

Greymon! Who is... now grey for some reason.

Greymon looks more blue than grey to me. It was probably to make it different from the traditional Greymon, similar to how Agumon's Digievolutions in Data Squad.

Anyway, I thought that this was a pretty fun episode. It was nice to get a bit of backstory on how Cutemon and Dorulrumon met and introducing Cutemon's quest to find its parents. There was some pretty good action and hints about Dorulrumon's past coming back with that Bluemeramon. It is getting a bit old with how he doesn't want to get involved with helping Mikey and the others and yet constantly ends up doing that though. At least the next episode should explain more about Dorulrumon's past.

Dorulumon is one of my favorite Fusion characters, so I was glad that he got a lot of focus in this mini-arc.

Dorulumon and Cutemon have up to this episode been ciphers. We didn't quite know who they were, or what they were about. But when we saw them and their brief interactions added to the intrigue - Why would two clearly different personalities be together?

This episode provides us with an answer, and it's surprisingly dark. It's the story of a war refugee seeking his parents in the middle of a war. It's one of the nightmares brought about by conflict - families being torn apart, the lost of love ones, and so on. Digimon has always dealt with mature matters (without getting too grim that is), and it's nice to see that Fusion doesn't back down. Points for finally seeing the POV of a Digimon with parents.

Of course, this episode doesn't devulge too much into Dorulumon. We do get tidbits and hints, but no clear information yet. However, he's not really the main focus of the episode - Cutemon, and limiting the focus is nice without trying to muddle the whole story.

Alright, due to a server update, I wasn't able to comment during the talkback.

In any case, we reach the mid-point of this arc, in which our heroes have to go through that anime tradition of the mass breakout. It's alright, but it doesn't quite have the pathos of the last or the next episode. Maybe because the script didn't sound as uplifting as it should be. In any case, the action made up for the flaws.

Did anyone else laugh when they saw Pumkinmon and Gotsumon in that dungeon in the Digital World?

I almost forgot to comment on last week's episode. I thought it was okay. There wasn't much action and breaking out of the prison wasn't too engaging, but it did continue to show that Mikey is quite good at making plans. I forgot that they didn't reveal the twist about Dorulumon's past until the last couple of moments of the episode. It does make for a good cliffhanger ending though.

Was at an Anime convention this weekend, but I already saw the episode. My brief thoughts:

The climax to this miniature arc, which provides a resolution to last eps cliffhanger. It was nice to see Dorulumon get more character development, since we got all those hints from the previous episodes. Digimon having developed personalities and past is always welcomed.

My only complaint about the whole thing - Dorulumon doesn't go through a whole conversion in his past. It was disappointing to discover that he wasn't a truly evil guy, so thus it was a bit predictable in this regard. It would have been interesting to see if he changed from a different life than the one he lives now.

Also, I wished Dorulumon keep the cool shades.

Yeah, that would have been a more interesting twist if he actually changed from being a really big villain. He helped the evil army, but we didn't see much of that and he already was noble enough to value the army's Digimon enough to save them when they were going to be destroyed.

Those were pretty cool sunglasses. Dorulumon's design itself is still pretty cool, especially when it reminds me a bit of Tiger from Monster Rancher.

As for the episode, I thought that it was pretty good. The reveal of Dorulumon's past was pretty cool, although it didn't create much tension between Mikey and his friends. Granted, they already knew how helpful Dorulumon could be and this was the last episode of the mini-arc, so they probably didn't have the time to go that route. Still, the action was pretty good, Christopher appearing again was nice and it was good to see Dorulumon officially join the team. It was kind of strange how the Code Crown appeared out of nowhere near the end, but they needed to get that taken care of relatively quickly after defeating the villains.

Next week's episode is one of my least favorites, and cements why I don't like Angie, although I didn't like her here, either. I mean...did she just complain about Mikey saving someone's life? Um...

So Mailbirdramon plus Greymon creates a version of Metal Greymon? Metal Greymon and his equivalents were Ultimate level, so I'm starting to wonder how the Fusions stack up in terms of the normal Digivolution levels. I can see Shoutmon and X2 as rookie level, while X3 and X4 are roughly equivalent to a Champion level.

Ice Devimon is still Christopher Walken .

It was nice to see Chibitortimon again, though I doubt he'll be making much more frequent appearances unless the Fighters wind up in an area with at least some water .

Was Travis Willingham Knightmon? It sounded like him.

I appreciated getting some insight into Mikey's past and how that shaped his personality, and how that in turn provides insight into how Mikey views Christopher and what the latter's deal potentially could be.

Reapmon is still an enigma, and an interesting one at that, but so far it seems like he genuinely wants to gain favor with Laylamon.

Yeah, complaining about Mikey saving someone's life doesn't really put Angie in the best light. I think that in the Japanese version, she was more upset about Taiki putting himself in danger in order to help someone since the water was ice cold and he did have to swim pretty deep in order to find the Digimon. Granted, I'm not sure about that due to how long its been since I've seen the series subbed, but I think that's what happened and I remember Angie's situation in the next episode being more understandable.

Oddly enough, I don't think that they refer to traditional Digivolution levels by name in this series. Shoutmon X3 and X4 would probably be seen as Champion level though.

I thought that this episode was pretty good. The action was really good and I liked getting the insight into Mikey's past. While it wasn't particularly interesting, I thought that making him feel guilty for not doing anything when he could have tried worked as a nice explanation as to why he always tries to help everyone. It also some insight into how he views Christopher and why he'd be willing to help him if he needed it despite the two of them being polar opposites.

Maybe it's just me - but I found Angie to be very annoying here. I would have sympathized with her for missing her mom - if she hadn't been whiny and constantly complaing ALL THE TIME up to now. And IMO, it doesn't work as development, because
    Spoiler:
she spends the rest of the episodes I've seen still whining!

I thought that this episode was pretty good. I don't quite remember Angie being this whiny in the Japanese version of this episode, or in this arc of the series for that matter. It's hard to tell if it's because of some of the lines she has, the delivery in her voice or a combination of the two factors that give that impression. I can see where they were going with this since until Mikey and Jeremy, she doesn't have much of an active role in fighting against the villains. She offers support and can be useful in situations, but in terms of fighting, Mikey and Jeremy are the only ones who have an active role to play. The combined feelings of home sickness and feeling like she isn't needed makes the idea that she'd be so desperate to leave that she would follow the orders to get the Code Crown believable. It's just still kind of hard to feel bad for her when she has spent more time complaining about being stuck here and Mikey jumping head first to save anyone.

The action was still pretty good though and the ending with Nene teaming up with Christopher was pretty cool too.

I know I am beating a dead horse for saying this for the billionth time, but trust me Angie and Jeremy as they are called here, they are way more useful and better in the manga.
