DB had two openings here. That's why I replied, I thought it was worth offering some insight from someone who actually lived in the UK. I won't know everything but I will know somethings better then those going on second hand online information.

I live in Canada, and this was the opening theme for the Blue Water 2003 dub.

    That'd be the one.

Ah, my mistake. I had actually forgotten about the second opening that Takao just posted.

Yeah...those lyrics are pretty...uh...terrible. Not that the literal translation of the Makafushigi Adventure isn't filled with childish lyrics.

Yeah, Takao's opening feels like something I would expect to hear on either a Nick Jr or a Playhouse Disney show. I still prefer the other dub opening to Dragon Ball. GET THAT DRAGON BALL! DRAGON BALL! THE GREATEST TEST OF ALL IS TO FIND THAT SEVENTH BALL! Well, to be fair, I do like the FUNi dub of the original song.

That opening is based off of the French one, and IIRC the Portuguese dub of Z uses a localized version of that tune for its opening.

And Daxdiv is referring to this theme (from the 1995 Ocean dub):

The opening you're describing actually originates from the French dub, made in the 1980's. The only reason I can think of as to why Blue Water used it was because they got their source materials from France, where ABGroupe is based.
This may also explain why the video and audio quality is so poor throughout, because the materials were second-hand and probably went through multiple format conversions.
I'm not sure of their reasoning for not using Funimation's superior materials (which would be direct from Toei Anim. in Japan), but it could have been to cut costs.

The funny thing now is that the international dubs are using FUNi's masters for Dragon Ball Kai.

Do you mean the Nicktoons edit? If so, that's technically Ocean's masters, haha.

I wonder if Ocean will continue the legacy of having their VAs sing the opening theme? Scott McNeil would SO rock that.

This video posted over on Daizex forums confirms that Scott McNeil is on board this project, assuming you thought this project was dead.

I wonder if Ocean realizes that by the time their first dubbed episode airs over there, the whole series might already be available in North America...

I really hope they change the voice actor for Vegeta if they are going to remain more truthful. .....That voice just....kills my ears.

Drummond's Vegeta is very iconic (cause he's actually Mr. over 9,000) so it's unlikely he'll be replaced but I agree they should find a more appropriate voice for him and well... a lot of the cast.

It seems far too little too late to make a second English dub when FUNimation's dubbed the whole series already but companies are going to do what they're going to do.

Well, at least they must have episode 01 finished by now, which would be enough to feed the fans until new Ocean Kai cast dub episodes were to be broadcast.

What a funny coincidence. I was thinking about this dub the other day and wondered if they were still doing anything with it. Sounds like they dubbed up to the Ginyu Force appearing. Can't wait to hear it(if it comes this year...or the next 2 years).

I'm very interested to hear that dub. Glad it's still in production.
