    Must-See Comical Anime

    Like This Thread!
This is similar to that last thread that I made yet different enough the I feel it warrants it's own topic. (I actually though I made a topic like this awhile back but I can't find a trace of it..)

What are some must-see shows out there that are just laugh out loud funny or whatnot.

I have the feeling that at least one I should have looked into by now based on the promos I've seen is Mahoromatic.

Mahoromatic isn't really a comedy, and it doesn't end that well.

Cromartie's honestly the only one I would say must-see.

Gintama, Gintama, GINTAMA! Cannot even recommend Gintama enough. My all-time favorite comedy manga/anime.

Seto no Hanayome is also one of my favorites.
-Kamen Rider Decade-"I'm just a Kamen Rider passing through. Better remember me!"

    -"Bang"

I second Cromartie also. However, it does lack a little on the visual/physical side of comedy. It's very much on the deadpan side of humour.

Ouran is beautifully animated for a comedy and very lighthearted overall, but I dunno that it's laugh out loud funny. It does seem to fall back on the tried and tired "every character has a tragic past" formula.

I do recommend School Rumble, quite a bit. The humour's not sophisticated but is very accessible--if you like those "dumb" Kevin James movies you'll likely like School Rumble. It also does visual gags quite well--tons of visual parodies and the like. In one sense it's a lot closer to Ranma and Urusei Yatsura in feel.

GTO is also one that's sorta been forgotten lately. Lots of perverted jokes if you like that kind of stuff, but also has those ironically sappy moments that play just straight enough for you to care but just silly enough for you to laugh.

Excel Saga for comedy in the kinda weird / nonsensical way.

Also reccomend those who hunt elves. You can't go wrong with a show about three people (a dumb a nails strong man, a way exagerated movie star, and a gun toting high school girl) who enter a world of elves for some reason. To get home they must scour the land for pieces of a spell...that have been tattoo'd on a couple random elves. AND EVERY ELF THERE IS FEMALE!

In terms of pure comedy anime (i.e. not something which mixes comedy and drama like "Ouran", as good as that is), my current top five are as follows:

-Cromartie High School: So surreal. The 11 minute plotlines make the show easy to digest, too. "Dearest mother..."

-Excel Saga: Despite some dud episodes in here, there are still plenty that get me to LOL frequently, partially thanks to the creative sight gags and the fantastic ADV dub.

-Ninja Nonsense: Onsokumaru is one of the funniest anime characters ever.

-Ramen Fighter Miki: For well-executed slapstick, hard to beat this.

-Shin-chan: The FUNi dub version. Yeah, the novelty of the re-written dialog has worn off since its debut, but it's still quite funny at times, and I like the Seinfeld-ian plotlines, wherein the smallest daily events can have a plot made about them.

Honorable mentions: Azumanga Daioh, Dragon Half, Galaxy Angel.

No love for Sgt. Frog? I think it's hilarious and has a lot of jokes only an anime fan would get.
