    Worst. Anime. Purchases. EVER.

Here, we go into rants about animes you wish you never sacrificed your hard-earned money for.

    Behold, my reviews:

    1. Chojin Locke OVA--or, SPACE WARRIORS:

(not to be confused with the actual anime of the same name)

This OVA was dubbed by US Manga Corps, the same people who gave us Harlock Saga and Record of Lodoss War. So my guess is that after RoLD, the UNNAMED dub actors in this film were half-dead.

My objection is that with Sunrise's(er, Nippon Animation, Ltd. 1989) killer animation and interesting plot, no dub job should be this bad on an uncut anime tape. The only crappy writing on Sunrise's part was probably "The Great Zog".

Oh, I could take Flora and Leon's adult voices. And while their chibi voices grated the nerves, I understood that the actors weren't being paid scale.

But...the HERO should have a better voice than Locke got. He suffered from a nasty variety of Yugioh Syndrome, with a...side...of J-Tiberius...fever. Add that to the fact that his voice was weak throughout.

The Great Zog wasn't that great. The Russian cosmonaut was needless. The Exo-power people were emotionless, sounding like people out of, say, a cheesy hentai.

And finally, don't get me started on the Federation major. Most horrid case of Yugioh Syndrome I've even seen. Mega basso profundo.

Thankfully, the plot and most of the dialogue was good; and the animation was great for its age. Otherwise, I would have demanded a refund of my money and wasted time.

    Money expended: $20.

    2. Kimba The White Lion/Jungle Taitei:

(I understand that this is a Tezuka classic, so this will be brief.)

The opening was great...animation. The song made me want to pull out my teeth. Dub voices weren't that hot, but it was Speed Racer old, so I forgave it that.

Also, did Disney Team steal from this anime? Likely. Did they improve the film? Undoubtedly, simply because of the efforts at realism.

May I never hear chibi Kimba's mighty roar again. Really.

And yes: the mutant lion cub roar, along with the parrot in Africa, was my main beef with this. Fatal logic error.

My lesson here: find a better dub of KtWL than one bought at Dollar General.

    Money expended: $5.

    3. Dragon Ball Z Movie #4 - Lord Slug:

Heaven help all who dare to watch this film expecting Goku to battle with a fierce Movie opponent.

To make the long story short(I wrote a longer rant on this already; where it went is anyone's guess), I was most likely spoiled by the first three movies. Even Saban's version of the Tree of Might was gold compared to this film.

[I liked Saban's ToM when it first came on, before I saw the REAL film uncut, with Shunsuke Kikuchi's beautiful music score instead of "Infinite Variations of 'Rock the Dragon'." A cool dub theme, but not good incidental music no matter how many times it's retooled.]

I was already frightened by the heavy metal music being used as the score for the fourth film; however, the music fit the action nicely. My ultimate problem with the film is the plot itself. The action onscreen made no sense. Goku appears out of nowhere to resolve the threat. No effort is made to point out the idea of an evil Super Namek. [I'm not expecting psychological ramblings from DBZ, but something other than a Namek's superhearing.... ]

In essence, I got less than what I expected from this film based on what I saw before it.

    Money expended: $19

    ==

The first is a valid OVA, despite the crappy VA work. The second...takes many leaps in logic(not counting Kimba's Mach 5 leaps). The third reeked of Limburgher.

Eh, well. $54 out of a possible seven to eight hundred in animation. Not too bad.

To pick a single worst, Utena. The guys look like girls, and the girls are lesbians. It has next-to-no plot, and at the end they turn into cars and have a chase scene with no under-lying meaning behind it. Keep the lesbians on Jerry Springer, and Utena out of America.

    Golgo 13: Queen Bee

This was stupid sequel, to Golgo 13, it had more sex scenes that a porno movie, the story was weak, and the animation could have been better.
I'd rather watch Dragon Half then this flick anyday.
The good news was I go it used and cheap for about $5.

DBZ movie #5- I gave it to my little cousin, it was so bad.....
"So it's true my words are contrived
I tell lies just to get into your mind
    I'm as fake as a widow's smile.
This mask of glass is what I choose to wear
So I won't ever have the need to bear
The total truth to anyone but me."
