FMA Manga vs Anime Question

I watched the entire anime series, but just opened up manga book in barnes and noble, graphic novel 12. It had like a ninja prince kid with bombs running from gluttony and king bradley, and it was awesome, why wasnt that in the anime. also some little ninja girl protecting scar. How did that cool stuff not make it into anime lol.

I don't think the manga series had fully described Prince Lin by the time the anime series started. Since there wasn't enough time to develop Prince Lin's story, the production staff decided to make up their own version for the series' second half.

Maybe when the FMA manga is finally or nearly completed may we see a proper anime reboot. However, that depends on whether Arukawa is willing to give the anime series a second chance.

Well, when studio Bones started production of the anime, only a few volumes of the manga were out. Therefore, the directors of the anime decided to make up their own ending to the anime, since studio Bones likes to keep their productions short and sweet (52 episodes or less).

That's very doubtful. On the DVD extras on the FMA movie, Bones stated that there's almost no chance for the anime to be continued. It would have to be picked up by another studio, which is also somewhat unlikely.

I still say that's pretty unlikely. From what I understand, Arakawa was completely satisfied with Bones' treatment of the anime (as were most fans), so I don't see why a restart would be necessary.

I guess it could happen, but to the best of my knowledge, it's not very common at all in Japan.

Remakes can happen if a certain series just wasn't good enough in its initial run but still has a fanbase. Shows like Kanon, Negima, and Hellsing all got remakes with the material being more closer to the original creator's vision and became successes as a result.

The fanbase for FMA is still there. However, at this point, Arakawa is focusing more on the Hero Tales anime set to premiere this fall. Afterwards, it is possible that FMA can get a remake with the proper storytelling based on Arakawa's original intent.

Being a history major, I actually prefer the anime's take on the series over the manga. The idea of FMA being a parallel universe to our own is really quite fascinating.

IIRC, Newtype USA had an interview with Arakawa last year which mentioned that she specifically asked that the anime have a different ending than the manga.

But I don't have my issues with me so can't double check.

While I love what I've read of the manga (I'm up to volume 14),and wish some of it's characters like Prince Lin, had been in the anime,I'm still happy with the anime version (and anyway,It'd be kinda boring if the anime and manga versions of the story were the same,IMO)....

Did she ask for it because she really wanted the anime to have a different ending from the manga even if the manga was completed or was it because she was still working on the manga and didn't want the anime series to be delayed which could pressure her to hasten her work?

Even faithful anime adaptations of manga aren't 100% accurate. Sometimes the director could put their own spin on the anime adaptation on the request of the original mangaka or by their own will.

I haven't read the article in ages, but iirc it was a creative decision. She just wanted the manga and anime to be different.
