I just got back from the local Barnes and I've picked up my copies of volumes seventeen and eighteen. I'm a little irked that the first four chapters of volume seventeen were in the JUMP I had gotten just the day before. Anyway, I'm reading volume eighteen right now and I'm surprised at how fast a clip these books run, although I'm bothered by how different the terms are between the Manga and Anime.

By the way, I hope the mods don't mind the double posting, I didn't want to clutter up the introductory post with my opinions.

I hate that 18, 21, 24, and 27 will have those irritating stickers. Anyway, I picked up the 2 volumes on Wednesday, and they're pretty good. I can't wait 'til
    Spoiler:
    Sasuke rescue.

Luckily the sticker on my volume eighteen cover came off easily.

Also, did anybody notice the material they used for the cover seemed a bit different?

Also, according the the back of each volume Part II's books will be released bi-monthly, which means that when its in JUMP it will have four-to-five chapters a month.

Heck, they even showed Part II Naruto.

I've never understood why people complain when we catch up to Japan on things. i mean, the reason a lot of people don't support the US releases of anime and continue to read scans is because the scans release the manga quicker. If Viz is right behind Japan, that shouldn't be an issue. I mean, wouldn't it be GOOD to have Shonen Jump collecting the Naruto manga from last month instead of three years ago?

I agree, I am very happy Viz is speeding up Naruto. It's their bestselling manga. Why should they let that one fall behind? And they will be going bimonthly for now on. So they won't catch up so much it will take the Bleach route.

By the way, what kind of stickers are on those volumes? And they just stick them on the back cover or something? Ugh I don't like that.

I agree, it'd be nice to be, say, one month behind Japan chapter wise in North American JUMP.

These stickers are of the cover arts. Volume eighteen, I believe, has volumes 1-4, twenty-one will have 5-8, 9-12 in 24, 13-15 in 27 and in the March issue of JUMP the rest will be in there for subscribers.

What about releasing the rest of Yu-Gi-Oh! right now? Or how about doing 4 volumes a month on One Piece so we can get to the Water 7 stuff? WHY is Naruto the only one getting all of this special treatment when it isn't even that good of a series?

I had to wait over 2 years to finish Angel Sanctuary, Death Note, and I've been buying Yu-Gi-Oh! for like 3-4 years now, and they decide to ONLY release Naruto. Thanks for caring about your fans you Vicious Insulting Zealots.

Because Naruto sells lots and lots of copies making lots and lots of money. If the titles you listed did the same, they'd be more than happy to do the same. But they don't and Viz is a business.

I could've sworn that One Piece's manga releases were doing well enough.

Though, I have to agree with Hades. If Viz had gotten the license to Jaya-onward of One Piece, they'd be speeding up the releases of that too.

Well, YGO is nearly over in the US, DN came out in two years, and One Piece...well, the next five issues of JUMP will have...two chapters.

    Life sucks.

EDIT: One Piece volume one is on it's nineth printing!

FYI, Yu-Gi-Oh! will be finished by the end of 2007.

They're doing fine, just not nearly as well as Naruto. When a volume of Naruto is released, it always makes it pretty high on USA Today's booklist, while One Piece and most other manga never even make it on the list at all.

I betcha if Funi's One Piece starts doing really good ratings causing an increase in the OP manga selling more that Viz will start releasing it quicker.

I gotta say, I've always liked Naruto well enough, but it's always been my least favorite of Jump's current "Big 3" (One Piece and Bleach are tried for the top spot). With these volumes I think it's finally getting really good. I really liked the Naruto/Gaara fight. I wasn't as impressed with the chapters with Itachi, but it picks right back up with the Tsunade arc, mostly due to Jiraiya's actions. I hope it keeps up at tis level.

As for the pace of other titles, nevermind One Piece or Yu-Gi-Oh, they've been dragging out Yu Yu Hakusho forever. It's going run longer here in America then it did in Japan. Actually I wish they hurry up with One Piece, too. I'll be in my thirties by the time we reach Water 7.

Also, I was hoping they would keep Bleach at bi-monthly volumes at least up through the Arrancar arc. Oh well. At least they're speeding up Shaman King.

Rushing to be behind Japan is just going to cause a content shortage. Look at Sgt Keroro. It's pretty much up to date and now Tokyopop are only releasing about 1 volume a year. Having a buffer works better since it means there isn't massive waits in between content, which can lead to people losing interest.

But hey, Viz's strategy with Naruto is basically gluttony

Well, let's see here, by December 27 volumes will be published and NASJ will be four or five chapters into volume twenty-eight and because Viz promises that the volumes would come out bi-monthly starting in March 2008 we can expect this:

    March: 28
    May: 29
    July: 30
    September: 31
    November: 32
    January 2009: 33
    March: 34
    May: 35
    July: 36
    Sep: 37
    Nov: 38
    Jan. 2010: 39
    March: 40

So, by March 2010 we will be at where Japan is in September 2007.
