    Questions About Kenshin

    Like This Thread!
I've never watched the series, yet and I was wondering what it's about. I mean, is it comedy or action? What's the main plot to it? Should I go ahead and buy the video?

    Thanks for your help.

Essentially, there are currently 2 Rurouni Kenshin series available. One is a 4 episode mini-series (in 2 discs) from ADV, and it is a dark, violent tale about the main character's (that's Kenshin) origins.

The other one is a TV series being released currently by Mediablasters. It is much lighter in the first 20 episodes, almost an action-comedy. It becomes more of a pure action show later on.

Basically, it's about a wanderer in 18th or 19th century Japan who's given up killing people. The TV series chronicles his struggles with enemies while still staying to his "no-kill" policy. The OAV series chronicles the years when he was an assassin.

You can watch the OVA or TV series first, it doesn't really matter. But I do think that watching the TV series first does make watching the OVA a better experience.

The OVA was released under the title Samurai X, the TV series is being released under the title Rurouni Kenshin.

I think it's better to watch the tv seris first then the OAV. Also, there's a new oav which ends the series. The first part came out in Japan 12/19/01 and the second (finale) comes out later this month. If you have AIM look me up if you want to check it out.

It's basically about the end of the Tokugowa period in the 1860's, there was a legendary swordsman called the Battouasi who helped bring in the new order, leaving a trail of dead bodies wherever he went. However, after a while he left and dissapered.

Fast forward 10 years, a goofy wandering samauri who uses a sword to protect people appears in Tokyo. At first you think he's just some goof, but as the show goes on you realize he truely is the legendary Battouasi the Manslayer, however this wanderer, named Kenshin doesn't believe in killing, he refuses to take a life.

The interesting drama IMO of the seires is the struggle within Kenshin, and how all forms of powers ar trying to bring out the Manslayer from within him, for if he does take a life he'd never be abl to return to the peaceful wanderer he wants to be.

And BTW there are actually 2 OVA's, the one Jo Jo just mentioned that comes 10 years earlier, and another one which takes place 10 years later.

If you've seen "Trigun" Kenshin is a show in a very similar vain.

    Hope that helped.
