I've finally caught up to where 'One Piece' currently is in the anime and realized there were many poignant/powerful/emotional moments throughout this series and it got me thinking about such moments in other anime series I've watched. I'll start with some that come to mind for me, starting with 'One Piece':
One Piece –
- Bellemere’s death
- Nami stabbing her arm where Arlong’s symbol is tattooed and screaming Arlong’s name. When Luffy stops her by taking the knife away and Nami tells him to leave, but eventually breaks down and asks Luffy to help her.
- Chopper's Past
- Vivi calling out for the town’s people to stop fighting from the clock tower, but no one listens.
Water 7 Spoiler: (highlight to read)
When Nami finds Luffy and tells him Robin’s real reason for working with CP9.
Fruits Basket –
- When Momiji tells Tohru about his past.
- When Tohru learns about Hatori’s past.
Sailor Moon –
- The Sailor Senshi dying in SM and Stars.
- Usagi’s phone booth scene in R.
-Shuu, watching the sunset with Lalaru atop the chimneys, rants about how wonderful life is and how no matter bad things are now, he'll have his day someday in episode 1.
-Sara kills the third of her attempted rapists and escapes into the desert, cutting her hair short and bawling her eyes out.
-Nabuca covers up for Shuu and Lalaru's escape from Helliwood, but promises to them he will never do such a thing again.
-Lalaru's speech about how she's tired of how fickle humans are in the sunset.
-Shuu fights with Sara in the caves to stop her from killing herself or aborting her child.
-The launch of battleship Helliwood.
-The massacre of Zari Bars by Helliwood.
-Soon, Boo, Nabuca, and Sis' deaths.
-The entire ending of episode 13 - Lalaru wiping out the wicked Helliwood soldiers and restoring water to the world, Hamdo finally getting his ass-whooped, Lalaru fading out of existence as she watches the sunset with Shuu... And the final scene of Shuu seeing the sunset again back in his home world.
Now and Then, Here and There... there's an example of how a lot of really stupid character and place names can ruin an otherwise excellent show.
As to the topic, the montage of ghost Setsuko in Grave of the Fireflies. The end of the dad-as-superhero vignette in My Neighbors the Yamadas. The final chase montage in Millennium Actress. Faye returning to the site of her former home at the end of Cowboy Bebop. The Real Folk Blues part 2. The epilogue of the last episode of RahXephon, when we find out that it was her all along. When Ashitaka says goodbye to Kaya in Mononoke. Kenji's dreams in Spring and Chaos.
That's all I got for now.
EDIT: Oh, and the manniquins in the original Ghost in the Shell movie, and the murder of the photographer in his apartment by the "pizza guy" in Perfect Blue.
