Cool I'v been wanting to see that again is the anime or the old black and wight movie?
Really, really early. It's on 4:10 AM Sunday morning.
I've already got the movie, so I won't be watching it, but it's a good sign. Could we be going back to the glory days when Channel 4 showed cool stuff like Allegro non Troppo?

Possibly. It has 2 Miyazaki movies in its new 100 greatest poll (yes, we all hate them... but they're still fun to watch) of family movies... so at least one network acknowledges that there is animation that doesn't come from the Europe or America.Originally Posted by MonkeyFunk
But, if C4 does air anime (and there's a chance that they might), it'll probably be in a dead slot like 4:10am. If Metropolis was shown in primetime, no one would watch, just as if any other anime was shown - even Spirited Away, which will be forever banished to Sky Movies.
However, there is always the chance that Jerry Springer Musical-esque riots will ensue (that was so funny for the BBC... I enjoyed the musical though) if C4 does show anything remotely graphic. Since the public's opinion in the UK towards anime is: PORN! BURN THE SIN!, if anything so much as a nipple, there'll be religious groups, parental groups and everything trying to burn down the headquarters of C4 - even if it airs at 11:00pm (like Jerry Springer did).
In short, C4 may start airing more anime depending on how well this does. If it gets decent ratings for its itme slot, C4 may start bringing stuff back in. If it's not watched by anything... well, I think you get what's going to happen.
On a lighter note, according to the TV guide, it's being shown subbed.

Ahhh niceI saw the Japanese version at college ages ago. Would be interesting to see how the English dub goes. I'm guessing 4's showing the dub anyway.

*looks at list* Kirikou made the list! Woot! ...hey, European animation is kind of underrated tooOriginally Posted by Mr Cat Dog
Totoro, though? That came out here? Expect that to drop off the list.
Think you might be exaggerating there. The top 100 cartoons marathon showed clips from Urotsukidoji and got away with it.Originally Posted by Mr Cat Dog

They had to give a seperate warning for that 30 second bit completely. The only ever time they've done that is with another 100 Greatest... with The Exorcist.Originally Posted by MonkeyFunk
Besides, that was greatly written off. One critic said: "If anyone voted for this, they must be high, or drunk, or both".
What's on TV says it's subtitled. Both in its review (3 stars) and in the main TV guide:Originally Posted by MonkeyFunk

In vaguely related news, animeuknews.net says that Only Yesterday is coming out here on the 1 of May. I thought that movie wasn't going to be translated or something?

I don't know...was the last time Allegro no Troppo on at 4:10 AM on a Sunday morning? The fact that this screening has caught everyone by surprise, and is being reported on like this just serves to make it even more clear just how much Channel 4 has changed over the last 5-6 years. That is; they're really more downmarket these days!Originally Posted by MonkeyFunk
If more anime (most likely other high-profile movie releases) were to be shown on C4, then I'd expect similarly unfriendly timeslots. I certainly don't expect any series to be shown like they used to be, since there doesn't really seem like there's a place for a weekly anime event for the channel to be identified with.
How I miss those mid-90s days of the 'Late Licence'... They got through loads of Manga Video's OVAs (complete with over-the-top dubbing!).
