    Beck is licensed, apparently

I know some people have been waiting for this series to be announced, and it looks like it's happened...or at least it's close. No official announcement has been made, but a Tokyopop solicitation for the second volume of the manga includes the following blurb

"Cross promotion with anime to be released by Funimation in March 2006"

This is awesome news if it's true. But Tokyopop could always be wrong. It'll be interesting to see how this is dubbed. They'll hopefully not dub the songs.

    ....

Didn't you see it? Toonami aired Beck yesterday, complete with a TV-PG rating.

Funny one Knux. But we were all thinking it. Hey maybe they'd air Mongolian Chop Squad? Probably not. Dang... March 2006? Bummer.

Here's a question... what the heck is FUNi's big title for this year? They're surely pitching something to CN for later Fall. I guess maybe they'll wait until FMA is over (which would be March most likely).

They're probably pitching all of their big Gonzo titles (Speed Grapher, Burst Angel, what have you) to Adult Swim. But, quite frankly, those shows don't seem suited to the tastes of the guys at Williams Street, questionable content notwithstanding. Honestly the only recent Gonzo show I'd suspect AS would like to air would be Gankutsuoh.

Beck would be a shoe-in for broadcast, though, and could even achieve modest success. If, uh, people don't mind overlooking some of the HORRENDOUS ANIMATION that plauges the middle episodes.

Funimation? Can't say I'm suprised to hear that. Always seemed like their kind of stuff, and they do excellent work with songs.

What about Samurai 7? If you're talking aout Gankutsuoh airing.

I can't see Burst Angel or Desert Punk or Speed Grapher making it though.

As for Beck. It'll depend greatly on how it's dubbed, as for the music. I think the engrish in some of the songs is pretty bad. But hey Bob Dylan has been singing for like half a century and I hardly understand what he's saying when he sings.

FUNi and Tokyopop doing an anime/manga cross-promotion? Can that be right? I thought Viz released the mangas based on the animes that FUNi acquires.

Unless maybe this is part of Navarre's new way of doing things...?

Viz and Funi and Tokyopop don't have any relationship with the anime and manga they license.

Viz releases some of the mangas but mostly just the JUMP mangas and FMA (also a shonen).

Gankutsuou is a great anime but I think it would be way too classy for Adult Swim's tastes.

I really wonder how they'll handle the language (and engrish)

cuz really as much as they keep telling me Koyuki is a muiscal god, everytime he starts up with "Fuuullllll moooOOooOooon SwaaaAAaaaAaaayyy" I wanna plug my ears. The song's nice, but DAyum his voice grates. It's one of the few instances I would like the english actor to sing the appointed song.

But Maho sings Full moon Sway pretty good. I think the worst engrish in a Koyuki song is in slip-out, he seriously just start singing and it sounds like rambling mishmash of words even though I think the instrumentals on the song sound awesome.
