Akira was the work that defined modern manga art.
Which manga do you think has the best artwork? I'm looking for some recommendations of interesting manga with good artwork.

Do you mean most detailed?
If so, Urushihara. You can tell who is who by looking at their boobs alone.

Personally, I love the artwork of "Oh My Goddess". In the early, early issues, they all look like drowned rats O.o But as the manga went on, it's gotten much, much, much better. Take a look at the evolution process of the artwork.
And that last pics aren't even very recent. So, yeah. And the story's great, too, if you like shoujo.

I'm a sucker for shonens but I really love the artwork in One Piece, Naruto and Rurouni Kenshin. Much better than the anime versions. Dragonball also has some nice art for it's time.

I love the Shaman King art.
Simply put, Hiroyuki Takei is the greatest artist ever.
Battle Royale
taste that pulpy goodness
Akira, Nausicaa, Berserk, Gantz, Tetsuwan Girl, Genzo Hitogawa Kiwa, and Tenku no Hasha Z all have good work done on them.
FLCL.
Not detailed in the least, but incredibly stylish and that's why I like it.
Anything from Mizuki Kawashita/Momokuri Mikan.
And yes, I realize this is very, very creepy.

Akira's attention to detail is amazing, and Kaori Yuki's art in Angel Sanctuary (especially the later volumes) is incredibly beautiful.
"As I bit into the nectarine, it had a crisp juiciness that was very pleasurable, until I realized that it wasn't a nectarine at all, but a HUMAN HEAD."

Pretty much anything by Leiji Matsumoto.
His style of art isn't for everyone (much in the same way Tetsuya Nomura draws and reuses the samn damn hero design for every Final Fantasy/misc. Square game, Leiji's girls look alike), but I ADORE it for it's elegant simplicity.
Not to mention his airships are hella detailed. X3
lol, the art for the better half of naruto is some of the worst manga drawings i've ever seen. kishimoto has improved immensely though, he is now much better.Originally Posted by Hyper Sensei
personally i like ranma. simple cartoony style. most "artful" would probably go to Vagabond, the artist in that is amazing.

No doubt. And with a protagonist like Gutts, one who is GUARANTEED to get pissed off, the art during the brutality and intense screaming is done really well. Easily should be up there.Originally Posted by Jude Santos
I will third the nomination of Beserk. The series's manga-ka may be a slow worker, but man of man does he produce some absolutely breathtaking artwork. Yes, it is pretty intense and gory, but it's liek that ina good way, not in an explotative way.

Sadamoto may work very slowly, but his Evangelion manga work never fails to blow me away. Being the character designer of Eva, the characters are always "on-model", and it feels like he really owns them. His splash pages are always stunning, and his mecha is as beautiful as his human characters.
As someone else mentioned, Miura's Berserk is very detailed, although he sometimes has problems with anatomy and perspectives. I haven't read past the fifth volume, so I don't know if he improves in that respect.
I'm not a fan of all of CLAMP's work, but their X manga literally took my breath away when I opened it up. It is, bar none, the most gorgeous, intricate manga I've ever seen. Of course, most of the detail is in their splash pages full of feathers and sakura petals and sparkles, not showing the bolts and gears of a giant robot. Which is refreshing in a way, that they don't mind spending so much time drawing such supposedly "trivial" details. Unlike, say, Five Star Stories or something, where the author puts in all that detail because he expects you to check the reference manual for every page.
Sometimes detailed drawings can be a chore.
Hikaru No Go is mindboggingly consistent and slick with it's artwork. Looking at it, you can tell that the art was done by a veteran manga artist.
Wow, someone else here knows about Urushihara!Do you mean most detailed?
If so, Urushihara. You can tell who is who by looking at their boobs alone.![]()
So yeah, I personally think that Satoshi Urushihara is the best. The amount of detail in his work is absolutely gorgeous. He even details faces in large crowds and distant buildings too.![]()
And about the boobs thing, yeah. He gets the nipples down to the smallest wrinkle.![]()
I own the first volume of his manga, DARK CRIMSON and if you like Urushihara fan service, you'll love this.![]()
Now if only DARK CRIMSON got an english release...![]()
One more thing, when you look at Urushihara's color images of girls, don't you find it amusing that their skins look so sparkly and glossy? :anime:
