So, I have to ask. Is there any chance in hell that these DVD's will be re-released like the Dragonball sets, with 8 eps per DVD, and 2 discs per set? It would be a real space AND money saver in the long run.

    Also,

Any chance of seeing Season sets for the Ninja Turtle releases?

    Thanks
I agree. The DBZ DVDs take up way too much room.

Lance -- thanks for taking the time to answer all of this. I think JMS still posts on the B5 NG, but it has been a while since I was over there.

Also, I'd like to express my thanks to FUNimation for having the policy of using Japanese honorifics in the subtitles as well as attempting to have very accurate subtitles! "Yu Yu Hakusho" is just a "rent" title for me, yet because the subtitles are done from a fan perspective, I now own the first two seasons!

    Now for my questions.

    1) For the TM!R OAV 3 release, is there ANY chance of adding some properly translated interviews with Kajishima-sensei as an extra (AIC interview, "101 Secrets" Q&A, the Q&A in one of his recent doujinshi titles)? Or barring that, might FUNi score a brand new interview with Kajishima-sensei? I can tell you that some of us hard core TM!R fans have questions we'd love to ask. So far, only Japanese fans have been able to do so which he answered in "101 Secrets" and in one of his doujinshi titles.

    2) I know FUNimation isn't in the book publishing business, but for the TM!R franchise, would you consider making an exception and aquire the license to the three "Shin Tenchi Muyo!" novels and one GXP novel by Kajishima-sensei? There are a lot of TM!R fans who would LOVE to own these, and considering how FUNi does their subtitles, I can't think of a better company to treat the canon TM!R novels right!

    3) In regards to co-producing an anime title, how about a 2nd series of "Fruits Basket?" Since the manga is still ongoing, I believe there should be enough material for a new 26-episode series to be created. It seems like it would do well in Japan (thus giving you a revenue stream) and I know we Furuba fans in the US would certainly like to see more.

    Thanks again!

Most likely FUNi would fawn it off to Viz, since the two have a good relationship.

If they did that, I would want FUNimation to insist on accurate translations complete with full useage of Japanese honorifics.

Viz has the rights to Pokémon (except the movies), and they don't plan on changing their style anytime soon, which means no Boxsets (maybe if Master Quest sells well), and no Japanese version. I think Viz & 4Kids needs Nintendo's approval, and they don't want kids to find out about the Japanese version apparently (nevermind all the stuff inside Movie #6...).

Of course, Viz doesn't really care that much about the license, nevermind that with the Japanese version and some good extras they'd sell pretty well.

Ive allready asked about the first two but the rep didnt answer. I'm sure 'the plan to destroy the sayins' will be released in the US/K if Funi can get the rights for it (which they might not be able to get as it was bandai who released the video and the video game).

As for Cubix I belive 3 DVD's were released but are out of print now, the DVD's had three episdoes each. Also 4-front video are releasing Cubix on DVD in the UK, only one DVD has been released so far and it has 6 episodes on it. Also the Cubix movie which is a summary of the TV series has been released on DVD

Also If you want to get american DVD's players then you can get them imported quite easilly from www.amazon.co.uk click here

If you want any more help either PM me or start a new thread on the DVD disscusion board.

Ventura Distribution is a subsidary of Viz, but Viz itself has the license. Kinda like how Disney owns Miramax.

It's been mentioned before, but how about when you guys finally get all of DBZ out, how about real season sets in thinpak cases or something. You can get 6 or 7 eps a discs and it would just take us so much less space. Part of the problem with DBZ is your company's crazy decision to put the enture thing out over 100+ discs. I'm sure there is a way to get each of the big sagas on 8 thinkpaks rather than the 2, 60 disc towers that DB/Z now occupy in my collection, and it would make more money for Funi with all those people who'll "Trade up" to a smaller-sized collection. I was kind of hoping Funi would smarten up and do this with the Namek and Saiyan sagas, but due to your choice of release, I'll be skipping another DBZ product that I'd love to have but just don't have the space for anymore.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

I believe the actual production of the discs is done by Viz (4Kids just supplies the video & stuff), and they said that they have no plans of doing boxsets for the forseeable future.

I'd at least like to see Kanto re-done in 2-disc sets. With that set-up, and 7 episodes per disc, Kanto would fit onto 5 releases, though the last disc would need some kind nice extra, as that would only have 6 episodes (if they're keeping Pallet Party Panic on the Orange Islands DVDs).

But I digress, this ain't a FUNi subject, but one for another thread.

i would first like to say, thank you Lance for taking the time to answer our questions. i have seen a multitude of answers here that will make myself and a number of people happy in my area. at times we fans of anime forget the people who work hard to bring us our media poisen of choice and i thank you for your hard work and determination within your company as well.

    Now for the questions...

    1) I was shocked and a little surprised (happily) that Funimation handled a very serious/adult styled anime like Blue Gender very well with respect to the original context of the show. How is Funimation going to handle Gunslinger Girl (GSG)? Is there going to be any kid glove treatment with it, given it's sometimes controversial themes?

    2) I am happy that you are moving forward with the Kodocha project. Can we get any clues as to who you have decided to cast as the roles? Some of us have our fantasy castes and I want to see how accurate some of my predictions have been.

    3) Fruit's Basket and Kodocha are the farthest thing from the action oriented anime Funimation ussually puts out. Kodocha already has a really big following over here in the states but it is not one of your key genre titles. Is Funimation making moves to break into a wider spectrum of anime and what other titles could you share with us that Funimation has gotten it's hands on?

    Last but not least...

    4) How well has Fruit's Basket done compared to Funimation's other titles that fit into the action genre? How does it compare to the shows that Funimation has had on the TV?

Thank you again for your time Lance, I am sure everyone of us here on the boards waits to see if you shall answer their question next...I know I do...heh.
Aren't you tired of all of this? I know I am.
