Hey there Lance and all sorry if this is a reply to an old message. I think I can answer this one as I live in the UK myself. We do (or I think did!) have DBZ DVD's in the UK, but they were dubbed by a Dutch firm called Bridge, however, it has not been sucessful, as apparently the voice cast was bad, the picture quality was bad, and names of characters were well, cheesy, such as Piccolo being called "Big Green" lol. But some sites like Amazon UK and other places are stocking up on the FUNimation dub, as it's better.

Also Ocean dubbed Dragonball Z from the Androids saga onwards. But Dragonball GT and Dragonball are dubbed by Oceans other company called Blue Water, which has a bad voice cast too, both companies don't hold any right to any DVD's apparently.

About FUNi not being in the UK, the only FUNi dub of DBZ shown here is the Ginyu saga up to early Trunks. We did have the Fusion saga, in Oct '02, but they changed it back to Ocean, shame. But we do have the FUNi cast on DBZ Budokai 2. But you see any Dragonball related stuff ere is distributed by a French firm called AB.

On this topic, I wonder if we are getting FUNi's re-dub of the Saya-jin and Namek saga's or not.

I do have one question Lance, I don't know if it is an easy one or not, but would FUNimation ever get any of thier dubbed animés here to the UK, not just the Dragonball series, that would be good, Toonami UK needs to expand the animés shown.

Sorry if this is a long message . But thanks for taking time.

Does CN still own the rights to all the DBZ and Dragon Ball, its been a while since they shown the older episodes of these two.

I'd say that's more in Bandai and ShoPro's territory.

Some Bandai titles have been licensed by other companies for the US.

Most likely CN owns everything Dragonball-related in one big contract, given how big a ratings-getter it is.

Maybe, but for some reason they always stop the show right before the cell saga, they probably do have the rights but I just wanted someone who knew for sure to confirm.

I guess I meant on TV, I know you can get DVD's, I've got the 3 DVD's of FUNi's DBZ Android saga, I was wondering if has plans of getting some of thier shows on UK TV. They last animé dubbed by FUNi was Dragonball Z the Fusion from the 14th Oct 2002 till Jan/Feb 2003. But I wonder if things can change, like I said Toonami UK needs to expand the amount of animé shown.

yeah, the licensing laws do seem very different in the two contries, In the US CN shows UgiO and Ninja Turtles but in the UK they show on nickoloaden and Fox Kids. Its really weried, not to mention confusing.

Actully, its not quite true. FUNi didnt get the UK license for the DB series, and so they would have to sub-license it. It was probly cheaper to sub-license the Ocean dubbed version.

Yeah you're right on that, it just the DB stuff. Also you are correct, it was cheaper for Toonami to get the Ocean and Blue Water versions of the DB series, and after all this time I still can't get used to Blue Waters cast.

I just picked up one of the new Tenchi GXP DVDs.

Let me put this into spoilers, for those that haven't seen it yet:

    Spoiler:
In the episode where Seiyro reveals the name of his new spaceship (Unko), your writers once again totally changed the characters' lines around. In the original Japanese version, Seina knows what unko means, and fondly remembers kids using it during his elementary school days. That's when he realizes what his "lunch" looks like, sighs, and puts it away. Then Kiriko wonders just what Seina is thinking about! Then the woman with the blonde hair (not Amane) commits herself to stopping Seiyro's ship before it "stinks" up the galaxy.

In the English dub, Seina has no idea what the word unko means, and the girls criticize SEINA for having a poor vocabulary. Also in the English dub, it isn't explained what unko really means, so NO ONE who soley watches the English dub will get the joke! And as a result of this, the "lunch" visual gag makes no sense to the English viewer. Coupled with the alteration of the blonde woman's 'stink' line, and we've now lost three very funny jokes from one scene.

And what's with the unecessary episode title changes?
    Vegas...now??

FYI: The titles aren't changed for the Japanese Subtitles, which are pretty accurate and good (and they even include the Japanese honorifics).

If Lance ever makes it back out here, maybe he can explain why the dubs for some series (like GXP) are so domesticated.

As I said, the Japanese Subtitles are fine and as such, I've been happy with FUNimation.

You're not in a position to make that call.

Lance has asked for the mods to keep it open for more questions.
