Hmmm, interesting question. I guess you'd have to include the DBZ characters, rather people like them or not.
But my choice: Chojin Locke the Superman
Who do you think is the most powerful anime character? Is it the DBZ characters? Or Akira? Or someone else? I'm curious to know...

I would probley say the cast of Tenchi Muyo and Ah My Goddess since they have characters that are littlerally gods or godlike.
DBZ characters but only because their power is so far fetched that there really isn't any other characters who can compete... Certainly not with Goku. Goku defeated numerous fighters who were stronger than all the "gods" combined.

Spoiler:
The "gods" in the DBZ are'nt really gods at all but just really strong fighters. If Goku were to fight someone like Washu (who used to be a goddess but still reallt poweful) and Belldandy (who is a goddess) he'd get his arse handed too him. And by a woman no less.![]()
Saint Seiya characters are much stronger than DBZ characters.
But the prize would go to either Guu-sama, Lain, or Milfeulle from Galaxy Angel.
Guu has the power to do whatever she wants. Anything.
She has multiple stomachs, each of which are alternate dimensions.
She could walk up to Guts from Berserk and tell him to dance in a fluffy pink tutu, and he'd do it.
Lain can erase anyone from existance. Lain can also do whatever the hell she feels like.
Milfeulle has good luck. Good being an extreme understatement.
A meteor has crashed on the planet to avoid her losing her chips in roulette. Her luck has gone so far as to teleport her away from danger for no apparent cause.
An entire galaxy would sacrifice itself to prevent harm from coming to her.

that's true, but have they ever really explained what Guu is capable of, or where she came form at all? that uncertainty leads me to doubtOriginally Posted by Go-chin

Luffy from One Piece has to be up there. Probably Hawkeyes Mihawk too, being a schichibukai (sp?) and easily the most powerful swordsman in the world.
I would suggest that it's not the medium, but the quality of perception and expression, that determines the significance of art. But what would a cartoonist know? -Bill Watterson

Just think about it this way:
Whatever you think of, Guu can most likely do it.

I'd say Luffy is up there in terms of strength in his own universe, but certainly not overall.Originally Posted by GWOtaku
Mihawk, however, would probably fit with the most powerful.
I've often wondered how a fight between Hawkeyes Mihawk and Demon Eyes Kyo would turn out.

Unfortunately, I'd have to go with Itachi Uchiha, that Sharingan trick he did to Kakashi is just....wow.

In my opinion it have to be Aisha Clan Clan from Outlaw Star. Since they said on the show, the Ctral Ctral's are very strong, and they are imortal.
Pardon my lack of anime knowledge but who might this Hawkeyes Mihawk chap be[/English accent]. Seems like some kind of Indian name or something. Samurai Deeper Kyo, never came into my radar but it looks like something I would watch (just from reading the bio of the main character on the official English website).
Although I am a huge Gokou fan, I know he could get killed by various characters because they have powers that could kill people like people that can open up black holes (Tenchi with the "Wings of the Lighthawk (haven't seen Tenchi in a while, but I think that is what it is called,)).
Discussing this seems pointless to me but I am weird, so keep it up people, sorry for killing your fun.
Happy first post to me (even though I had an account here but it was deleted during the transition to this new (and cool-looking) design)!

Mihawk is from the anime/manga "One Piece".Originally Posted by ObeliskNoKami

And I highly suggest buying the manga of Samurai Deeper Kyo, seeing as the anime isn't really that good compared to it.

I think that guy Tetsuo from Akira is pretty powerful too. He's got one hell of a temper as well.
If we are going to bring up One Piece, then I think Ener deserves a mention. He can generate energy blasts that rival most DBZ characters, plus he has his psychic mantra.
From Naruto, I think just about any of the Hokages' as well as Jiraiya, Itachi, and Orochimaru are all up there. Any of the S class characters from Yu Yu Hakusho are also insanely strong. As one mentioned earlier Lain is pretty much omnipotent.
Now, to counter some other choices made by people on this thread. Guu should not really count; she's almost the anime version of Mr. Mxyzptlk, and really can't be taken seriously. While characters like Washu and Belldandy are also very strong in their own right, I really don't know if they are as powerful as some people are making them out to be since they don't possess the fighting skills and knowledge in applying their abilties for destuctive purposes that some of the other characters who have been listed do.
